I just love how armies are build, their nubers and strategies. Well, i just love it overall, specially in fictional verses.

Whomever in almost every franchise i saw, like Game of Thrones they give us an idea of how big the armies in their verses are. For example, King's Landing total numbers in the thousands whilleTargeryan is like 2000 i believe.

But how big is the Inquisition influence and manpower in numbers? I really wonder. They have the aid of The qunari, Orlais and from the Chantry. Is the Inquisition the biggest army Thedas have ever seen?

Their forces are exactly as numerous as the plot requires them to be.

Don't know about specific numbers, but there is a decent contingent always camped out below Skyhold that you can see from the battlements.

I doubt it's more than a few thousand. We need the help of the Orlesian army during the battle in the Arbor Wilds, after all.

Our strength is said to Rival Kingdoms by the end of Dragon Age.  I'd actually think around 10-18K would be the size of the military.

Our strength lies in our allies. We hold little to no actual territory, and our finances mostly come from donations. I doubt our army is that big.

Actually after the battle with Corypheus if you check "the view of  the troops" it will say:

A force, yes. 10-18k is pushing it, though.

Well if we take into account army size during medieval times, it's is said that emperor Xerxes army had around 100.000 men in it. If I remember my history classes correctly I believe Chinese and Mongolian armies were even larger, reaching numbers of 190.000 ~200.000 people (Not counting horses and siege weapons)

Medieval European armies were usually very small. There are a few exceptions, like the Crusades and the Hundreds Years War.

And often the troop numbers found in medieval accounts are thought to be exaggerated.

I think it's safe to say that the power of the Inquisition comes  from the quality of their troops over quantity.

I estimate a force numbering around 6-8 thousand of highly-trained forces that is not enough to battle or invade nations but more than enough to tip the balance of power if needed.

We got to see our entire army in full force at the Arbor wilds. Yes, those 12 brave soldiers strike fear into the hearts of nations with their numbers.

In other words...what army?

Indeed only very few states in the middle ages could raise large armies back, the Byzathine Empire at least in the early to high middle ages, the Carolingian empire and the Holy Roman Empire before its decline, the Caliphate and the Mongol horde were pretty much the only states capable of putting truly massive armies into the field during the middle ages.

^European armies were usually made up with troops from minor lords. Often times they do not show up due to logistical or political reason.

For DA:I, I am not sure how much there is. I don't ever remember them talking about troop strength (not even an estimate). It's even worse when the game does a poor job at making you feel like you are in the helm for a big army. The battle of Ostargar alone probably had more soldiers in it than the whole Inquisition on screen.

I think a lot of that was due to the game using a more graphic intensive engine coupled with inquisition being limited with it being on old generation consoles as well as new gen and PC.  They likely could done more if they didn't have to deal with the limitations of the previous generation systems.

They are as big as the plot demands because Bioware cares little for something called military logistics.
