Dwarf noble or city elf?

Hey guys,

after Inquisition, I recently went to back to Origins and made another playthrough with a human noble. Now, I want to try another race and have some questions:

I'm not sure whether I should play a city elf or dwarf noble (both male). I wonder which race does affect the story or dialogues most and gets the most "bonus" dialogue? It also bothers me that there seems no way to create a decent looking dwarf and with a beard, they all look quite similar.

Well, I hope you can help me! :)

What do you enjoy most about the game?

The city elf origin is pretty short. It comes well equipped with excellent reasons to dislike humans in general and Loghaon and Howe in particular. It is well integrated into the game. Soris is a good character and I am especially fond of Shianni. The origin does play a little bit better from the feminine perspective.

The dwarf noble origin is a mini epic. As a prince you can go further than a Cousland and not only have an off screen mini orgy but also father a child. The dwarf noble also has the best chance at having the most cash in game as a certain merchajt will always pay you double for your loot. While you can certainly choose either contender for the throne, the origin will provide you with a built in preference.

Mousestalker's post is pretty much what I would state, though I always suggest Dwarf Noble to people.

I'm biased though, being a fan of Dwarves. But Dwarves don't get nearly enough love.

One further suggestion is to actually try all of the Origins, at least through to Ostagar. They might surprise you. If you do not like a particular origin, you can always stop and try another one.

Depends if you enjoy being Royalty and getting some money in the origin for Dwarf Noble.  I  enjoy both of those.  When I first did the Dwarf Noble I couldn't figure out the puzzle in the thaig even though it's easy.

My personal vote?  Do both.  (but then, I have a personal goal of one playthrough per Origin per gender, at a minimum.)

But if you only want to do one, then I'd go for city elf.  You have to wait until almost the Landsmeet for the origin to be relevant, but it's worth it for the view you get into how shabbily humans treat elves.

Neither, they both get an equal amount. It just depends on which one you like being acknowledged as more.

Personally, I think they're both worth checking out because dwarves and elves are both awesome, and I think it's great experiencing the world, the story, and the reactions from others characters from their points of view.

Thank you guys! I already played both origins and both were well-made. I guess I'll stick to the elf first. Although I really like Dwarfes in fantasy games, I don't really like to play one myself, as I think they're quite unaesthetic.  :D

Personally Female city elf = better than the male version.

However, Dwarf Noble is epic imo.

dwarf noble male imo is the better choice, not to mention you have the most badass surname out of all the origin choices, dwarf noble feels epic on return to orzammar, the city elf one felt pointless to me, I just felt like I was there for no reason

Dwarf Noble is great, but the romances are awkward.

It comes down to whether you want to feel like a native or an outsider. I think as far as main Ferelden background goes, City Elf touches on as much as Cousland does.. but in a different way. They walk in the same circles, just on different sides of the fence. A lot of people wanted a lowly human commoner origin, but to me, the City Elf is the best story you can get like that.

Dwarves are cooler as outsiders..the non Ferelden saving everyone's asses... but then, so are mages and Dalish. They're all cool, so to me I played all as different classes.

Both are pretty cool, though I think the story supports elves more.

But dwarf can still be fun in its own way, like StreetMagic explained.

I think the dwarven noble has a lot of quality content upon returning to Orzammar.

If you played as a male, you have the chance to have a son with Mardy, which can swing how you want to approach Orzammar's situation because your son is now casteless since you were exiled and Mardy is asking to get your son reinstated with the Aeducans.

You also are the only origin that won't get served drinks at Tapsters because the bartender actually liked Trian.

It's kind of amusing talking to the Shaper who is adamantly refusing to acknowledge you ever existed because you were erased from the memories, only to later have to set you in as a Paragon. ^_^

Dwarven casteless also has some quality content. For example, Orta and getting her family records, you can meet her in the casteless origin and she is downright cruel to you.

Merely my preference of course as a dwarf lover, but I also enjoyed the city elf origin.

Actually you can't. it's two different people.

Personal opinion, but for a male Warden, I give the nod towards the Dwarven Noble; the interaction with other NPC's is oustanding throughout the game, but especially in Orzammar.

The City Elf is better experienced as a female character; allows for a far more visceral storyline, and for a better long term goal post-origin, IMO. This story reminds me of the REH tale that inspired Red Sonja; the stories, and not that thing called a movie....
