inquisition had many returning chars some of them had cameo roles others had bigger roles. what chars you want to see in future installments (DLC, expension, dragon age 4, etc...). no need to limit yourselves to chars from games, chars from books, comics and other dragon age stuff.

sandal - that just pissed me off that he didn't spear in inquisition, it's not a dragon age game without the happy dwarf saying "enchantment?"

oghren - that just goes without saying, we want more oghren!

shale - also goes without saying.

isabela - i think a char who potentially have slept with both the hero of ferelden and the champion of kirkwall should spear more. just saying ;)

alisitair - specificly drunk alistair (though he likely not drunk by that time) i am curious what happend to him. but generally more alistair regardless of his faith (unless he is dead i guess).

minsc - sorry wrong game.

rhys and evengeline - i liked them both in the books and will be nice to see them in game and i also hope they will reunite with cole.

varric

josie -  cause... it's josie!

merrill - she is just so sweet and wee! :D

harding - i like her and hope she will not only return but return as a companion.

sten - if we get one scene of him saying "no" i can die a happy person.

the warden (from origins) - well i just miss them and hope they will return. hopefully with the ability to control their dialogue choices but like hawe is ok as long as we get to choose their personality.

there are of course many other great chars i want return but if i will post them all the list will never end so i posted those i think bioware should give priority to.

your turn.

But Fenris needs to show up, too. Especially if we go to Tevinter sometime soon :)

Shale was my overall favourite character of any Bioware game I've played (never played KOTOR) she also had one of the funniest lines about not wanting to be in the final battle incase she got eaten up and pooped out. I genuinely laughed out loud.

Im not a massive fan of having characters return just for the sake of it, if a character comes back it needs to make sense.

So my vote is for Isabela, she isnt tied to any plot points placing her anywhere specific and is a well travelled seafarer so has a reason to turn up in far away places.

Hopefully in Tevinter - do it Bioware, you know you want to.

oh I agree with it have to make sense but lots of plots that can give a reason to bring a char back.

Not sure I want any of the companions in-game again. It'd be fine like getting the letters, but too much could be screwed up.

I have nothing against NPCs like Sandal etc.

Buuuut if well done, and we really go to Tevinter in the next game, Dorian would be a must for me.

Essentially, if the character has a very good reason to come back, I wouldn't mind at all, but I don't want anyone returning for the sake of just showing up randomly somewhere.

We probably will go to tevinter in DA4, but somehow the focus will be darkspawn (I hope)..

But I agree with past characters part of your section especially. If this were mass effect and we had the same main character i'd be all for it though.. But each time we get a new protagonist we get new characters to work with them. I wouldn't mind if the old characters made small cameos or something.

Ahh.. Morrigan<3

Oh and, Harding as a LI in DA4? yes? Minsc LOL op you get my like :D

Darkspawn would totally be great!

And yes, Morrigan! Imo she is a great example how to perfectly tie in a character to the story, her drive to discover more about ancient magic and preserving the wonders in this world made her perfect for the elven temple and the eluvians.

So hopefully we'll get something like that in the future again :)

I don't like cameos for the sake of cameos (ugh, Mass Effect, though DA2 was bad for this too), so I think they need a good reason to be there. A lot of the folks you name in the OP could potentially have good reasons for showing up, though. I think not having Hawke's romance present at all was a huge missed opportunity.

I'd like to see Isabela, Merrill, and Anders again.

I will say that it would be really neat for a Cadash inquisitor to travel to Tevinter and somehow meet up with a de-golemed Shale.

For me it's always Alistair. I will never get tired of seeing him.

Then I'd like to see Morrigan again. I believe that she is still important for the greater storyline. And so is Solas, so I definitely want to see him again. And maybe Flemeth.

Also, I wouldn't mind to see Harding as a companion in the next game.

