Oooh! Excitement! This should shut us all up for a while, no? One shiny fat bone tossed to appease the great toxic unwashed!
Well, eventually, anyway.
"Closed beta program". For patches. For the select few, culled and anointed from the herd. Mag-freakin-nificant.
Wonder how many hotfixes all this candy-coating will need? Personally I'd save all the excitement and bootlicking until after this crate of wonders delivers. What it's supposed to do and what it will actually do are two entirely different things. If it actually makes this 'game' playable I shall be the first to sing its praises. Enthusiastically.
Still, seems we've heard similar promises before.
Sorry - was that negative? Cynical, perhaps. It's easy to confuse the two. Precedents being set and all that...
If they have fans doing it, thats twice as many people doing QA on a variety of different systems finding bugs much faster than a dedicated team can ever hope to do. Of course that means that unlike with a QA team the fixing goes slower as we can't fix them ourselves.
I understand that. It's terribly convenient. See, I thought they had people who had the real paying job of testing it all beforehand and releasing it as complete as possible, rather than half-arsing it and having to fix massive screw-ups for months afterward. I'm actually patient. And reasonable. Yes, yes, I am, you can believe it. I have no problem waiting a couple of extra months to play a game with minimal hassles than get a buggered one for Xmas that I have to wait until spring to actually play.
So, if that's intolerant and "douchey", well, hell, I have no excuses. I am the toxic 1% then and it's all my own fault.
This is new heights for BSN.
Criticizing BioWare for using the most efficient and effective practices for patch releases.
Is that surprising? usually BW can't take a sh*t without getting criticised or being accused of betrayal for it on this forum ![]()
Thanks Bioware. This is great news! Can you give an estimated time frame? I just started a new play through and I would like to adjust my Dalish elf's chin size and hair color. Also new toys!?! Yaaaaa!!!!!
And now we have the chance to actively participate in sorting some of the issues out instead of passively hoping for the best. It's a rare opportunity and a good thing they're doing.
Who knows how much feedback will be taken on board. Worst case scenario is that the lucky ones have a hotline to the developers
Good. I'm glad. Pity it took them so long. Here's to hoping the disappointment is over. Sincerely.

Oh darn it, whilst I struggle to deny that the logic of your point has merit,
I do think the squeaky wheels did not have to be quite as squeaky.
I think the feedback would have been equally received by BioWare had those (ultimately useful) threads
had the 'whine' turned down about 50%... ![]()
Yeah. let's just pretend we are dumb and accept being bought by their "mercyful" patch. Did you miss the point that is they actually talking? They didn't talk to the community. They are just trying to silence players, corrupt them to like this ****.
Conrary to the rest of the people of the earth, I guess the other 100%, I'm not corruptible, giving me what I want is not going to appease me and make me forget their bullshit. They could fill this game with every single one of my wishes and bow to me and I would still point their mistakes. They're the blight upon cRPG and none of the "features" (aka trash) of this patch addresses the lack of RPG in Inquisition. It will keep on being a beautiful interactive movie with a Bioware character, without builds, with jump, with MMO respawning and so on.
Only the corrupible will accept this excuse of patch, this imbecile pleaser.
And of course, the people deprived of brain who already like this game, even a little.
I love you.
Rejoice! There is hope yet!
If you look closely at the picture, it seems the one on the right, the hair changes to match the hat. She seems to have vibrant orange hair
Is that a guess, or do you know somehow? Because to me, it looks like hair. If it's not, they shouldn't have made it look so much like hair. Also, it's there even if you're bald, but I know they can do better, because the Hunter in MP looks great with that hat, and the screenshots of the Inquisitor pre-release all lacked the white "leather". If it is leather, why didn't it change colour before?
In this case, I'd take the clipping. If they just let us have our hats rest on our hair, clipping and all, I would be overjoyed, and I think most other people would too.
I agree completely. By the way, there is a trick to get your hair to appear. Have a character with a hat/cowl go on a mount, then dismount. Hair will now appear until the next load! It's great, though I need to find a better hat to make it look better ![]()
Edit: Someone beat me to it!
So we're bashing BioWare for having patch betas now?
Did something change when I was asleep? Are small QA teams able to be as effective at finding bugs as thousands of people all playing the game now?
Apparently they can't because it's indentured servitude for a complex software product that should have been flawless on five platforms and million potential PC configurations while also accounting for every consumer's tastes and preferences on release.
#Logic.
Mostly positive really. So we're bashing BioWare for having patch betas now?

