ME2 technically had a S/S romance option, just was treated as a fling instead of a romance

Yeah but it is like saying that a choice to get, uhm, S/S service in The Pearl or seducing a minister in DA:I is a regular romance option. I have nothing against the yeoman and her open-minded attitude towards relationships but the argument is bit jarring.

I am sorry for getting off topic.

Yeah, I count Kelly as a queer character, but I think it's pretty disingenuous to compare what can happen with her to what straight people get in ME2 by calling her a romance option or love interest.

At first I was disappointed that I couldn't have a romance with him. I felt the same way, my character clicked with him more as well. BUT I liked him the way he was and never having a gay bestie IRL I suppose this is the next best thing. I just wish there was more adventures/conversations to have :P

Initially, I was slightly disappointed mostly because it was my first pt and I had little experience with the different characters. But after experiencing his story as a female inky, I loved it because it made me accept him for him and not for what I wanted. That is amazing writing and eye opening.

Okay so I've recently beat dragon age Inquisition. It was amazing. But I can't help but feel that bioware took something away from me in that game. I understand the intentions of the developers. Dorian is by far one of the most complex and realistic characters yet. In my opinion that is. They made a truly fantastic being. I could read a book about Dorian's life. My inquisitor made such a connection with him and he named me his friend. Which is awesome. But I feel left out because my female inquisitor was a female. And Dorian is gay. I feel like the game wasn't as good because I couldn't let my female be with who she clicked with. This isn't just about Dorian. What about if a guy inquisitor felt sera was the one he wanted but couldn't get simply because of gender. Does anyone else feel like they were cheated a great story because of this? I under stand it's a game but I feel it was both an amazing this that bioware did but also a bad thing. Let me know your opinion so I know I'm not alone.

Not really, as a female inq player mostly, I get Cullen and a lot of people can't unless they roll a female. Dorian is a great character, would I like to romance him with a female...of course I would, but unfortunately he wasn't made that way, but he is a great bff for my ladies and they love him just the way he is.

All this really means is that BioWare has to look at the romances that people were really disappointed about (Cassandra, Dorian, Cullen, and Sera seem to be the biggest ones) and figure out what it was about those that worked so well that everyone wants them. The others were filler\lackluster\not interesting\whatever and in that regard, quality is really more important than quantity.

Next time instead of trying to put so many in, work with the formulas that were most popular and really develop a smaller cast of characters. I don't care that there's four different guys for my inquisitor to try (laying aside for a moment my personal preferences) because out of the gate three of them are so uninteresting (Blackwall, Bull, Solas) that I'm never doing flirt one with them.

I think Blackwall's romance was pretty good, definitely my second favourite after Cullen. Bull's is more light and casual (on the surface) kind of like Zevran's and Solas' would have been great had it been more consistant..too many huge gaps.

I think they did pretty well with the romances considering there were so many, of the ones I know of that is. They tried to get in as much variation to suit everyone, I think it's just down to personal preference and having some shut off from certain characters that disappoints many, but they tried the all for one approach in DA2 and that didn't go down too well.

I know, and I still don't see what the big deal was. Not entirely out of the realm of possibility that 4 people in an entire city might be bi, but ok.

People get weird about weird things. Like it's a personal affront. Insult or whatever. I just don't see it and for my part, I was perfectly ok with the four we got in DA2. This game I have really mixed feelings about. Nice to be represented. Not thrilled it's a character like Sera. Wouldn't really care if they went back to not representing my kind in such an exclusive way. I know others don't feel the same way.

*shrugs* I think I'm getting too old for this ****, probably.

I didn't mind either approach to be honest but I can understand that both ways do bug different people in different ways and it's a shame that there is no way to please all.

*Probably they should have toned down a bit on extreme personalities for the groups that do get represented the least if only to not imply sterotypes. In a group that's represented the most it's not so obvious because there is always some variations. So I understand you there.

You are not getting old, I have the same opinion I did all the romances in DA 2. DA:I only Josephine, Sera and Dorian, the others I saw it on youtube (not blackwall because I found it kinda boring, not even youtube did it for me lol).

I prefer the system of DA 2, if Sera is the only representation I get too.

Wait, really?  People are disappointed about these ones?   I thought those were some of the more popular romances among the fanbase?  Well, I don't know about Sera but the others seem pretty popular and well liked.   Unless you are saying these are the ones people like?

I think they are saying they are the more popular ones so they should be looked at to see what makes them work.

I was saying these are the four that people seem most disappointed in being gated out of. These were the big hits. My post could have been clearer. You're right. Ironically, as I'm looking at it, it's exactly two males and two females.

I see a pattern.

Or Bioware should just keep making the romances the way they want, because they aren't mention to cater to specific people's taste

I don't believe that. If that were true, they wouldn't have such a range of different characters. Clearly they are targeting specific markets with these options, but I'm not certain they are going about it the right way.

We can sit here and argue about artistic integrity and such all day long, but in the end BioWare does indeed have a bottom line. More popular games with options people enjoy will mean continued (and more) sales. It's just good business to look at what worked and try to build on that.

I shouldn't have made this my first topic. Because I now agree with a lot of what's being said. But I can't figure out how to delete this. So let's make it clear. I now agree that he's damn awesome the way he is.

I dunno, just because people live on this forum and have heard it a thousand times doesn't mean you can't have a good rant.  People are upset they can't get into Cullen's pants.  The heart and nethers want what they want.

You could play as a guy, ya know, if you like him that much.  I like having him as my bestie.  It's Varric I've been after the last two games and ALWAYS denied.

You're a product customer you're allowed to be disappointed.  I was incredibly upset that the options for straight women included Nosferatu and Baphomet until I played the game a little more.  Now I like Bull.  Still wish he looked like the Arishok, but whatevs.  He's cool.,

Each characters romance fit their character

Whether those characters or their romance clicks with the player shouldn't be a major issue to Bioware

It is sort of interesting that Josephine and Bull, the two character they had open to everyone, are the romances that get the least amount of interest and praise other than maybe Blackwall.

Isabella was hot, imo.  A pirate?  I mean, if you want a lesbian option what's wrong with a pirate that looks a bit like wonder woman.  Sera is "cute" but, she's no Isabella.

No shade to those that love Sera.

It's always going to come down to personal preferences, though. I'm in no hurry to get around to romancing Solas, but he seems to have a large and enthusiastic fanbase. Meanwhile, I love Iron Bull and you will tear my Blackwall romance from my cold, dead hands.

I love Bull but he looks like a one-eyed demon.  Some people are into one-eyed demons if they have a great personality.  I'm a little shallow.  I like sexual intercourse to not look like a scene from Rosemary's Baby.  Just me, yo.

Promiscuity notwithstanding, as a character I liked her a lot as well. I liked Merrill more as a romantic option, but Isabela was definitely someone I'd hit the bar with.

I always thought those two would be very popular romance options. Not so much now...
