Rolling the dice on the Store isn't particularly one of the most rewarding things one can do in this game. Because of so many repeated items and so much salvageable junk, on one of these days I decided to boycott the Store. I've managed do save up 268k out of the 930k total I've earned playing the game so far.
I am not among one of those veteran players who own all top-tier item in the game. There are many good stuff I still don't have. But I feel like there is no point in going to the Store anymore, I could easily burn all this Gold and get nothing useful in return. So I decided to save up Gold for the Future, in the hopes that either the Store gets reshaped/improved/overhauled or new items are released.
But the question now is: 'Is there a Future?'
I wonder if other players are facing this same situation/dilemma.

I am at 550K earned/spent right now and I am still missing a vast majority of top level equipment. I haven't saved anything yet, but I likely will begin soon as the store is nothing but a big letdown each time I visit.
I would highly doubt that they will change the chest system at any point, but I would imagine that new weapons, gear, mods will be added alongside additional DLC. That is enough for me to begin my saving in the near future.

I would hate to spend 240k and get griffon bow 7 times. That would make me want to rage quit.

DAMP was said to be supported 'beyond ME3' so yes.
(though it may be more useful to salvage the stuff you buy for materials)
Will need to wait to see if money or materials will be more useful.

If there's a future update perhaps they can allow us to salvage potions? I have way too many Cold tonics, Fire tonics etc...Can't ever see a reason to equip them. Maybe if they changed them to affect a full level?

Once you've spent ~250k, it may take 15-30 chests in between getting an item you would use. ~500k, maybe 1/25 to 1/75 chests. ~1kk, maybe 1/50 to 1/150.
The people I know who've spent 1kk+ are still missing a few of the top items, and the odds of them getting the missing items are very low. There might be people who have gotten all of the best items after about 750-1kk spent, especially given the amount of commendation and victory chests that have already been released, but if we were to assume they are in the 50th percentile of being lucky, then a good number of people who spend over 1kk, maybe even up to 2kk, may still be missing one or a few of the best items.
I personally believe that it is extremely likely that bioware will try to add new items into store chests, even though I disagree with that particular method of addressing the issue, in which case it is a very good idea to just save up your gold if you already have enough decent items to do well at the difficulty level you play at. For most people, and assuming not too much luckiness or unluckiness, this may be ~100-200k if you play threatening, and ~200-500k if you play perilous.
I wish bioware did not try to address the issue through added items into store chests because it will reward people who hoarded gold and punish people who did not hoard gold. The most equitable way to do it is through schematics that require extremely high amounts of tier 3 crafting materials, so that people who have spent their money will have the crafting materials, and people who did not spend their money will have to spend their money and salvage like the other folk to get the crafting materials.
Before people complain about me being someone who didn't hoard money and is trying to convince bioware to not screw me over, know that I have only spent 500k on large chests and have over 750k saved up, and what I care about is that fewest players are screwed over by the sh*t loot system if it is ever fixed.

I did this once, saved to around 90k but the realization dawned on me that the reward system probably isn't going to change so I just spent it.
1.5 million gold later (I'm not joking), still no longshot ring.

I saved 300k and I'm at my limit. Every time I get 10k over the 300k I spend it just to see if I get anything good, usually I do not. Plus I was down to 24 healing potions.
On the other hand I started getting more unique weapons during my runs but I never noticed the card being purple. Unfortunately it is only weapons, rings etc are still rare. More iron I say.
I'm missing the one ring, the "one" ring to rule them all, the lord of the rings, HoK.

Every time I hit around 5-6k gold I start thinking, "maybe this time".
Then I go to the store, open my chests - my gaming experience is ruined (childish I know) - and I'll "ragequit" for a few days.
I really ought to avoid the store.

It is probably a good time to start. Once I realized I had everything I needed to play Perilous and what I didn't have the Store wouldn't give me anyway, I decided it was the time to save.
I think there's definitely going to be new items... but damp RNG is not the same as me3mp RNG. Your chances of getting the new items will not be very good.
I would hate to spend 240k and get griffon bow 7 times. That would make me want to rage quit.
That is why I am strongly in favor of a trading system. Getting the same Unique Item repeated times and having it serve no purpose is just stupid. A trading system would pretty much fix all the issues the store has.

To hell with trading, this RNG needs to be scrubbed and an actual in-game NPC-type store needs to be added that allows you to purchase whatever the heck you want.
They can keep a random chest as an option to possibly obtain an expensive item for "free" by roll-of-the-dice, and as a way to accumulate crafting materials. But the core of this system needs to be modified to allow players to save up enough money for the guarantee that it's actually worth it.
I would rather save up 750,000 gold to get a superb amulet of cooldown than I would 2000 useless items that I have to waste my time salvaging one by one.

