Just something I was curious about running through the triliogy again (and as a Soldier for the first time since my initial playthrough). This mostly pertains to the Cain. So, two questions:

Does Adrenaline Rush affect Heavy Weapon damage?

If so, when is the damage bonus applied for the Cain? Do you activate AR right before the slug leaves the chamber, or do you activate AR right before the slug hits a target/detonates?

I was running with the Cain during the second Pretorian fight, and although I thought my timing was perfect (hitting AR just as the slug was leaving the chamber) the damage seemed to be exactly the same as it was when I've done the fight with a Vanguard. I certainly could have messed up the timing, but just a thought I had, and I was hoping someone more familiar with the mechanics could answer the question.

Edit: I'm not sure if it matters, but both runs were Insanity, the damage seems to knock Pretorian's Barrier off from full, and knock their armor down to around the 2/5 mark.

No idea. If I have a Soldier save at a decent point, I may try it out to see.

Just me presenting an idea beforehand:

Cloak provides a damage bonus, but will break after firing a weapon. However, if you start charging the Geth Plasma Shotgun (GPS) before cloaking, Cloak will not break after firing the charged shot, probably because you pressed the trigger before cloaking. Theoretically, this means the game does not count the GPS as having fired while cloaked since you the games considers you having "fired" before cloak. Not sure if the GPS gets the cloak damage bonus in that scenario or not.

Adrenaline Rush may work the same way, in that it may give you the damage bonus only if you begin to fire after activating A-Rush, but not if you start to fire then activate A-Rush.

But this really should be tested. If I have a decent save, I will try it out.

I tried watching an old Soldier vid of mine firing the Grenade Launcher under Adrenaline Rush to see if it got a damage bonus. I think it did, but it was hard to say since I only the last one or two shots were not under Adrenaline Rush.

But for comparison, here is what I have recorded:

Level 7 Soldier with Adrenaline Rush versus (sabotaged) gunship on Recruit Archangel mission: 5 shots, 3 under Adrenline Rush. No points in passive, but I think have some weapon damage from armor

Level 7 Adept versus (sabotaged) gunship on Recruit Archangel mission: 7 shots. I do not think I have any weapon damage bonus from armor

I would indeed be surprised if ARush added damage to heavy weapons.

Thanks for the replies, and if you have a save file, and get the chance, finding a definitive answer would be awesome. It's not an urgent matter or anything, just something I was curious about due to replaying a class I usually don't pick.

Okay, I finished testing it.

Against an YMIR mech, level 30.

No Adrenaline Rush:
Down to about half armor

Adrenaline Rush at end:
Down to about half armor

Adrenaline Rush at beginning:
Down to about half armor

So no difference.

I quickly tested Grenade Launcher against the same mech. Fired about four shots under Adrenaline Rush, then reloaded and fired four shots without Adrenaline Rush. Looked to be about the same damage. (I might have actually dealt slightly more damage without Adrenaline Rush for some reason. )

I find this very interesting. If you remember, I commented on one of my videos that in my experience a Cain shot would not take down a YMIR, and that I was surprised that it did during the Jack recruitment mission. I wondered if there was some "back blast" effect from hitting the wall behind the YMIR. I was level 13 at the time. I am not sure how much difference that makes. But is a data point in considering how much enemies level up at each level, or whether there really is some kind of "back blast" effect.

If heavy weapons don't get damage scaling, then they will do different damage percentages based on Shep's level.  I doubt they are scaled, but I don't tend to use HW's much (except for Eclipse Smuggling :)).

I'm also not one to use HWs, save when running as an Adept, or Engineer or something. Just something I was curious about because I've never actually thought about it until this run. I'm grateful for the responses though, and that Ceaser took the time to test it out, thanks.

Imagine if AR gave Cain a damage boost. Actually I hoped it did because I tested it against the thresher maw, and it did the same damage with or without AR.

I did that when facing the terminator with a cain. If there was a difference, I didn't see it

Neither do I I tend to use them against the Scion's, Praetorians(Collector things that shoot from their eyes and gunships but that's about it.

I use the starting grenade launcher against husks and Reaper core/Human Reaper. That's about it :)

for future reference ( "somebody getting this page  googling "adrenaline rush - heavy weapons")

I've only tested the collector particle beam so far:

"-collector particle beam heavy weapon IS affected by additive damage bonuses (passives, gear, Miranda squad bonus, adrenaline rush, rangebonuspenalty, headshot .. ) "

the test data numbers are linked in the first post of my ME2 weapon damage formula thread linked in my signature (should be visible on this post)

will edit this post if I test more heavy weapons

Edit :

NO influence from additive weapon damage bonuses ( this makes them a GREAT source for damage scaling measurement in testing ) :

M-100 Grenade Launcher

M-622 Avalanche

ML-77 Missile Launcher
