Uneven quality wherever I look. Why less would be more for DAI...

I really go from being in love with this game to being bored senseless by it...

Really it amazes me how uneven this game is and how some regions actually can drag the whole game down.

Open world sections:

Emerald graves for examples... for the love of Andraste.. why is this even in game? Why did they not cut it out in order to release it with proper story content later as DLC...

After searching for 3 days for anything that is more than the UBISOFT questmarker on the map, after solving the haunting in the chateau I almost quit DAI completely... it was SO of-turning... I am glad I decided to just change the location to the way more interesting western approach... and now I am hyped...

But that is what a quality department is for... if a region is clearly a danger to the overall quality of the game... cut it... release it as DLC... earn money... I mean there are enough open world regions in this game...

Emo-mation (Facial Animation)

Lejliana is such a dead doll. How? Why? My love interest from DAO walks as if she had balls bigger than Iron Bull... with one separate set, like the Krogan... Her face shows no emotion whatsoever... but on the other hand... the Inquisitor, when choosing some romance options, she gets such wonderful facials... I get goosebumps...

Sera and Cassandra also have something alive to them... everyone actually feels more alive than the Nightingale...

Cut-scenes & story:

I like the overall story and I love most of the companions dialogue and character quests... Cassandra is amazing, Sera is crazy intriguing, Blackwall is boringly intriguing...

But some elements of the main story leave me speechless... the time travel was so by the book and cliche it was almost an insult... it was a typical b-movie... Sunday morning sci-fi show... written by the numbers with no wit, no imagination...

The party after closing the breach... it was like default party #5... like a stock party...

and then the attack on haven... Cullen running in front of the screen and screaming that we are under attack... or the song... daaamn... even worse executed than Lejlianas song in DAO...

Luckily after that I felt the quality went up up up...

In the end

But in the end... I truly like the game, there is stuff in it, that one could fell in love for... but there are things that could have been merged or straight out cut, to leave time to perfect other aspects of the game, that really come close to ruin the overall experience.

I wont even touch on the subject of having to move the cursor in tactical view like a character... or the fact, that the camera work is a piece of work sometimes... or the soon to be corrected lack of storage chest, or ingame face editor...

I don't mean to rant here... as said I like the game, I do not hate on it... I am simply baffled how uneven it is and at its best, it is easily one of BioWare's best games, but at it's worst... it's not even close to DA2....

I also hate the fact, that I cannot have the game in full english... in Poland I am restricted to english audio and written polish, but I consider the translation a poor joke...

Stuff like the chasind is not really translated, but other stuff like the freemen is translated... and listening to english audio and reading codex entries in polish... you get really a headache trying to understand what the translator meant...

Polish is not a very sexy language regarding translating western media... just check this out:

Demolition Man - in english... sound cool, sounds manly, sounds like a testosterone fest, right?
Człowiek demolka (read like this Chloviek demolka) - the translation robs all the testosterone filled masculinity out of the original title..

nothing western should ever be default translated into polish... it just sounds bad... always! I do not say, stop translating, I say allow me to choose english!

I.. think the Nightingale was meant to be like that. Could be wrong, but that's how I understood her entire DA:I thing.

I'm honestly not sure what's wrong about the animations... I think I would write them more or less the same way, honestly.

As for the translations... We have this one advantage across the border, being too small a market for translations to pay off.

There are no translations to make our head hurt - other than our own, which, sadly, not everyone can pull off... It's a double-edged sword.

Tak či tak, pro některé je to na houby.

Even more days under the belt and again, the open world sections wore me down only to be uplifted by the next story segment and a ton of new dialogue options after that.

I think part of the problem is, that this games throws everything story or character driven at you at once after each story mission, and then dumps you in those open world sections with nothing but written codex entries until you complete the next story mission.

It is kinda funny, cause I start one cutscene conversation with a character at Skyhold and when it's over I click again to check if I can get the normal dialogue wheel options, but then I get another cutscene conversation, that is supposedly to be happening much later then just a few second later.

This in the extreme I think can happen 3 or 4 times in a row. Now it is all great to get this much conversations, which are really good written, but the downside is, once you "work through it" you will be left with nothing but the dialogue wheel until you finish the next story mission.

Now here is what I think would have helped...

You finish one story mission, right?

You get the first tier of conversations with all characters. After that, they tell you to come back later or they activate normal dialogue wheel with standard dialogue options.

Now you need to go grind power... lets say 2 power for the next tier of conversations per character.

I mean, there is more than enough power to use it to unlock the next phase of conversations (I am 80 hours in with around 100 power now)... and this would make the grind even more fulfilling... and the story and character bits would flow a bit better in combination with the open world sections...

I mean this as constructive critique, not a rant...

I seldom have such a love/bore relationship with a game and I truly believe there are small parts you need to do, in order to iron out this stuff for DAI2 (because, lets face it... this seems to be the template for future DAI games and hell, I am not complaining about that...)

By the way, how do we solve the hunting in the stupid chateau? I spent like 45 minutes trying everything to get onto the goddamn balcony. I searched through every corner of the mansion over and over and over and never found a key to unlock the doors. I tried to jump out the window and shimmy along the ledge, but that didn't work. I finally just gave up and left.

