Promiscuity notwithstanding, as a character I liked her a lot as well. I liked Merrill more as a romantic option, but Isabela was definitely someone I'd hit the bar with.
Don't **** shame. Isabella is just a liberated pirate babe.

I always thought those two would be very popular romance options. Not so much now...
Same. I was really looking forward to both of them before the game came out. They just did not turn out as I hoped they would.

Not agreeing with lifestyle =/= shaming said lifestyle.

Depends on how you "disagree" with it.

Very true, but the way the poster did it was not shaming in nature.

I actually really enjoyed Josie's romance. It's just that their popularity isn't as big as I'd anticipated.

I was actually really looking forward to Bull's romance, and made a femQunari for him. I just went cold on the idea when I started though and I'll be honest and say he's probably the only character I won't romance. As for Josie, she's too vanilla for my tastes (and I'll be blunt and say some of the fans put me off the romance) but I have a dorky male dwarf playthrough planned (initially for Cass) but I'm thinking that he and Josie would be all kinds of sweet together, it depends on how it all goes down though.
As for Dorian, I wish people would stop undervaluing the friendship angle with Dorian, or doing the opposite and going over the top (gay bff!! LOL OMG GEE) My femquisitor likes Dorian a lot and appreciates the sacrifices he's made to come to the inquisition and leave Tevinter (even if it was mostly for personal reasons). I romanced him on my latest playthrough with my male Lavellan and it was incredibly sweet and touching.
I never felt left out. In real life, if you "clicked" with a gay guy, you'd be out of luck too. Take Dorian's sexuality away and (as he said himself) he "wouldn't be the same Dorian."
If you want to be with him, make a male character and try to experience the game again through his eyes. I'm a heterosexual female and had no problem whatsoever immersing myself in the story of a male.
P.S. - I love Dorian!

Those people are terrible.
(to Despair Demon) Nah, he totally twirls his mustache and laughs evilly. He is just terribly at coming up with schemes more horrible than borrowing one of the books from the library and never returning it... even after he has read it!
Can I just say that it is.... quite odd being on the other side of this situation for once.
We have an awesome gay companion (finally), and some straight players want a heterosexual romance with him.
Up until DA:I, there have only been LI's restricted from gay romance. (DA:O).

That's like cool but you realize people have emotions and sexual preferences right down to looks and that even "cartoon" characters can be sexy (hellooooo, spidey and iceman!) so there will be people who are disappointed they can't romance the most physically appealing male in the game (traditional sense of appealing) who is also pretty funny and charismatic. That's just how it is. Its why gay guys get straight guy crushes and girls get crushes on their gay best friends. Its like...life and stuff.
As for the gay bff...that's sounds a bit "judge-y" of people, I think.
I haven't yet heard anyone refer to him as "Will" just their battle buddy. That he's gay doesn't make him your Balenciaga bag. I'm totally psyched to have him with me because he's funny, hot, and I've leveled the hell out of him in two really great magic trees.

It happens. Doesn't make it bad that people want him anymore than it makes people bad that they wanted Alastair.
Also, I didn't think Anders or Fenris were restricted from gay romances. I think I stupidly romanced Anders as a dude in DA2 until I realized he was a ****** psycho

Me either (playing a male) but at the same time, I've kinda made some of these characters "real" in my head and it feels like I would be cheating Dorian to romance him or something. Weird, yes. He's my velveteen rabbit.
Honestly, Dorian felt like the least interesting character. He was stereotyped so much into his sexuality that there was literally nothing else. Even Blackwall, as cliche as his story was, had more than that.

I can't....

I don't get it. How is there literally nothing else, when the vast bulk of Dorian's dialogue involves Tevinter, and how the Venatori and Corypheus make it a whole lot worse. The stuff about his sexuality exists solely within his personal quest, and it's never a point of discussion again. Among the companions, he actually has some of the most relevant dialogue to the story.

Now just imagine how that would feel if the vast, vast majority of media romance made you feel left out.

I can understand this to a point..it just sucks when you're not represented well.. but that aside, if you just take story quality on it's own merits, why feel emotionally left out?
I could still appreciate a lot of gay character stories.. just depends on the quality. Some people like to make fun of Brokeback Mountain, but I actually teared up at the end. I also wanted Celene and Briala back together here. Disfunctional as it is, I think their feelings/relationship was real.. and they could do good with each other.
OP, thank you for not outlaying some demented plot to murder him just because he doesn't romance women. I'm still feeling shock from the Sera thread.
That said, I'm glad that there are exclusively gay characters or characters with distinct preferences, so they don't all end up playersexual. Of course, there are some choices I wish were universally available but it ultimately makes for more complicated characters in the end.

You must not know tumblr.
Suffice to say the gay bff trope isn't vastly overused but it's quite annoying to see it pop up in various fanfictions and even in some fanart (I personly loathe it)
I interchange Dorian and Solas (especially early on as Solas seems a lot better but with levelling, Dorian is great.)
I like romances that can be gated to gender & races (if relative to that character and lore) over the DA:2 approach as it gives of a more "realistic" view and approach on sexuality and romance. I can see why people prefer that approach over the new approach used in Inquisition for various reasons.
I get that sucks you can't romance you favourite character with your preferred gender or race.
It also made me use Inquisitors that I wouldn't normally just so I could romance certain characters for example a female Elf for Solas which prior to release had no interest in using a female elf Inquisitor as I was favouring a Human , Dwarf & Qunari over a Elf for a female Inquisitor.
Lets be happy there isn't even more criteria for romance such as quest choices, class and that character usage in the party, I remember in Baldur's Gate 2 to romance Jaheira she had to be in your party all the time unless for quest reasons.
