The weapons are too big and ugly and plastic-y - especially the swords-  and the armor is alright but lacks variety.

I think the armour tends to be too busy. There often just seems to be so many things going on.

I'd rather have more armour that is just some armour without all these sashes and jackets and belts and butt flap things.

Though my main problem with the armour isn't really the designs, but the way the crafting and loot system makes me feel like I'm stuck wearing small variations on the same design.

For the most part  think it's ugly with terrible texture, pattern, color and no form and it's out of context too.

In comparison to other types/looks i find the sash and tail one to have the most structure and form and is the only one I use, feels pretty restrictive.

I hate the coat armours with a passion. I only play elves and dwarves because the Dalish and Legion kits are the only good looking armours in the game.

The warden armour is good too, but it feels wrong wearing it for some reason...

I would give a leg for some good old splintmail.

I really don't like that there are essentially two designs that are slightly upgraded throughout the whole game (excluding the warden schematic, armor you get after completing the Ball and race specific armors).

They clearly took to heart the complaint of mage robes dominating the last two games, but it would have been nice to have at least one robe schematic to play around with.

And I agree, some of the companions have better armor aesthetics. I especially love Vivienne's battle mage armor, Sera's prowler and Dorian's, well ... everything.

I'm ambivalent about the iconic dragon helmet. I like it as a helmet, but I don't like it having been created and shoved down the artists' throats by the marketing team.

I like the armors but I wish there was more to them.

Example the mage light armor schematics. Maybe its only me, but I wish my mages had more robe like armors. Not some leather trench coat looking cowboy outfit. I wouldn't mind them showing a bit more skin too on the females. Not skimpy but you know, something. Heck if mistress Vivienne can walk around in that outfit and slay dragons why can't I?

Then there are the rogues. Yeah I like the armors on the rogues. But they only seem to suit an archer rogue. They seem to have that theme. Explain to me how a long coat works for an up close dagger rogue? They would rather have something with a lot less material hanging from the waist I bet.

I wish my rogue outfits looked more like Sera's outfits.

The armor and weapon designs I like are few and far between. The biggest detractor for me is the 20 heavy armor designs that are a variation on a freaking scale mail shirt and duster.

Let me just say this: I absolutely love how deep the crafting system can be in this game. I have made it a sort of mini-game where I try to collect all the schematics in the game. Also, I practically begged Bioware to make components for armor and to see it actually it in the game restores my faith in Bioware. But there are a few gripes with the system that I want Bioware to fix in the future.

  • Racial restricted armor is just stupid. I don't understand why a Qunari Inquisitor can't wear armor because it's meant for an elf or dwarf. I'm making the armor myself, so why can't I just make it fit me? That's like saying a tailor can't make a suit because the customer is too tall. Class restrictions I can understand, but race?
  • The armor quanity is very low. It's rather disappointing to see how little armor there is compared to weapons.
  • Why! Can't! I! Choose! COLORS?! I hated how in ME3's customization I can't pick the colors separately and I hate it that it's here too! Why is this so difficult to do Bioware?! I want to be able to make a poweful set of armor and be free to pick any color I wish.
  • Speaking of colors, I would like some more color choices in the game. The dragon related color was nice, but I would like gold and nacre to complete my "ultimate weapon" so to speak.
  • I would love it if I can make my own vitaar like I can with helmets. I'm sure the reason I can't was because Bioware didn't have time, but hopefully this will corrected in the future.

LOVE IT. Crafting was fun! Only armor I hated was the Enchanter Mail.   That schematic was hideous.

I really wish Bioware would get away from their "must enforce an iconic look on the player and companions" kick.  Most of the armors look like a trench coat when equipped on my Inquisitor but something completely different (and often more interesting) when equipped on Iron Bull or Vivienne.  Wearing a trench coat might look cool sometimes, but it gets really old, really quickly.  Some of the armor and weapons look really good, but too many of them get way to outlandish.  I would like them to stick more closely to common, functional weapon designs and add some ornamentation to the hilts instead of the more bizarre designs they seem so fond of.

They're introducing tints with Patch 5. Maybe even new schematics to be found in the Black Emporium.

