I don't have Citadel DLC, in fact I don't have any of the paid for DLC for ME3. I have everything for ME1 and ME2, but after playing through ME3 and witnessing that ending, I just see no reason to continue to give Bioware any more money.

The DLC helps take away some of the sting. If anything it makes the game somewhat better if you try hard enough to make the war go in your favor. I will say, that without any DLC, even ending is sad and depressing. Even if you manage to unlock to Synthesis ending, stuff will explode without DLC.
