For those who play MMO's, like World of Warcraft, Aion, Wildstar, Star Wars the Old Republic, EverQuest, and so on, this is where we can discuss what we enjoy playing, why we enjoy it. We can discuss game mechanics we love vs ones we hate, find people to partner up with playing the same game as you, discuss the story, and generally be fans of the online gaming community.

Nice. That was my first MMO. Kind of got out of it a few months after the Liche King came out. I started getting into Aion at that time. The whole aspect of having wings and flying adding a new dynamic to pvp combat was something that really appealed to me.

WoW was my first until my old PC couldn't handle it anymore, so I switched to FF14 ARR on ps3(on PS4 now). I suppose I might go back to WoW if they ever decide to improve combat animations.

I've probably tried them all. I had a crap PC back in the day when Everquest was about so couldn't play it, so I ended up on Runescape for a long time.
Eventually moved onto The Matrix Online, had fun there, watched it die. ![]()
Off to City of Heroes, had fun there, watched it die.
Guild Wars I still have and still play occasionally.
EQ2 is far too slow for my liking thesedays, but the crafting was fun.
FF14 is great but you really need a friendly guild if you're a fan of the franchise as unfortunately, dude-bro shootah rush-nubs have taken over the game and tend to force you to skip storyline cutscenes and rage-kick you for trying to experience the game as it was meant to be. =/
WoW I never got into, just seemed boring to me.
Granadia Fantasia was a unique concept but the grind just sucks.
I forget the rest I used to play...

World of Warcraft was a pretty cool game before they made the decision to dumb it down to the point where 4 year olds can raid. Now it's just boring.

My favourite discussion about MMOs? Hmm... I've have to think about it...

WoW is, or rather was, my favorite. It has good polish, great dungeons and raids, an immersive soundtrack, good lore (mainly from its RTS days), and a responsive combat system. It was also pretty easy to hook up with friends for a good match.
I pretty much got burned out on the MMO scene in general and hated the direction of the story and lore Blizzard has taken since Cataclysm (MoP and WoD have their moments) but I still have some good memories.

Huh. You people make it sound like heroic raids don't exist.

The female smuggler is awesome. Especially when she's being sarcastic/witty.

I'd have to go with World of Warcraft. Specifically the Vanilla to WotLK eras.
SWtoR was nice for the leveling and class story lines, but when I played it the end game felt really lacking(no idea how it is these days).

Runescape many years back. No MMO or online game save for Halo 2 kept me going for so long. It wasn't just the massive world with all the quests and pvp/pve content it was the little things that gave it charm such as mass groups of people selling items by Varrock bank or in Falador park. You had to search for what you wanted and sometimes you would finally find that guy selling mystic robes only to have somebody else trade him and buy it first. Or the idea of nature rune running, waiting in life for your turn to get the goodies. All things like that made it perfect.

I really adore Brian Bloom as the male Trooper. With half my Trooper's lines being incredibly sarcastic, it just adds to it.

No. All the runs I have done people allowed you to watch the cutscenes. The only time it gets annoying is if it is a daily dungeon, and you have already watched it a million times before. It is also not that grindy. Just the basic MMO mechanics.

played most in last 15 year, one that always stands out is original Star Wars Galaxies, before all the combat updates etc

Where did you hear that? Arguably both FFXI and FFXIV ARR adhere more closely to the tenets and spirit of early FF than the likes of XIII, etc.

I heard it from forums. I will give it a go. MMOs have amazing character creators.

Psh you can hear anything on forums, I enjoyed ARR quite a bit and it's got a free trial for 2 weeks. Combat was slightly slower and there are fewer abilities but everything else was pretty cool.
Actually as to the question I played a lot of MMOs, including Everquest, DAoC (soft spot), and then ultimately Vanilla WoW which really was something for a long time, then TBC hit and I lost interest... felt like they narrowed down the world, and I didn't like the aesthetic as much.. space aliens and all that weirdness.
I started just playing more console games but I still play a good amount of each WoW expansion in hopes they continue original WC3 or Vanilla WoW storylines, although they usually have all kinds of other bells and whistles that keep me entertained.
The recent spate has me kind of exhausted with the MMO genre though, Wildstar, TESO, etc seem to just be going through the motions and are mostly glorified MOBA/Raiding/hardcore type things. I feel like Skyrim has the same game concept but was more fantasy, human focused in ways I could get behind, and kind of stole a lot of MMO thunder really.

The ones I have played (that I remember) are Dofus, Wakfu, a bit of WoW, and SWTOR.
I tried the ESO beta three times, but it didn't feel like a game I would purchase after that.