All of that is secondary, it's the godawful hair-dos that needs to be fixed.

not a fan, BioWare for me has a fetish for flaps, they just cant stop themselves they need to continually add stuff to armor that isnt necessary.

Tbh the only game of BioWare's where i have found armor i like the look of is in Tor, other than that never been a fan of there "artistic" design, if thats the right word

I haven't seen most of the designs but I hate the elven mage designs. I don't know if it looks different on male elf mages, like I like most of Solas's, but the female elf mage looks like some kind of weird adventurer. Even the keeper robe doesn't look like even a robe on her. Also I wish it would be easier to get some of the non completely plain looking tier 3 fabrics because all white or all grey gets boring pretty quick.

I also wish the heavy armors looked more streamlined. I like the way most of them look on Cassandra but like others have said they're too busy most of the time.

I personally like the rogue armors the best, I kind of wish that if you were a warrior you could access heavy through light armor.

For my mage though, I hated how something would look totally fabulous on Vivienne and like a burlap sack on my Inquisitor. It would be cool if you could choose to access other character's styles. Maybe only if you had high enough approval with that companion? Vivienne does offer to take you to Val Royeaux right after you get to skyhold and agree that fashion in important.

Does anyone else hate how in almost every armor you can see the skyhold pjs?

Overall though I really did like the whole crafting system and am really excited about the tinting coming in a later patch.

Yeah the awful trench coat look. It's like that for my elf mage and my quanari rogue. It just looks weird.

I just hated the complete lack of variety--I played as a rouge and almost every medium armor set I put on my Inquisitor looked the same. Origins and even DA2 had a lot more variety.

I like the kind of casual approach they adopted, but I agree that there should be more variety an less tackiness. As a mage, I like that my character was not condemned to use only robes, for a change. But on the other hand, I also miss the robes.

100% agree.

The armor designs are too complex, In the end it is hard to remember one in particular and they do not feel customable at all.

Another thing that I did not like is that the same armor piece is totally different if you put it on another character. That totally breaks the concept of the armor piece being a unique consistent item that has its own identity.

For a next dragon age game, I would prefer to see the body armor more fragmented; hands, shoulders, helm, boots, legs, chest, Just like traditional RPG.

For the most part I liked the designs but by the end of your time in Haven you've pretty much seen all the variety you're going to get and the Inquisition armour that imo should be an option throughout the game is a T1 with not so great stats.

The companions get the coolest looking armors because they are Bioware's characters. Our characters, well, don't get to look as cool most of the time. I don't mind the Mage and Rogue armors but I am finally playing a warrior on my 5th playthrough (Qunari at that) and I am really not liking the heavy armors for him. I want something awesome looking like Iron Bull's armor.

Bioware are kind of like little kids with THEIR characters (your companions) and don't want anyone being as cool as them.

TIER 3 Mage and Rogue armors look very similar but they seem like variants on the champion armor and I do like those ones quite a bit. Haven't seen Tier 3 Warrior armor yet ...

I liked wearing a dragonling leather mage longcoat, with metal arms and metal boots. Paired with an inquisitor's hat made my KE look pretty badass :)

This includes Medium and Light armor. Personally, I found that the companions have better looking armors than the Inquisitor. My personal favourites being Iron Bull who could potentially look like a literal Iron Bull by having him wear his Dread helmet and some badass high tier heavy armor, and Cole who could look like a cool Chinese assassin with his Kung Lao-like hat along with Dorian who has the best looking mage gear.

The Inquisitor's armor sets for all classes look very dull. Of course, that may be due to the severe lack of variety in design for the Inquisitor's armor sets. The faction armors do look unique but unless your playing as a human, you'll most likely not be able to wear most of them.

Weapon designs are a disappointment for me due to how each weapon looking cartoonishly big and how their a bit too shiny. I had hoped that most of the weapons were closer to real life medieval weapons, at least in terms of proportions.

What does everyone else think?

I like the coats for mages; that's because I hate robes. However, the armour design is really uninspiring for warriors. I don't like we don't have any true armor. The default rogue boots and gloves are IMO better than the crafted boots and gloves we get, but that's all necessary for stat boosting. We have too little variety overall, sadly.
