Ok, color me surprised.  Twice!

First because I didn't even realize that there was an option to get in contact with the Hero of Ferelden until my second playthrough.  (That was my mistake for not talking enough with Morri.)

But second surprise came when, after launching that mission, and deciding that, "No, I'm not going to mess with my system clock to cheat my way through the time." all I got for my trouble was a stupid "Enhanced Belt of Healing" that wasn't even as good as what half my team already has, and only just as good as the rest.

Talk about disappointed!  :o  :(

Was better than what I got from Sebastion:

- Sent Liliana to contact Sebastion to gain "Aid"

- Mission will be completed in 13 Hours

- Mission completed in 13 hours

- Sebastion's letter: "I am truly sorry but I cannot help you, here's 3 gold coins".

YOUR THE BLOODY PRINCE OF STARKHAVEN AND ALL YOU CAN BLOODY GIVE ME IS SOME COIN!?      :police:

I hate the timers that run in real life, IMO they have no place in a game such as this.

Microtransaction games with time-walls, fine - but a single-player game with a timer that runs in real life while I've shut off my computer? No. Freaking. Way.

I vastly prefer them to timers that run in game time. That would be a true nightmare. If you play too quickly, you end up having to leave the game running while twiddling your thumbs with no way to speed it up. The real world timers let you avoid that by doing the long missions in the downtime that non-obsessive people have from the game, and you can always adjust the stystem clock in a pinch. Circumventable timer > non-circumventable timer. And as long as the times are set appropriately to mesh with the amount of time it usually takes people to play a game, it should be barely noticeable, which was the case for me.

The beginning of the HoF's letter always makes me laugh. "No, I don't have information on this Corypheus because the Wardens didn't tell me anything when I joined and then they all ****ing died."

I have to say that this disappointed me as well.  I think they should have left this War Table mission out of the game entirely.  It's obviously there for nostalgic reasons but it feels misplaced, takes Leliana an entire day to complete basically, and you get jack all for the effort.  It's a token mention that I would have been find not having in the game at all.  The only way I would have accepted the HOF showing up in my game was if they were the warden instead of Stroud.  Other than that, it's, in my opinion, a worthless tribute mention.

Why are you surprised? 99% of loot/treasure/rewards is trash.

Sometimes I wish that "valuables" was the category where everything was put by default. It would spare me so much time..

Wartable missions are the primary reason why you theoretically can have playthroughs in the ecxess of 100 hours, ... no wonder when you have wartable missions with a 16+ hours timer.

I'm sure one of the reasons for those timers is to represent the difficulty or effort of any such mission, but what it comes down to is it being a cheap inflation of gametime.

Before I stopped playing out of boredom (having to grind 30 points to be invited to the ball kinda killed my interest in the game) I simply arranged my wartable schedule around my playtime schedule. I always ended my sessions going to the wartable, selecting the long missions, and saving just out the door. Coming back I just had to load the wartable and select new missions before venturing forth.

Yeah, all these war table rewards are a bit naff. Alexius gives a cooldown amulet. Surely we could have had more interesting stuff?

Some of the best schematics in the game can only be acquired by war table missions. And you can fail to acquire them. (Masterwork Archon Staff, Masterwork Sentinel Shield, among others)

Really? I thought the fact that they're on a quest to cure the Calling is kind of big news.

That's odd. My Warden sent me ten letters in return:

  • One was making fun of Griffons
  • One urged me to settle for a belt but wasn't worded eloquently enough for me to be convinced
  • Seven were circumstancially diplomatic and sort of similarly phrased; evoking pretty much the same reaction
  • One insulted my grandmother and threatened me with violence out of nowhere

I shall work on creating the t-shirts then!

I need this so very much in my life.

Mentioning some people as obsessive is uncalled for. Not everyone lives under the same circumstances, and not everyone have work hours that make room for whatever "average" downtime you might have.

The way the timer works in Skyrim is much better. Take the wedding ceremony: You have to wait 24 hours of in-game time. Now you can either 1) go explore and do quests to have time pass slowly, or 2) choose to rest in-game and those 24 hours are gone in a matter of seconds.

The timers in Dragon Age should have been designed as in Skyrim (or Baldur's Gate for that matter), not as Dungeon Keeper mobile or a Tamagotchi game.

Exactly what I was afraid of, expected, even wined in advance before release - an NPC promising a reward of the century that maks you the richest man on the planet and giving several coppers.

The reward for this particular war table mission was dramatically underwhelming; and surprisingly so????

So in case there's anyone else here who dislike the 'wait until tomorrow real-time', there is now a mod that deactivates time completely for the War Table:

http://www.nexusmods...tion/mods/479/?

I'd rather have had an in-game timer where we could rest (as in Skyrim or Baldur's Gate), but at least I won't have to change my system time repeatedly in order to progress the game :)

Quite a few of the war table rewards are a bit rubbish but I don't really do them for gear, crafting makes most items useless anyway, and I like my slippers made from the heads of defenceless Fennecs. Apart from repeating gain coin when I have nothing else for someone to do, I do the war table missions to read the fluff (means background/lore) and see what happens when I send certain advisors to certain missions. The rewards could be better, but apart from accessories, I can do better crafting. I just wish there was a transmog system so I could craft a sword that looks like Caliban.

Also, the Inquisitor can have Starfang when they pry it from my Warden's cold, dead, kung-fu grip.

I don't think the reward is the belt.  The reward is the letter.

"You guys keep b*tching about how 'The Hero of Ferelden' is so awesome and could solve everything and be the Inquisitor?  Well, here, this is why the Warden isn't around, okay?  No, we can't make him/her appear in person, or speak.  The howls of how we 'ruined' the character would be heard from the moon (and yes, we know it doesn't work like that.  It would still be heard) if we did that.  So we threw you a bone.  Happy now?"

or something like that ;)

I think Bioware should learn that sometimes no reward is better than a rubbish one.

If the mission had just got a letter from the Warden that would have been OK, but if you get an item it becomes disappointing if that item isn't very good.

Oh yeah! The most surprisingly insulting war table mission reward in the history of planet Bioware.

Just for one "effing" minute consider the plethora of unique armors and/or weapons related to the HoF and his/her adventures during the Fifth Blight that would have sufficed??

Boggles the mind, doesn't it?

You also forgot to mention the letter bug if you romanced Morrigan and went through the mirror with her.

Apparently only High Dragons carries around useful, and unique items. It's best to forget anything on the war table, and become friends with a High dragon.

There is the Sulevin Blade though. That's like the strongest greatsword in the game.

I feel like the letter would have been better if it had been better suited to the warden and your inquisitor. We're both mages, why not send me a damn staff instead? Or if I used a dwarven warden with a qunari rogue, it could have been like 'yeah humans are cray cray, don't worry too much about it, btw I found this bitchin' vitaar and I'm told your people like it or something.' Or hey, even noble to noble 'yeah politics is what it is, you know how it goes, btw here's a cool schematic for your class I dug up'.
