Flask of Fire + Thousand Cuts =/= Dead Highland Ravager

My Inquisitor is an archer so I rarely use Sera. However, I'd heard about the Flask of Fire and Thousand Cuts exploit so I took her to fight the Highland Ravager. The exploit didn't work (the Focus meter was depleted), but more importantly Sera did negligible damage, barely hurting the dragon. She's wielding a custom bow I originally built for the Inquisitor, so it's not suited for her, I guess.

What I wanted to know was, how do I maximize Sera's damage output? She's Level 21 right now and Thousand Cuts should do a lot of damage as far as I know; it did about 600-700 every cut.

They may have fixed the infinite focus bug with the last patch. Regardless you should be able to kill anything in 1 thousand cuts with the right setup so it's irrelevant. I consider this to be cheese personally so I'm not an expert on it, but:

1. Make sure you are using the tier 3 version of the ability with 300 focus.

2. I think the most important way to increase the damage is with the fully upgraded Mighty Offense Tonic since it gives +100% crit damage. You will want a high crit rate to make as many hits as possible criticals with this effect active.

3. Might as well use tears of the dead as well, not sure what else you could do with the 2nd potion slot that would add more damage (ooze grenade with 50% debilitate maybe?)

4. I imagine that the 50% damage bonus from Stealth would apply to thousand cuts just like anything else so might as well cast it out of stealth along with the Subterfuge passive that sunders when attacking from stealth.

5. To really maximize it bring Cole and use mark of death before the thousand cuts, then make sure to manually trigger it afterwards. This should at least double the damage, maybe more.

Yep. To pull off the solo one-shot, you need a high crit chance and Mighty Offense, and ideally another potion (doesn't matter what kind). Mighty Offense for the big boost to crits, and the other potion because, for tempests, every potion consumed gives them a stacking +15% damage (for comparison, that's half of the maximum berserk buff!), so you want to consume multiple potions. The potion passive is on the right side of the tempest tree, IIRC, make sure you have it.

Plus, as with all rogues, you want sundering or armor penetration abilities since dragons are heavily armored.

Also, Sera probably has it if she's specced as an archer, but make sure she has Pincushion. Ten seconds of a stacking damage buff for every hit... yeah, combine that with tier 3 TC and it stacks up pretty high.

Are you thinking of Knife in the Shadows? That's an assassin ability.

However all rogues do get a damage bonus when attacking from stealth or (if in melee range) when flanking. And even archers can double their crit chance while flanking by grabbing the Sneak Attack passive from the daggers tree.

Sorry, got my talents mixed up. Was thinking of Ambush + sneak attack for the Armor penetration from stealth and double crit chance.. should always take the dagger passives, even when playing as an archer.

I'm not certain how it all stacks but with my tempest rogue archer I use mighty offensive+tears of the dead+flask of fire+thousand cuts+poisoned weapon and any dragon is dead or seriously damaged. I also have thousand cuts and poison enhanced rings and normally have Iron Bull lob in a pitch grenade right away.

If you don't have pincushion and might offense it won't work, to reiterate other posters.

I haven't been able to find the Apostate in Storm Coast, so I don't have the Mighty Offense Recipe. But I crafted Sera a better bow with some armor penetration and a rune and this time I did 33% damage. It was enough to make it a fight. Didn't have Pincushion either, so if I get both Pincushion and Mighty Offense, she'll be even better, I gather.

Now to find that Apostate. If I can. Thanks for the input, all.

The freaking amount of damage Sera can do basically comes of the crits. Put everything on her than can either increase critical damage or critical chance. If you have to decide, go for critical chance. You can craft T3 bows with additional critical chance and you can put a dragon slayer rune into one of these for some nice bonus damage. The other part is using skills that either stack damage like pincussion or increase crits like sneak attacks. Skilled like this with full 3 bars of focus, basically anything will die in seconds.

On an afterthought, if the end fight wasn't scripted, it would also be over within seconds, but those scripts - if I remember correctly - stop the thousand cuts. Kinda lame :D

Apart from what everyone else already said, it helps to craft a bow that makes 200+ DPS. But if you are level 21 I guess you already have one.

In addition to the excellent advice above, if they've fixed the infinite-focus bug with FoF and Thousand Cuts, you may want to forget FoF and use Flask of Lightning instead.  Bring Varric and a mage with Elemental Barrage as well, and make sure once you set Sera up to pop Thousand Cuts, you switch to controlling someone else.

I hope it doesn't get 'patched'

Not because im looking to be OP (and as you can see, it does require a little help from passives and potions), but because it really feels like you're a tempest, a storm upon the battle field.

also, there have been plenty of times I've gone to use the combo, only to have it use up my focus.

also you can stack health regen potions to stack killer's alchemy

also stack killer's alchemy via mighty potion and health regen -> FoF -> stealth -> 1000 cuts

Pitch Grenades don't work on dragons btw since they are immune to all disabling (e.g. slow) effects.

Does it really matter? An assassin spec'd archer with MoD can kill the thing solo in 7 seconds...lol
