The optional rescue the Warden's from Fort Dracon is the only example I feel I need to bring forth.

Every single companion combination is pure comedy gold. Double score for anything with Sten. Off the charts laughter seizure if you pair Sten with Oghren ...

Attempting to make Dog fight the duel for all of ferelden was fun.

I love the Zevran + Oghren combination as well.

Don't know if they pull of Obsidian humour tho'

That stuff is more crazy

Yeah, there hasn't been a game that tops Alpha Protocol in laughs for me.

Edit: To clarify, I'm not just talking about Bioware games here, but games in general.

BioWare is one of the developers out there, that does comedy best IMO.

Why? Because they don't go for all-out silliness but rather plant comedic scenes carefully.

Personally, I am not very amused by games that are all-out comedic (nope, not even the old Lucas Arts adventures). It's too much for me and usually just gets me to chuckle a little but that's it. Especially the newer "funny" franchises, like Borderlands and such do not appeal to me at all.

However, when BioWare makes their games, they usually make them rather serious, like Mass Effect or Dragon Age. The great thing is, that in this serious setting, you can establish characters very well, that are actually meaningful because they are not just there for their goofiness. Then, when these characters pull of a joke, that is ten times more funny to me than if some weird cartoon character does it that was just created for the purpose.

I am not saying they always get it completely right but BW games are probably the ones that gave me the most literal laugh-out-loud moments in gaming.

Dragon Age: Origins had some pretty comical scenes especially when concerning dialogue kills:

(This scene is funny because the guy runs into the back room which has no exit...not exactly a great escape tactic)

(This scene takes the cake due to the dialogue of the player character and then how he performs the kill)

(Although the scene below is pretty hilarious too due to Genitivi's reaction when you say that he will die and then how he turns around and looks at you after you throw the knife in the back of his head, I just wasn't expecting that)

And yes of course there's all the dialogue scenes from Oghren, Alistair and Zevran which are funny but many of the murder knife scenes do it for me, they are unintentionally hilarious and put the icing on the cake.

Mass Effect 2 had some funny scenes too. Haven't played ME3 yet but Inquisition forced comedy at times which I didn't like.

It depends on the time of day. If you try to get a meatball when no one else is around, then you can get a decent size. But if you try during peak times, then you may go hungry.

Sometimes. They have a bit of over-reliance on snark at times, and are weakest when it comes to meta-humor. Sometimes self-referential jokes are well done when they aren't taking themselves seriously (Mass Effect's Citadel DLC), but other times it's just weak.

Cheesy one-liners aside, though, Renegade Shepherd (and Angry Hawke) get some of the best jokes.

Sarcatic Hawke remains the funniest thing that Bioware's ever produced.

Struggling to think of any game company that does it better, especially given that they aren't writing comedies as such

Comedy is hard to do and Bioware gets it right more often then most.

I was trying hard to find an appropriate response for this and I think you hit the nail on the head.

BioWare does good comedy.

Whether it's intentional is another matter.

The 'felicitate me' scene was hilarious, though probably not in the way they intended.

I suppose at least they try, their main competitors in Bethesda and CDPR do things pretty dry. Even with a license with more potential for comedy and dark humour (Fallout), Bethesda didn't really have any genuine funny moments. Obsidian do alright and have proven they can do a comedic game (South Park), but they don't integrate too much humour into their games either.

King in the RPG genre is definitely Larian. Ironic because their storywriting is nothing if not long winded and dry. Still, definitely the best in the genre when it comes to writing comedy in "serious" games. Gothic era Piranha Bytes also had their moments, partly due to the snarky nature of the protagonist.
