Usually it's exposure to multiple languages/dialects/accents. Their brains get good at separating the language (the message) from the auditory signal (the accent). Some people just have a talent for it I guess.
Unless that's the set up to a really good joke, in which case I already feel silly for being baited.
Nope, I was curious if you knew.
I've never had any issues understanding accents, and I had no idea for why that would be.

Damn, I would buy you shots and take you to a strip club.
I'd be game.
Yes! Exactly that. I worked on professional vocabulary with one of my clients for exactly that reason. He needed to be able to talk to his colleagues. And the point is people spend lots of time trying to correct how non English speakers pronounce difficult sounds like "th" or "r" and that's not really what's impeding communication, your brain fill that part in. It's usually waybigger picture. You only need to learn specific sounds if you're like accent training to be in a movie. I mean, Nic Cage has it down to a science.
I'm so glad you think it's relevant. Now I just have to pull the whole thing off in the next 2 months in order to graduate.
It definitely isn't just the vocabulary now that you pointed it out. I can't blame the other nurse for her communication. Her colleagues seem to understand her if she's been there for long. I think it comes along with the complexity of the vocabulary. I think we can fill in concepts for common terms like "tree" and "child." But, imagine trying to understand a foreign accent saying terms like "decortication of the right lung and drainage of lung abscess."
Hopefully, your research can create new suggestion and guidelines on communication. It'll help out a lot of clinicians.

There's a great BYOB strip near me. And by "great" I actually mean "has lots of c-section scars"
I also may have been banned from that establishment last time I was there. It's a little hazy.
Still, it's a cheap night out.

Sorry I don't have a better super scientific answer for it.
I'd be game.

That's cool Thanks for the input. It's way helpful for the direction of the project. We want someone to take it over next year.
