Why am I here looking for a regular group in a game that randomly matches you to a open game session thats already in play?

Because the system puts you into the first match it finds and it doesn't say the game can't already be in progress.

You can set up private rooms, set up a pw and boom people you meet here or friends can join, it is not random that way.

If you don't want to join a game already in play, start a new one and others with join you.