You have to find four clues hidden in the chateu first.

I'm pretty sure I found everything there was to find. What do I need to do?

Have you seen a clickable statue... or maybe an interactive painting?
Think in line of: Were would people hide a safe?

And that chateau should have had some cutscene story to it... like those haunted buildings in DA2... they were not that great, but in comparison... those were masterpieces...

But here we just get some lazy codex entries... I tell you... this could have been cut in order to make it DLC with fully voiced and animated cut scenes...

Once you have all four, the dragon statue will move and you can get the key off it's tail.

You have to use the search function when you're in an area around them to find each clue. The clues will lead to other areas you'll have to search, until you get to the final clue, which will show you how to get the key from the High Dragon statue.

Well, not that I disagreed.

I also would prefer the game were a bit shorter and invested more in the relationships and character developments instead. I would not even require them to make new cut scenes. Just don't lock me out of content only because I don't romance. I will not play a male, so I will never see Cassandra read poetry or learn of Josie's planned marriage. Why? Why can't I get a part of all that, just without the romance bits? It would require a bit more cutscene creation, yes, and that costs more than littering the world with shards, but it would make my game better. (The shards didn't.)

However, it is the very nature of an open world game. They spend all that time modelling huge areas, so they of course want people to actually go there and, hence, they fill them with collectibles. Really, I could have done just fine without the shards and mosaics and so on. (Or let's say I want the mosaics but I don't want getting them to be so tedious.) In theory we could just ignore all those tiny bits but in the real world the completionist in me cries out in pain (despite me having done 3 completionist playthroughs on nightmare before burning out on the fourth). However I do not want to blame them because in the end I am free to ignore the collectibles, like I am free to create a male character in order to romance Dorian or Cass and so on. Only because I am weird enough not to do what I could does not mean it's BioWare's fault.

The Emerald Graves are beautiful and I actually enjoyed the hunted Chateau more than any other part of the region. But it is also one of my least favorite ones. I would be content if we had regions without too many collectibles and only few compelling quests per region. However, I understand that the process of modeling is tedious so they want to get "many hours of gameplay" out of it. (Never mind if those long hours are mostly made up of walking from A to B in order to find a scrap of paper that might or might not be in the sand somewhere.)

As for your Polish version, couldn't you simply import the English version and be fine?

I just wish the world felt a bit more connected. The extra places sometimes feel like they're there just because.

It's not that easy. I had a similar problem with ME2 (which strangely is the only one of the ME trilogy that is translated to Czech)

Xen was being adressed as a man in the text, along with many incorrect and outright wrong translations..

And the catch is, you can not change a game's language in Origin. I tried - maybe I just didn't find it, but it's not there as far as I know.

And overwriting the files is pretty much asking for trouble sometimes.

Ah, I am a console player. Since I am buying discs I could simply import a disc from whatever country to get the language. If you need to download it might be different. But couldn't you create another account? I specifically created a "Japanese" account on... a console network... to get access to Japanese DLC and games. It should be possible on PC, too?

In my Origin account, I have specified my preference for English. Yet my client, and any applicable games are in Czech.

And I won't create another account where I'd lie about the country, that one is EXTRA asking for trouble. If not a lawsuit or something.

Yep, in-game language becomes a way of limiting the spread of "cheap" copies in foreign markets... but the polish game is not cheaper than its German or British equivalent... the Russian copies are (as far as I know) the cheapest versions...

I never thought that localisation will become a problem for those who prefer English...

but then I did not think people would intentionally dumb games down...

The price for gaming being now one of the biggest entertainment businesses..

I never thought about that. I pay for stuff I use. I buy my music, I buy my games. It seems only people who play by the rules run into trouble. If you download illegally you can have whatever you want, I suppose. I really don't know being a console gamer. I even think my games let me choose the language but I've never paid much attention. I do understand your discontent though. To... uh... make up for it... look on the bright side? You get the Polish original of the Witcher! ;)

That is true... but I have to keep quit about the cost of the new rig that's coming in two months... or certain family members might...

hurt me... or declare me insane :D

But the Witcher is a different animal... it is first written in English and then translated into Polish (Witcher 2 was also written this way)... but as its source material is native polish, the translation is way easier...

And they are nice enough to let you download all available language versions (written and spoken)... no restrictions whatsoever...

And stuff originally written in polish can be badass... it is just the other way around that almost always hurts...

Don't get your hopes up.

Did you hear about the Czech translation of ArmA 3?

And Bohemia Interactive is (I know, it's in the name) a Czech company.

And so I ended up playing Czech games in English. Because holy heck, apparently the devs forgot their native language.

Heh. The Emerald graves is my absolutely favorite area to explore, while the Western approach is easily my most loathed.

I hate the western approach with a fiery intensity...but part of the reason for that is how many Alpha quillback spikes one has to collect when completing the quest for the Artificer specialization, and how rarely those things spawn/actually drop spikes. That was a nightmare of monotony. On top of that, I never get any companion banter there. Ever.

a) voice-overs

B) does not apply for games other than Inquisition - mind you, I actually stated that my country does not have a translation, and that my problems were with ME2...
