Hi peeps,

I'm about to start my sixth and probably final play through of the game pending story based dlc, and my second 'canon' play through.

This is my ruthless warlord game, and I want to use a dual dagger rogue( it being the one class I haven't played yet) and since her byword will be 'stabbity, stabbity' I think she'll get along great with Sera. With that in mind, I intend for her to be a tempest, but I have no idea how to spec, build or play one, let alone which daggers I should be looking for or crafting.

Help?

Also, since I can no longer save time by duping Dragon gear, am I right in thinking that volcanic aurum is the best armour crafting gear in terms of defensive value?

Lastly, is it possible to harden leliana, side with the Templars and put her on the throne?

Much obliged

Tempest is pretty straight forward just pop upgraded flask of lightning and go to town. Some of the many uses for this cheesy ability is to gap close with ranged enemies while everything is frozen, instantly revive teammates, or walk up to a rift and use the "disrupt rift" interaction for free. Don't waste your abilities if flask of fire is still available, make sure to use them with flask of fire first, then again once it's on cooldown. Remember that upgraded frost flask taunts everything so you can use to draw aggro off of squishies if need be.

For daggers there are some good unique ones out there. Vinsomer drops a powerful unique dagger and there is one with the "Heal 1% health on hit" masterwork in the Emerald Graves though I don't recall how to get it. When crafting you can go for guard on hit or heal on hit if you want to be safer, or use hidden blades masterwork/other damaging effects to get more burst damage.

Thank you sir, having read some threads here I'm actually thinking of going assassin instead, because just once I'd like to feel the untrammaled power of killing a Dragon in under a minute.

And I think Vinsomer will be that Dragon :)

The tempest dagger builds aren't very complicated, usually tempest tree + righthand side of double daggers tree + energy refund on crit from poison tree + the rest in the stealth tree. The main thing with tempest is that with three flasks and a focus ability you won't have room for a lot of different attack abilities (usually no more than two). Twin fangs + shadow strike or twin fangs + deathblow are common combinations, though some people like to use shadow strike instead of twin fangs.

As you might imagine gameplay hinges on flask use. Flask of Frost is great both in defense and offense, allowing you to set up a lot of combos.

Flask of Fire can be used very well with deathblow spam, especially when an opponent is at 50%. This flask also works quite well with the dagger throw ability, allowing you to deal solid damage to almost any enemy without them being able to interrupt you. Flask of Fire + upgraded shadow strike is also great for reducing all your cooldowns.

Flask of Lightning is arguably the most fun tempest ability to use and the most versatile. Killing any non-boss enemy without them getting to do anything, positioning yourself, getting some solid damage in on a boss without risk of reprisal, getting away from a tricky situation, dodging projectiles; it works for everything. Common flask chaining is frost->fire->lightning to get the most use out of (arguably) the best flask, but they're strong abilities no matter the order.

All that said, assassin is also a great class. More shadow gameplay than tempest, more streamlined stat allocation (as assassin you get supreme crit chance and armor penetration abilities, so you can craft gear almost solely towards flanking and crit damage, as tempest you need to spread the stats out more) and even more damage (not counting abusing flask of fire + focus ability) at the cost of less defensive capacity. Both classes can essentially take out groups of enemies before they get a chance to do much of anything and kill bosses in little time.

Thanks Wepeel. I have to admit that since I'm not really looking for a challenge on this playthrough (i've done my challenges, this one is for pure story) that I'm tempted by both builds.

On the one hand the massive damage I've seen from assasin video's is appealing, but the Tempest flask abuse seems hilarious
