Seriously, for a game about armies, there are no armies in DAI.
Ostagar is still fantastic, even if the tech is getting a little out of date. Cinematic scenes affecting the world as you move through it, heavy emphasis on story, and it didn't need a map like the hinterlands to do it (a map so big and fileld with fetch quests that the dev had to tweet about leaving it so people wouldn't give up).
I wish I'd see some evidence of the wars in Thedas... something. Even the rifts seem to have no impact on the areas around them, or the few npcs living there.
Nothing even comes out of them except for when i walk up... i mean i'm told they do, but i never see it.
The battle of Ostagar... DAI needs something like this.

*goosebumps* - even still. That short film evokes so much emotion in itself. Must play again once I've finished my play through of DAI. ![]()

THIS. I wanted something like this to happen to Skyhold, before we faced Cory. A cool battle that took your choices into account. If we sided with the mages we see them fight alongside the soldiers, same with the templars. The cinematic would be different for each. When the enemy reached Skyhold's walls the amount of people that died depended on how much you upgraded the castle's defenses. I would have liked the ability to assign roles to party members to protect Skyhold as well. THEN the confrontation with cory would happen and it wouldn't have felt so bleh.

I agree with this. Though I loved the Inquisition Marches cutscene (when you go into the Arbor Wilds and the Temple of Mythal), there should have been more than just seeing Josie frantically writing at her desk and the advisors placing flags on the war table. Near the end, you see Cullen march the army into the field. When you get there, there's siege engines and everything. And yet, once you have control of your character, there's NOTHING. There's about 3 battles with about 10 enemies each and that's it until you reach the temple and that's it.
Once that's done and you're ready to face Cory, he just so happens to appear at your door and poof! you're battling him... "Where's Corypheus? His dragon must come and go from somewhere.. *BOOM*. ooooh nevermind, there he is. Well, that makes it easy! Oh, seems like ALL of his demons and ALL of his red templars and venatori aren't there to help him either! Yay! Easy battle!"

I already got that epic feel when we first see the ruins of the Sacred Ashes Temple. Defending Haven from the Elder One also added to that. They could have had more scenes when we gather at the Arbor Wilds, but the active fight was good enough.

You know what I like about this scene ? I've seen it for like a million times and I still get chicken skin after the "For Ferelden" moment. ![]()
I think that 50%+ of this scene's epicness is because of the music.
Everytime I look at this scene and the way the darkspawn were designed, I always get the feeling Bioware was inspired by LOTR a lot.
And it reminded me of this scene from Return of the King:

So yeah... DAI lacks in this regard quite a lot... You always hear about how big your Inquisition is, but you never feel that or see how big it actually is. All in all I think that they tried giving us epic moments like in DAO, and they came pretty close sometimes, but I also think that trying to hard to be like DAO isn't a good idea either.

A sense of epicness is something bioware does well, but it Was fairly absent here in a lot of places. Much of the game just didn't seem to matter. Especially the wilderness.
Like fighting the Templars in the snow map... Zero impact on the world. Nothing in that map affected anything actually.

I agree! The battle of Haven is very similar to Ostagar in terms of epic feelings, at least it felt like that for me. Adamant got me pumped like never before in a DA game, and I think this is the music's fault
I loved loved loved this music, then towards the end when the dragon is flying around you, it was so cool.
But yeah, Ostagar will also remain one of my favourite parts ever, I still get goosebumps every time.

Indeed - and it would explain why he has no ARMY left (one could say he risked it all in the assault an a - well prepared - Skyhold and only he escaped the slaughter!)

ps: I have started up DA:O again...it felt in a way like coming home after a long trip
(makes me dislike DA:I more though -.-)

For me, it's all about the little things too. Like the calm before the storm, the darkspawn quietly appearing involved in a mist. Like that man, seeing the darkspawn and backing away slowly in fear, or even in the final battle in Denerim where you see that man saying goodbye to his wife and son. In Inquisition we only see a few soldiers going into battle to the Arbor Wilds, but I felt nothing at that point because for some reason they don't feel like real people to me. And this happened throughout the whole game. All the NPCs feel like robots, like they have no lives of their own, no emotions, and consequently, I don't care for them. That didn't happen in Origins. I've played that game countless of times and I still get goosebumps. It makes me really sad that Inquisition had so much potential to give us these little epic/sad moments, but it fell so short.

Arbor wilds was disappointing. It's a few groups of guys duking it out, you don't see the armies, you ehar about how there was this epic battle that wiped out all corypheus' men, and you don't get to participate barely at all.
Adamant was solid, but once you got past the cutscenes there was like none of your troops inside.

This. It just feels impersonal. And after such a long time of not playing oriigns, seeing that guy back up in fear and the other guys top him, on that engine, back then, was mind blowing.
The wilds din't have that, it was just a few encounters like any other.

The end of adamant was pretty sweet. That and haven were both great.
The wilderness though, huge maps, no npcs, at best a requisition officer in each camp and one or two guys you can't even interact with.

This is one of the Gems of DAO. I've replayed it any number of times, as it just sets the tone of things so well. The hopeful tone at first, the music as they pan acoss the soldiers lined up to battle the personification of evil, the preists walking among the soldiers, with blessings and burning incense; then the music turns sinister as the darkspawn begin to emerge from the forest. Then fear of the soldiers... the standoff... then the charge of the darkspawn, when they pan across the running genlocks and hurlocks passing the massive ogre, you're just like WTF, this is going to be bad.
The rest is done so well, the archers, then the war dogs... leading to Cailin's order to charge. The music here is perfect as the chaos of the battle rages, then as DS artilery (lack of a better word) crashing into the tower, then the camera pulls back... showing your Novice GW kneedeep in the middle of this insanity was just so awesome. Neither DA2 or DAI has a scene like this. Haven scratches the surface, but IMHO the 3 best scenes like this are 1) Battle of Ostagar; 2) The Wardens attacking Denirim and 3) DAI's Haven Battle.

Yeah, unfortunately that was kinda disappointing, lots of running around only and barely anything interesting. Should definitely have been more epic since it's so close to the end and they could've build it up more for this. So much wasted potential.

sorry but i disagree at that point . i was meeting hawk and many inquisition soldier they was fighting on the roofs and the walls from adamant.i had the mission to kill the enemys until more inquisition soldiers are able to climb up the ladder to get also over and on the walls.i had to defend much ladder before the enemy could destroy them.that all happend past the cutcenes.on my way to the warden i was meeting fighting inquisition soldiers too .
about the arbor wilderness.. the first camp where you spawn is a huge one with many npc s..tents and siege machines.josephine was there as well and also the queen of orlais...i was able to interact with them like also with harding but thats it....

This is arguably the most epic moment in all of Dragon Age.
The Darkspawn look terrifying (and incredible). I can't understand why BioWare changed their appearance.
I even have to wonder if someone complained that they looked too similar to Tolkein or Warhammer orcs or something, and threatened to sue them, because otherwise, making Darkspawn look like lame skeletons doesn't add up.
