Armor isn't really the reason, it's how tidy it looks. Everything looks very organized and clean. Perhaps some aspects that are more animal might also help (feathers, tails, spots, etc).
Don't stress over it too much though, it's fine as it is.

A tip since I saw someone point out it might look too tidy and clean for a desire demon feel: Whenever I want to make things look more dirty I just slap one of this guy's textures as an overlay over everything.
A little warning tho; they're addicting to slap on everything xD
