I shouldn't have made this my first topic. Because I now agree with a lot of what's being said. But I can't figure out how to delete this. So let's make it clear. I now agree that he's damn awesome the way he is.

Is anyone else disturbed that Cersei is drinking so much in all these gifs?

Now the OP has come around to our side on Dorian, I think that Cersei's drinking problem needs to be addressed next...?

I'm sure it's the only way she can live with herself, so I say let her have all the wine she wants :)

Which is ironic, since Chuck Norris' past support of anti-LGBT campaigns would imply that he wouldn't approve of Dorian's lifestyle... but that's kinda besides the point, eh? Dorian's awesomeness is what matters!

I thought it was rather cute how your Inquizzy could go to Dorian after the Redcliffe quest and be like "  :( you led me on"

My mage!Trevelyan definitely had a bit of a crush on him (he's fabulous and clean and the best person to be stuck in time with) which then turned into the best friendship ever~

Plus I don't see anyone complaining about Solas/Cullen being species-locked or Viv just being locked in general. It's just an aspect of the character - not everyone can be IB running around sticking himself into anything with a hole after he kills a dragon (thinking about it with the greatest respect of course). (Being turned down by Viv hurt though   so much burn in that rejection)

You clearly have not looked around enough then.

Not at all my lady quizzy has 4 other men of various backgrounds to romance.

But I don't like Dorian that much anyway so maybe I'm not the best judge. *shrug*

His reaction to this was the best ever and made my girl love him even more (as a friend). The games need more friend hugs.

That said, I did make a guy specifically to romance him and liked that character so much he became my canon Inquisitor. I wouldn't change that for anything.

I'll be honest. I do still feel a little resentful that Dorian is gay. Because, yes, I do vastly prefer a female inquisitor because I prefer that VA and my attempts at the CC don't make my eyes bleed. I resent Cassandra being straight for the same reason. And Cullen (who I don't even like that much) being race gated for what feels like no reason except resources. I would happily give up all my supposed extra options that I don't like and switch with the guys. They hit the jackpot.

meanwhile I'm here thinking "Cassandra is ok, but I'd like some more variety"

Sorry, no playersexuality, Bioware doesn't dig it.

Also Dorian being available to everyone would mean that his story had to be rewritten. It wouldn't make lot of sense to character.

So just because you didn't get what you wanted on a platter, you resent those character's sexuality? Oh BSN, never change.

I don't feel like I was left out of Dorian's story for not romancing him. He's the most awesome friend an Inquisitor could have! You are important to him. Quite possibly one of his only true friends left. By the end of the game, I felt just as close to Dorian as I did my actual romance. Friendship can be just as powerful.

And if you really want to go his romance path- just make a male inquisitor. But there's no reason to make him straight.

I don't really think you're missing out on much. He's my canon LI and frankly I wish I could romance him and still have as meaningful of a friendship with someone as he offers.

Players don't like dealing with alternative scenarios. Everything must be as it is in their game.

For God's sake, devs even felt it necessary to declare that Duncan had visited every person in every possible origin but all of them died except for your character because people couldn't wrap their heads around the idea of Duncan going to place A in someone's game and place B in someone else's. No! Impossible! He must have gone to A AND B!

Ew, really? In every one of my Origins games, I had it in my head that Duncan either only ever went to the one that ended up becoming the "Warden". Maybe it was those filthy conso- I mean, filthy 1 canon playthrough peasants whom can't imagine players having more than 1 canon Warden that complained. Or maybe people less specific?

I hated how every companion in DA2 could be romanced by anyone, even if it was implied in an earlier game, that they might be straight *cough*Anders*cough*.

Oh yeah, I actually felt left out of Dorian's story. NOT because he could be romanced by only one gender, but because if you don't romance him, he doesn't have a whole lot of character development (i.e. no quests) after the letter from his father, which I always ended up doing shortly after reaching Skyhold.

Don't worry, darling. Your sentiments are understandable.

One of the things that helps me enjoy Dorian as much as I do, even while loving every bit of him the way he is, even while I can't romance him with a female Inquisitor, is how easy it is for a female PC to have a kind of platonic romance with him. He's not attracted to her, but he enjoys flirting immensely and he can come to consider her one of the most important people in his life even without an actual romance.

