I understand there is an opportunity for Alistair and Morigan to have a conversation. I am just about to find Alistair the Warden, but haven't done the Ball yet. What is the proper timing in order to get Morigan and Alistair dialogue.

Alistair hangs around in Skyhold during his quest so you can do the Ball between going to Crestwood and the second part of the quest.  The dialouge should trigger the first time you go to Skyhold with them both there but it doesn't always (just keep leaving and going back into Skyhold.  Hopefully should work).  However, if you've imported a romanced Alistair then the dialouge seems to be bugged and rarely triggers.
