Tbh, I couldn't care less about being able to change your face with the upcoming patch. They need to at least have a summonable Mabari.

I get it if they don't want to make it a spell as they did in 2 (with only 8 spells on consoles and the inability to cast more) but even something like a ring that summons one (maybe have a cooldown of 60 seconds in case it gets killed). That would make me happy.

A war table mission after you help the ruler(s) of Ferelden would be a good way to obtain it. Heck, the dog we get could even be a descendant of the Mabari owned by the HoF :) How awesome would that be?

EDIT:

Yes to a mabari  -- or any other kind of pet, from a wolf, to a wild cat, to a bronto (brontos are cute and would made awesome tanks!).

My Cousland's dog was named Ser Riley; my Dwarven Noble's, Stonecutter; and my Hawke's, Dane, after the legendary Alamarri warrior.

This is an excellent point. Expanding on my original idea, they could have a different war table quest for each option. Possibly making them exclusive to one another to add impact to your choice. After all, having a dog, a wolf, a wild cat, AND a bronto would be cool, but it would make the pet you chose less special

I too miss my doggie...I called him Rexx.

Just another feature taken out of DAI to simpify and save even more time.

I hope the dog comes with this Black Emporium DLC just like in DA2. I really miss that mutt  :( I'd like to believe that dog was one of kids of my warden's dog since he fathered several litters of puppies during this time and returned to his master's side shortly after.

He would have to be more than just summonable, though. He would need a character, just like in Origins. ;)

They already said that there will be no downloadable companions, back last April I believe

Yes definitely, I really miss having a summonable mabari or even just as a pet in Skyhold.

Mabari are primarilly a Ferelden thing.  We can't really expect to have one with every single game.

But they make great allies, i mean they say Dogs are Man's best friend.

But they are in the game, we have to fight bandits who have them …

Agreed, i loved the interaction between your dog and the companions from both games, my favorite was one with Sten, Sandel and the Dog.

Ha! My Hawkes, Amells and Couslands consistently named theirs "Dane" for the exact same reason!

My Mahariel's was called Dirthamen, Tabris' and Surana's, Garahel, and my Aeducan's was Paragon

Also see my edit of the original post :)

I'd take it just as a "camp pet" or whatever. Can't even take it with you but it lives at Haven/Skyhold and has a few interactions. :)

I really miss having my dog! I adore having my Mabari with me - even if I can't have him as a player character like Origins, just a summoning like DA2 would satisfy me... well that and being able to name him (and my mounts!) <3

Yeah, sounds good enough. Maybe a War Table operation in which Inquisition soldiers take down a black-market ring selling exotic animals.

Cullen recommends that you adopt a strong, loyal, Ferelden mabari.

Leliana suggests an elegant blackbird that can spy for you and deliver messages.

And Josephine suggests a cute and mischievous fennec (just ... take a moment to Google the word "fennec". You won't regret it.)

Indeed - if bandits (who are the very definition of shady and bad character - and Mabari are supposedly good judges of character (they only bond to people who are of good character...at least that was what I remember from DA:O) can have them, we should be able to have them, too

Hell, I would love to have more pets - and it would make for great cutscenes if you could sick your mabari on someone who displeased you (either with real harm intended, if you are an ******* or just to frighten them!) :)

greetings LAX

ps: Still, there's more important things to fix IMHO (like really giving our overgrown castle some utility...come on that castle is BIG and you can't really do **** with it...I'd love to have things like a real greenhouse for my plants (not just a few pots -.-), a real dungeon you can use (the one we have got is useless) etc. (Might need to make my own topic about that because it's a missed opportunity IMHO...a little tower in the middle of nowhere would have been sufficient for us, if we can't use what we have anyway -.-)
