I dont think anyone does, but some of these groups have managed to hitch themselves onto the LBGT+ bandwagon and are making everyone look like idiots. Hence why the pronoun stuff is such a mess now.

If transgender is seen as a joke, its only possible because its actually a prevalent thing. Prevalent enough that people know what it is, anyway. Still shouldn't be seen as a joke though, at least in my opinion. I can't understand it on a personal level as I'm cisgendered(dude born a dude who feels and acts like a dude), but I'm open minded enough to understand it is a thing.

No, I mean there is the concept that gender (not even just its roles, but gender itself) is a social construct. One that can be broken down and turned into something else, with enough social effort.

 

So in a potential future where that is done, and few think in terms of male and female anymore, a 'transgender' is barely a thing (what's it turning into? what's the big binary  'from ___, to ___' going on?). Transsexual is more of the physical (and less mental) nature, so that's require efforts more relating to easier and better physical changes (better surgeries, etc).

 

So I'm just talking about a hypothetical future, one that probably terrifies a lot of social conservatives or even moderates, but whatever. (I'm fairly neutral on most of these matters by themselves.)

 

In our current world, I completely understand transgender as not a joke. I was only commenting (with the bad wording I sometimes use, sorry!) on how future society MAY see transgenderism, even if it would be decades or even centuries from now. What is a 'man' thing, and what is a 'woman' thing? These are often still easily defined by cultures, but get newer technologies and allowance of more imaginations and personal identities in society involved and... well, I'll just say I'm bracing for newer and stranger gender conflicts over this century.

I actually have a friend who identifies as demisexual. When I first saw her use it, it was the first time I'd ever heard of it. I thought it odd, because in theory you could be that and any other sexuality but asexual.

I dont see why you're stuck up on transethnic when tumbler thinks that otherkin and headmates are real diagnosis of the human condition. I mean people think they are animal spirits and demand to be recognized as such.

 

If anything that's making the issue of pronouns a joke and giving the trans community a bad name.

 

My position on that is that I require proof.

 

Until such a time, that person claiming to be an animal spirit better get an education and do some science to either find evidence of animal spirits, or advance technology to the point where we can witness such things that would act and look like animal spirits. Or if it is in their mind, then either wait for or pursue advancements to see in the mind, or peer into the soul, and discover the animal spirit. I retain the right to be skeptical.

 

At least as a gay guy I can prove (beyond a reasonable doubt) that I'm gay by kissing another guy and staying with him for 4 years. And I could prove it with more but get out of our bedroom please that's creepy. Those wanting to classify that as illness, for example, will have and for decades have had their work cut out for them by trying to find proof enough to convince society to intervene with our lives, lol.

IMHO, I think tech can enable anything to happen. Anything. Including even simulations of the past that let us have /d/ be true in '2015'. Or even time travel or something equivalent (as there may be no 'time' to travel per se) that does the same, and no one would even know there was different. Gross, huh?

Yeah, I've got nothing against the demisexual distinction, I just think it should be paired with whatever other one is in play.

 

Like, if you say you're demisexual, what does that say for your attraction to men and women? Is it open like bisexuality and pansexuality is?

Ultimately transgender may be seen as more of a joke, but gender roles are so often so ingrained in us that we can give it much more of a pass. Race and ethnicity we have history going "Yeah this stuff can easily be understood as a mish mash of everything".

 

But really the 'trans' anything (even transhuman eventually?) may just be part of the reveals that omg, we're just a bunch of atoms omg omg and can actually transform into other things if we understand matter enough omg.

 

There's more of a physiological (brain chemistry/hormones) explanation for people that are actually transgendered. Unfortunately, we also have the delusional crowd jumping onto the bandwagon as well corrupting the issue. 

 

There's a difference between gender roles and biological sex. In most cases, transgendered people have the brain chemistry of the opposite sex. Which is explained by being exposed to different chemicals/hormones while in the womb.

If anyone is in the mood to never sleep again (and cry, because it's the single most tragic story in the history of mankind), I urge you to look up David Reimer. He is evidence, if not outright proof, that gender (not sex, gender) is not societal. Not anymore societal than being gay or straight.

Clarification: gender ROLES are a social construct, as they differ between societies. Gender itself (as in, someone identifying as male or female) is inherent to the person in the same manner as them being gay or straight, or black or white, etc.