Perhaps you've gone through this potential aspect of his character arc: After his personal quest, if you've been flirting with him, you can have the opportunity to address his "leading you on". He will apologize, and offer to stop. When my Inquisitor said, "Stop? Don't you dare." and Dorian responded by looking positively elated, and agreed not to stop flirting (just for the fun of it), it was one of my favorite dialogue exchanges in the entire game.

Some people have suggested this presents him as a stereotype...a "sitcom gay best friend" type...but to me it has always felt very personal and refreshing. And for my default Inquisitor, it was one of my most important relationship paths within the game...almost more important than that of her actual romance interest.

Not really - I'm a female and love having Dorian as my flirty bestie. If he'd been straight, sure, I might have romanced him because he's a good match for me in terms of his humor and intelligence (ended up falling hard for Blackwall, so this was ultimately a moot point for me - heh). Just play as a guy and romance Dorian - you certainly have the opportunity to get together with him, and I don't really see it as being cheated out of anything when you have that option. *shrug*

Really? I need to go back and reload that scene, I had no idea that it ended with that kind of amazing banter between the two? I didn't pick that option because I figured that it would be a highly awkward moment between the two, much like that with Traynor in ME3 when she has to spell her sexuality out for a Male Shepard and how Sera likewise does so as if explaining to a small kid?

Good to know that it ends on a far more upbeat and positive note and that this mock-flirtation can continue, because it does make their friendship seem far more stronger that both of them are completely accepting of each other as they are?

And I agree entirely, I don't think we've ever had a truly "sitcom gay best friend"-type character in any of the Bioware games? Cortez and Dorian always struck me as having an extremely close friendship with Shepard and Inquisitor regardless of gender, while Traynor and Sera tend to illicit more of a sibling-esque vibe?

It's part of why I adore Male Shepard's reaction (and Mark Meer's performance) during Traynor's visit to the apartment in the Citadel DLC for ME3, because it honestly comes across less like he's feeling awkard about a lesbian co-worker unashamedly bathing in front him and more like he's just witnessed his sister take her kit off and slip into a hot tub?!

Well, there are two other options on the dialogue wheel, and I think one of them was something along the lines of, "Yes, don't let it happen again."

I bet that one's a bit awkward. :?

This reminds me of that angry thread about Sera rejecting a male Inquisitor.

I love Dorian as he is, and I'm looking forward to playing a male character to romance him. Besides, his friendship is adorable, he's much more up front about it than I thought he'd be. Like saying the Inquisitor is the main reason he's sticking around, because Tevinter lacks his best friend (aww). ^_^

You don't always have to end in a romantic relationship with someone. I click really well with two of my best friends, one is another hetero man and the other one a lesbian. Maybe in other realities I could have end up with any of them, but we're just close friends, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Going from that point of view your complaint seems childish at best. Now, I don't know if this is true, but if what you're trying to say is that Dorian's friendship arc wasn't as well done as the romantic one, that you feel left out because being his friend just doens't feel like you're really friends... That is a complaint I could get behind, though personally I think it was more of a case of making realistic friendship conversations, leaving most of the actual interactions out because, well, it's a game, you can't fit months of interactions in a game.

I feel like the game wasn't as good because I couldn't let my female be with who she clicked with.

I can't be with Legolas though I really click with him. I still can go on living quite well.

Seriously, I get your point and I liked Dorian, too. But that did not diminish the experience for me. This is really a dual-edged sword. On the one hand this is exactly what makes Dorian feel so great, makes the whole game a bit more realistic. On the other hand you don't get exactly that out of your game that you want. I personally don't mind and prefer the approach BioWare took when introducing a few gates (I don't want anymore, though, most of all I don't want class-based gating for romances).

But I don't think you can reach consensus here, it is just such a controversial topic.

Not as bad tho, at least nobody's saying Dorian should be severely punished for daring to be gay & rejecting a M/F relationship like the OP in the Sera thread thought should happen :?

True enough! I haven't seen threats of violence.
