It's been I believe a year or two since I first started my ME3 playthrough I was an adept (yawn) I know lol but I thought it was fun. However that fun was short lived , real life things happened and I had to put my playthrough on hold. It got to the point where I had no idea what was going on and so I scraped that playthrough till I play through the series again.
Well that day has finally come
I finally made it to ME3 again as a Soldier. Since my absense from the series ME3 has alot more DLC now , 50$ worth.....geez >.> my question too you all is when should I buy the DLC? in ME2 when I bought the Arrival DLC I had to listen to Hackett much earlier then I wanted too.
I am planning on buying all the DLC I just want to know which ones makes sense during the story and which ones make sense after the story. (still know nothing about ME3 besides the ending....and that's cause of youtube ranters >.>)
Finally back in ME3 but when should I buy the DLC?

You don't have the option to play after the ending like in ME2.
Leviathan adds to the ending and has a nice atmosphere overall
Omega is much more combat-oriented and should've been in the game right from the start IMO - gives necessary closure for Terminus fleets.
From Ashes adds a new squadmate (who may be the only biotic other than Liara if you saved Ashley and are not a biotic yourself) with a unique world outlook. If you don't like him then the DLC is not really worth it IMO. I do like him (as evidenced by my signature) ![]()
Citadel DLC adds needed levity in the time of war and depression of ME3. It's essentially a fan service DLC but its a lot of fun to play.
Extended Cut is free and is a must IMO.

Depending on which ones you plan on buying:
Get "From Ashes" first since it make sense to do it early on (like just after getting Garrus). It adds a team mate that will have a great deal of dialogue to add in between each mission.
The other DLCs can be delayed until after the Citadel Coup. So no need to get them right away. These would include Omega and Leviathan.
The Citadel DLC can be put off until after Sanctuary.

I played through ME3 without having any of the DLCs at first. After the ending I downloaded all of them because I wanted more and didn't want the journey to end ![]()
Citadel is a must if you want to have a lot of fun during a time where the war is taking its toll on everyone. It was exactly what I needed at that point. I'm playing towards the end a second time now and I would play this right before the point of no return in my next run.
From Ashes should be done asap to benefit more from this character.
Currently I'm playing Omega and next time I would play it as soon as it's available in the game.
Leviathan could also be done whenever you have access to it I guess. On the other hand it could be delayed a bit because it has to do a bit with the ending, so it's more fresh in your memory if you do it at a later point.

You can't play any DLC after the ending (though the game will put you right back before the last mission).
Definitely get yourself From Ashes (if you already haven't),Omega and Leviathan.
Regarding the story placement....From Ashes should be done as soon as it becomes available (through email),Omega after the Citadel Coup, and you should start the Citadel after Rannoch.
Leviathan on the other hand, imo, should be spread throughout the story. Start it after the Citadel Coup, play a mission or two,do Rannoch, play a mission/two again,go to Thessia, and then finish right after that. It fits in best that way.
