Immolate makes everything ok.

Did you know Immolate is the Elementalists most effective power against pots.

It's not common knowledge, but I'm doing what I can to educate the masses.

Ok. I'm going to ask this here just for my curiosity.

I'm still just looking a bit and try to play more than actually look at all the builds because of limited time. But is there an issue with Lightning Bolt in either form that I'm not aware of and it doesn't seem that many Elementalists take?   I don't really play on Perilous at this time. but I do play a fair bit of threatening and it seems to work rather well for me but I'm looking at others opinion on it.  I prefer an upgraded lightning bolt as one of my 4 spells and have been considering replacing immolate with fire mine or firewall.  With my style fire mine may be the more tempting since it is high damage and a little more control on just how I place it it seems like.

Edit: As for the Elementalist having stronger barriers than a good Keeper that is actually a moot point and a bit of a misnomer. While they are capable of barriers that are a little bit stronger. Keepers are capable of a powerful barrier combo that increases resistances a bit while it's active, causes mana to regenerate faster, slower decay on those barriers making them last longer and a couple of incidentals in the other tree that as long as you can keep yourself in the barriers along with your party members allows you to basically have barrier ready before your first barrier wears off.  Giving you a few seconds of extra barrier oomph from a little barrier stacking without a second person casting it. And one final affect that can help of having a CC centered on you if they do break down your barrier which can potentially give you a little running or breathing time.

As a note they both have strength of the spirits and veiled return (a bit of reflected damage back at them) as well as guardian spirit. Chaotic Focus is the only barrier boosting passive that the Keeper doesn't have and it actually weakens your barrier each time it comes into play.

There is one thing that comes inherent in an Elementalist Barrier build that does seem to be missing from a fair amount of very fire heavy Elementalist CC builds that has been a complaint more than once.  The Control Tree has Peaceful Aura in it. This nifty little passive cuts your threat in half.   I end up with this in my CC build because I take lightning Bolt. but I leave out a couple of other things in the destruction tree (namely Firewall and or Fire Mine).

You can play without FW on Perilous just fine (I know, because I did),but you will be far more useful  to your team,if you take FW.

Note, I totally agree with you on most things, but there's somethings wrong here. While I am not promoting his build, these statements you've made are false and it is a matter of L2P.

Ranged spells like FW/FS absolutely roflstomp kd / panic archers as well as melee IF you position correctly.

My teams can do ok without barrier.

RTC is super easy to dodge with zero skills on the ability bar. DC is a joke now. Pop spirit potion. Done.

Immolate is not CC. Should still replace though.

Yup I agree. But here's the point I'm getting at with this build: You're going to be stationary with no safety net apart from guardian spirit, and you need a competent team that can survive without barrier. With no fade step you can't afford to get swarmed, particularly while on cooldown. With no barrier you will not be able to protect teammates from death nor will you have a lot of time to place FW or FS. Not impossible, just more difficult.

RTC is easy enough to dodge, but I know I've gotten caught by the little motherf---- due to rubberbanding, random collision, trying to revive a teammate, or just because I got distracted. This is why I like fade step incorporated into a build like this--which gives you both offensive and defensive capabilities.

In regards to my discussion about archers, there's two scenarios I see happening that are concerning with a barrierless-build: 1) multiple spaced-out archers will pepper you while you set up FS or FW, these are better for clusters and with no barrier you need to be quick; 2) All other abilities are on cooldown and with no barrier, you will need to find cover pretty fast.

With good cover and a well-maintained choke point though, these issues really just boil down to a matter of preference.

Thanks for the catch about immolate.

Barrier should read, you and/or your teammates may become invincible for 20 seconds.

Seriously.... this isnt a debate.

Now, with all due respect. I sometimes wont run it because I get bored with the builds or because my homies play keeper.

I converted! Now believe there is one, core build for eles-WoF/Stonefist/Firestorm/Barrier. Best toon in the game.

I've used both, barrier and no barrier. My preference is barrier, especially when running perilous. With a cd amulet, fs, the secondary barrier skill and using teammates to barrier, it's almost next to impossible for me to die. I always have barrier or it procs with fs or cds before my barrier is depleted. If you are trying to maintain immortal badges, then barrier is for you. veiled repose is also good if you have barriers.

It comes down to if you want to take the chance you may survive and have a competent team incorporated. But for me its ' PUG LYFE' so I like to know I'm safe if my teammates aren't good.
