I'm trying to change Branwen's NPC portrait to that of Lagertha the Shield Maiden from the Vikings series on History Channel.

My fellow BG1 No-load friend Grond0 gave me a great site that provides the detail on how to do it. http://portraits.cho...ait_change.html

So, I've done that & sized my photos 38x60 & 110x170. I've placed them w/the appropriate naming convention as indicated in the link above in both my Override & Portraits folders. Even started a new game & still I'm still getting the original Medium & Small portraits.

Do I need to take one or more original files in the Override folder out?

If so, which one? In the Override folder there the following files that appear to be associated w/Branwen:

_BRANWD.DCS, _BRANWE.dcs, _BRANWE (CRE file), _BRANWE.DLG, _BRANWE5 (CRE File), _BRANWJ.DLD &  _BRANWP.DLD.

In the portrait folder they're sized the same & given appropriate length names, i.e., 6 characters or <.

The only oddity I see is the vast majority of bmp. images in the Override folder are 4kb.  Even though my images are the same size as I use for my PC, they're 56kb & 7 kb respectively.  Maybe I need to reduce them to 4kb but how if I leave them the appropriate 38x60 & 110x170.

Any help is greatly appreciated. While I know my pals from the No-Reload Challenges are all over the forum, I thought I might have better luck opening my question to the wider forum.

Thanks all, CKT

The file sizes are right.  I suspect the problem is to do with the way the BG1 and BG2 files interact.  I can't remember whether you use BGT or Tutu, but in my BGT installation I experimented a bit to make Imoen get in touch with her masculine (and dwarvish) side.

Based on that I suggest you try renaming your bmp portraits in your override folder BRANWEM and BRANWES

I presume that you are using SK to change Branwen's Portrait? If not, do so. That is the easiest way to do it.

I think CKT originally looked at SK before asking for instructions to do it the other way.  If SK is to be used it's easiest to do that by having the NPC in your party.  When you open up a saved game in SK then use the slider to move to that NPC and then click on change portrait.

Incidentally I checked on Shadowkeeper that the names I gave for Branwen's portraits above are the correct ones.

For portraits you need 24 bit bitmaps. Most likely you've made 32 bit bitmaps and that's why the game refuses to use them.