Meh again this PC thing, they only want to patch for PC people and now beta testers are only PC players. No wonder nothing gets fixed on last gen.
PC patches don't have a certification process to go through so it makes sense to use us to test these things. They can just release them to us when they want.Meh again this PC thing, they only want to patch for PC people and now beta testers are only PC players. No wonder nothing gets fixed on last gen.
Nevermind read the news release! Great news ![]()

That's generally because PC is easier to do patching with on a wide scale like this, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of rapid changes to the patch like I suspect they'll do for the beta patches.
Releasing them all at the same time actually means you're making PC players wait.
Mostly positive really.
I would like to clarify that I am not unhappy with this new thing. If it lives up to its promise, it will be awesome. I will happily heap praise on all concerned with all the sincerity I can muster.
At the moment, it's really nothing at all. When it's an actual thing, different matter entirely. I'm just bummed and feeling a little burnt is all.

There has been 3 patches already (+1 hot fix patch) but none have tackled any major issues for PS3 and XBOX360. I'm starting to think that BW's plan is not even patch these versions of the game at all although they suffer from poorest portings. Instead all patches this far have introduced dozen fixes for PC players so really it seems clear who they are favoring and who they plan to ignore completely. I'm just so fed up with Bioware, only writing deparment at the moment has my respect anymore.
I hope this pays off and game breaking bugs that some people are having are found and squished
Absolutely. That's all we can ask. I'm just reserving my enthusiasm. For now.
Wait...does this mean we may be able to purchase some nice new armor..DOES THIS MEAN THAT WE MAY FINALLY BE ABLE TO WEAR HAWKE'S CHAMPION ARMOR? Please let it be so.
Also this is amazing news, great to see they're adding some new and great features to the game.

Criticizing BioWare for using the most efficient and effective practices for patch releases.
I agree. Being a beta tester for another game that uses a very similar closed beta system I KNOW it works, it helps and, it actually speeds the release. Let's just use this Black Emporium patch as an example.
Bioware gets the betas all signed up and the DND agreements all signed and in hand and, gets the content out to the testers. Okay it's the first one so, that will take a little time BUT, now it's all set up, betas are online and ready to go (and yes we are a tool for them, a very inexpensive, sometimes bluntly honest tool but, a tool) so we (betas) get to work testing the Black Emporium. That needs 1-4 weeks, depending on how many changes and new things are actually in there. Yes that means BE will be at least a week or two in testing before release. Meanwhile the devs are on to working on the next patch or DLC and can come back and make adjustments to BE in a couple of days after they get the feedback from the betas. BE gets sent back to betas with changes, all is good, so it's time for it to go live. (cheers) next day, they hand the next patch or DLC to the betas, the one they were working on while we tested BE. Voila instad of waiting 3-4 months for that patch/dlc, you wait 4-8 weeks is all, and a month or so after that, the next one can be released, all because betas test while devs build new stuff and create much needed patches.
Getting it going is a bit of a time consumer but, once the beta program is rolling, it actually speeds up releases and, once running smoothy, new content every 30 to 60 days is not unreasonable at all, weekly patches if needed, easily managed. Betas do the tedious work of finding tiny glitches that would not be noticed in a speed run of the contend, we can take time to explore, dig for exploits, try every single detail for the new stuff in as many different ways as we can think of, even try to see if there is a place where we can glitch off the map, something we can do to make it crash the game or corrupt a save. All things that, you just know someone will find eventually if it's missed in testing. We do all of that and let the Devs know what needs attention while they are already working on the next thing we will need to test. Once we all get used to working together, and the time frame we have to work within, its works amazingly well and, patches and new content end up rolling out is short order, and it's right, it works, player like it and, want more - win- win.