There's advantages to trading with other players and a store that lets you purchase whatever the heck you want, but there's a few things we need to keep in mind.
1. This is a multiplayer with very limited content, where bee-lining for the best items will result in reduced longevity.
2. Receiving items you didn't ask you will motivate you to try out the new items with different classes and abilities.
3. Trading for what you want is often a lopsided deal, with more knowledgeable players taking advantage of less knowledgeable players.
Imo, the best way, and easiest way, for bioware to fix the loot system in this game, is to copy and paste the ME3MP system. Make the weakest rank 1 weapon at least 50% of the effectiveness of the strongest rank 10 weapon, and allow all weapons to be leveled up and compete with each other (at most 20-30% difference in effectiveness between a common X and a unique X weapon). If the odds of obtaining the best items at rank 10 is too long, make it so maxed out weapons being found in chests again will have x% chance of being one of the yet-to-be obtained items.
Once there's not such a ridiculous difference between weapons, it can become practically feasible to balance the different difficulty levels for a majority of players instead of having different difficulty levels for people at different stages of loot obtainment. And it will also make it feasible for all sorts of extra armor, accessories, elixirs (like temporary elemental weapon upgrades that last for the duration of a game in me3mp), in order to allow people to become stronger in more ways than just "oh i got a griffon lets faceroll". But, bioware being bioware, they'll probably just throw in level 30 unique weapons that obsolete all other weapons and we'll have the same boring "1 best weapon for each category" bs.

I loves my Cloth...
I got only one Imperial vestment cotton. I need 3 more. I had eight IVCs during the first 150K I spent. Additional 250K brought me only one and even that was from salvaging my enchanted moon axe which I got within the first week of playing.
I did get two purple HOK rings though, so I'm not complaining about RNG.

I think I get most of my IVC from high-level mage upgrades. You know, Enchanter Battle Arms, and such. All staves in the world seem to be made of common silk.
Why is there no wood in this game?

I would save up gold as well, but I seriously need a HoK ring and it could take me millions of gold hoping to finally get one. I'm fine missing some weapons and whatnot because if BioWare adds new drops there will likely be new options. The HoK rings are probably the single most important items you can get.
The big problem from my perspective is that if/when BioWare does add new items it will only serve to further dilute the loot pool and make it even more difficult to get the HoK rings. In MEMP you could at least "clear out" items so that they'd no longer drop again, but here we cannot do that (save armor) so every new item makes existing items that much more rare.
I really feel like they've painted themselves into a corner with the loot system. The only sensible way to add new items now and sidestep some of the issues is to do so via crafting. I suppose we'll have to wait and see what they do over the next few months.

... The HoK rings are probably the single most important items you can get. ... .
IMO, the hype is not worth it, these rings are not real game breakers. Good weapons and solid builds are more important. I may sound hypocritical but due to scrubby gameplay, I sometimes tend to take unneeded risks and die probably more with these rings than playing conservatively without them. Also, off host, occasionally, they conveniently "forget" to work. So, I'd say that a good player does not really need them. And a bad player does not know how to use them properly.

For me its not about saving, its about not wanting to salvage anymore. I m getting tired to clicking with mouse button at salvage and presing spacebar to confirm...one salvaging takes me more time than a actual game..jeez..i litteraly wants only 1-2 purple items (Caliban and Dwarwen proving shield). Saved 50K but the ammount will get bigger.

I'm a new player to this multiplayer but I played ME3MP for over 1000 hours so I'm familiar with the RNG grind. Now my biggest beef with this games chest/loot system is the fact that even if you get a unique item it might still be a useless low level piece of ****. I've gotten 3 unique items during my game time, which all have been weapons. Now the last 2 weapons I've gotten have been lvl 10... It's already a freaking small chance to even get a unique so getting a useless low level unique jusr feels extremely wrong.
I really can't say anything to the topic part of saving money, since I'm still in the need of basic items. But I do hope they could do some tweaks to the store.

I probably should start saving now, I went through a purple patch (quite litterally) were I was getting a unique in every medium chest I opened and a lot of tge time I was getting 2 uniques. Now that has dried up and i'm lucky if I get a superb rune. Every time I get to around 900 gold-1200 gold I will spend it in hopes of rediscovering that glorious time

I am playing with gear I have and from time to time RNG surprise me with a nice item.Yesterday I got nice unique sword Starfang, hidden behind blue card (better that than unique card turning to be crappy rare
