All those speakers, yet you still can't hear the footsteps of the A-bombs until it's too late.

I use headphones, which should be better, and you still get me.

There's this new thing, called a "laptop". It's designed to be portable. You should consider one :D

I am stationary so I have no use for portable laptop :D So far I have to take the the PC to the market only once few months ago when previous motherboard crapped out. Had to show those shop owner repair guys that it was a fault with the motherboard. For that all other components of PC had to be same.

Besides laptops are overpriced for the performance they give IMO

DOS is OP. Microsoft, pls.

Dosbox FTW. You can relive the oldskool era with "sound"

I was kidding about the laptop part. Although they are no longer overpriced for the performance. It's hard to build a PC to compete with most mid-range laptops on price, especially since they come with keyboard and screen included.

LOL@DosBox, I ran that in a VM on my Debian cluster a few years ago. It was a hoot.

A gaming laptop with good specs will cost upwards of 2000 USD and will offer lower performance than a desktop built for that amount due to lower frequencies laptop components run. A GTX980M will give performance in between a GTX960  and 970 of desktop. Same goes for processor. Laptops CPU are clocked 1000-1500MHz lower than desktops of same gen. That's why I still consider laptops overpriced. If one does gaming then he/she sacrifices a lot of performance/eye candy for mobility.

That price perspective is not entirely accurate. Also, I don't claim that laptops will outperform desktops. But even the upper low end of gaming laptops will run ME3MP at 60fps in full HD with all eye candy turned on. And we're talking not much over $1000 at current prices.

The upper end of gaming laptops is the pretty silly zone, since they cost more than a decent desktop setup and are no more portable :D

Having had the opportunity of playing this game on both peasant laptop and custom built pc, I must say that there is no big difference in performance.

High-end gaming laptops look pretty silly, imo. I like my laptops slim and portable.

Not to mention the price... If I were to spend 3k on a whim, I would rather build a pc from scratch.  ^_^

Nice to see more PrinsesBG on here :)

There's a real range of performance over different machines, but beyond a certain amount it doesn't improve the game experience.

As for building your own, even that isn't really economical, one only does that to get exactly what one wants. But some of the prebuilts are pretty damn well balanced these days. Here are some that you can buy and take home and hook up that would be hard to build for much less:

And it would make for a great battlestation pic to post in this thread :D

There is no denying that it looks nice, but with all the parts packed tightly together in order to save space, it won't be upgradeable.
I would like to be able to customize more than just lights. The price seems reasonable though. :D

It's not as tightly packed as you would think from the pictures. I pulled the side panel off one at my local FNAC recently and had a look around the inside. They saved space and thermal load by equipping dual external power supplies. And of course, they make far more conventionally designed and cased models in that range.

If I post much more in this thread I'm going to need to post pictures of my plants....

There are two things very wrong with that PC. Not nitpicking just thinking out loud. :D

#1 PC Chassis although its look quite dandy and has good design as well colours etc but its too small. Components inside will run at higher temperature and will have shorten lifetime.

#2 They have cheaped out on motherboard selection. H97 chipset isnt good. They should be going for a Z series chipset preferrably one with more memory slots as well as overclocking support. AFAIK H97 chipset wont offer much to overclockers. Even if somebody manages to get it done CPU and nearby chipsets will overheat coz of too small Chassis with not much support for extra fans or water cooling options.

These are some of the reasons I prefer DIY instead of prebuilt PC
