I've just finished "what pride had wrought"
and I am lacking pure essences for crafting a superb rune.
Does anyone know where I can buy or still find some? No matter if ice, fire etc.
I've completed all normal maps (like emprise du lion etc.) and also completed the shards oasis-cave.

If you have unlocked all areas and done all rifts, forts and killed all bosses in every area, you should have a good number of pure essences.

unfortunately not.
All dragons, etc. are dead and rifts are closed.
but I realize that I've only crafted superb runes for my group.
And me (a DW rogue) is now stuck with "normal" runes...
I mean, it is not that the game in general (on nightmare) is too difficult,
I just WANT to craft 2 good daggers so badly ;-)
And I refused to do the trick where you take the essences and leave one other item in the loot,
just to come back and take the essences over and over again.
Aren't there any merchants who sell essences??
BTW, I took the "short list perk" but those 2 merchants (Hissing Wastes and Sul.) still have exactly the same items... !
On some of the tougher rifts, especially the ones in say Emerald Graves, etc - when you kill some of the bigger demons (like the rage demons or despair demons) they will drop the essence your looking for to craft such items.
Ok, so this is a little cheesy but what you do is kill all the demons, but don't close the rift. Switch to another party member other than your inquisitor, search the area and pick up the essence, then depart the area without closing the rift. Repeat until you have enough essence to craft whatever it is you need to craft. The reason you want to switch to another party member is it allows you to pickup the loot without running the risk of closing the rift.
Same thing works well for things like the Revenant heart you need for.. think it's a cleansing rune. There's a rift in the Exalted plains with a revenant, generally I'll hit this same rift dozens of times and harvest enough hearts to get two or maybe 3 runes out of it before closing it because I haven't found another good source for them just yet.
Oh, sorry, missed the part where you said you refused to do the resealable rift trick. Then nope, odds are good your screwed. Some essences are just really hard to come by for whatever reason. Fire Essence, for example, seems to be rarer than hens teeth for example. I can usually get 3, maybe 4 - I've never gotten the 6 I need for even a basic fire rune until it's so late in the game that +10 damage is like, right.. who cares? But at least the flaming sword thing is kind of neat.
Since many essences are non-renewable without the repeatable rift-looting "exploit" I don't feel about using it. I mean sure, it's cheesy, but it's also literally the only way to keep getting more essence for runes after a certain point. If they had just made them buyable somewhere then I wouldn't have to do it. I usually limit myself to how many I harvest at a time (like 5 or so) between quests to keep it reasonable. But if you don't use it to some extent then I've found that you just won't be able to craft very many runes, sadly.
Pure essences used to be easy to get in number from the duplication exploit ( which has been patched =/ ), so either use the rift exploit, or just lve the only master runes (which isn't much better tbh).
They really need a essence vendor where you can buy the mats you need for all superb runes ( looking at you, revenant hearts >.> ), and maybe dragon mats if they are expensive enough and are in limited amounts to avoid buying in bulk for making the best armor and weapons in excess.

The vendor thing would be great, or maybe they could just reduce the number of essence needed to craft a rune. I mean seriously 6 of the things for +10 damage when they are that hard to come by? Plus you can't even start using them till you get to Skyhold, so by the time you do +10 damage isn't really much to write home about. Kind of ridiculous really when you stop and think about it.
Don't you get one of these by completing the side quest in the fade?