I want Bioware to surprise me - regardless how they do it! I just want it to make sense and I want to get fresh things. All this ... "ah do you remember him and her" ... it has to be well implemented for the story. I don't want the game to drag the cameos along. That is boring. I am confident Bioware can do all sorts of things. So I really don't know. But ...

... something for laughs and giggles - I do enjoy!

1. I don't care for Minsc all that much ... but "Boo" on the other hand  ... I want a Hamster as a pocket companion for DA4!

(Or a talking rat or something like that ... to carry in my pocket! Something small but impactful ^_^)

2. I liked "Mad Hermit" from Origins!

Spoiler

3. And I loved the talking tree from Origins ... "The Grand Oak"

I would like Isabella and Merril. I doubt they make die-able character appear, that would mess whole dragonkeep and game story. That would mean no Wynne, no Alistar, no Warden and no Shale.

Loghain... I know he's had the capacity to die in like 2 games already, so his likelihood of returning is dwindling, but man i loved seeing him inquisition.

And flemith, she's way too underused.

She'd make a great antagonist.

Oh, and the architect! And broodmothers too.

Wade and Harren, sandal

Alistair (warden and king) and anora

Shale

Leliana

Josephine

cassandra

Solas

cullen

Sigrun if she's still alive

zevran

bhelen and harromont (dwarves in general really)

Above all, as a playable character, the warden (with dialogue changes for new pcs for people who don't want, or who have certain wardens who died). I want to find the source of the calling and the darkspawn, I want to see the remaining magisters and some true archdemons.

Darkspawn society would be interesting, even viewed from a distance.

Shale

Sigrun

Isabela

Aveline

Carver

Anders

Cassandra

Dorian

Vivienne

Josephine

Sera

(And I've had enough for Morrigan, Leliana, Alistair, and Cullen. Time for them to take a break and leave some cameos for everyone else.)

For story reasons:

Sandal: Definitely so many unanswered questions and so few hints given.

Solas: HE HAS TO

Morrigan: I still feel as if her role in the story isn't over, mainly because of her connection to Flemeth/Mythal. Has that connection passed to Solas? Hmmm.

Anders: Well, even though most of my world states have him as dead as a nail in an orphan's end table, I'm really curious about what's happened to him in the aftermath of what he's done.

Divine Victoria: In my case that's either Leliana or Cassandra

For personal (I love them) reasons:

Dorian, Fenris, anyone whose last name is Hawke, Varric, non-Divine Cassandra, Nathaniel, the Inquisitor

I got DAI spoilers, of course.

Kieran! Maybe after a timeskip and some hindsight he could gather? I almost dare to expect him to return, and there being a problem if he's not there helping to solve it. He seems likeable, and I overall like how my more empathetic and thoughtful wardens seemed to be wrong! I think it'd be fair to have to deal with consequences.

Sandal, because the whole thing feels like a cliffhanger at the moment. And he's sympathetic. (And I always wish meeting a surprise shopkeeper in dungeons and areas where your inventory may get full.) Not everything even has to be explained, but I wish he won't just disappear.

I can't believe how long and well Loghain has survived if you let him survive in the first place. (And second.) How brilliant it would be if that keeps up.

Grand oak and his mad hermit. I'd also love to know what happened to Ruck, if alive.

Divine Victoria

If there has to be Alistair, drunk!Alistair is my Alistair, and while not knowing if he'll ever have anything new to offer aside repeating what we already saw in DA2, I'm rooting for him to last longer than other Alistairs.

Fenris and Dorian maybe, especially in same scene.

Finn impressed me at the time for not overlapping with other DAO characters. I wonder whatever happened to him.

But if I had to choose, I'd prefer all attention on new characters... I think.

HoF might get to write a letter to us at most (there could be line options imitating the dialogue style of DAO, an animation of a hand, no need for voice actor), but otherwise I wish they get to rest in peace or get their freedom.

None. I'd like brand new ones. I have kind of stopped caring about the characters after all the cartoony animations.
