Its been stated that the series is about the Dragon Age as a whole instead of any specific person, so do you think they might have a significantly long time skip eventually? Do you think this would be a good idea? What changes to the world would it entail? old fashioned firearms and other such inventions? Changes in the political structure of the world?

All of a sudden going from swords and bows to firearms has always struck me as one of the hokiest ways a story can go, especially after a time jump. I've never seen it done right, it tends to come off as contrived when it's in a world with magic.

That being said, it would require gunpowder, which the Qunari guard so closely, they send assassins after anyone who gets close to making their own. Unless the world falls to the Qun, I doubt anyone will be getting handheld firearms anytime soon.

Easy there, I wasn't suggesting a complete change in the series; when firearms were first invented, they didn't see wide spread use and were considered Awesome but Impractical.

And I didn't say a time skip was a good idea, I was just asking other peoples opinions, trying to stir up conversation.

A new Blight should hold them back from progress.

I'd be really in favor, but I know it would upset a lot of hard-core supporters of the medieval stasis. Moving Dragon Age into a Renaissance like setting would be really awesome in my opinion. Gunpowder canons and perhaps a few steampunk elements here or there.

I like characters aging and dying, rulers/nations/political systems changing... how the races interact with each other, the place of magic and religion in society... I like that all of that is somewhat dynamic in DA, so sure, I'm all for an eventual timeskip where random NPCs reminisce about good ol' King Alistair/Queen Anora/Divine Victoria/Empress Celene/etc. when they've all been dead for several decades. :P

But I like the whole "medieval stasis"/anachronism stew set-up. I don't wanna pull a Legend of Korra or anything.

As for Medieval Stasis, the thing is that Thedas managed to remain stagnant for so long that now suddenly emerging from it would just seem forced. If anything, I'd like to see Qunari moving forward, forcing the rest of Thedas to reevaluate their approach to magic - further polarization into technological and magical progress would be quite interesting, really. IF done right.

I do wonder, however - would it still be Dragon Age? I think it's better if we stay in this stagnant situation that seems to be present for ages with very minor alterations...

If there was a huge time skip, they would no longer be in the Dragon Age anymore.

An "age" is 100 years, and we started in 9:30 and are in 9:41. So, I guess, sure, we can skip, but not far enough to matter all that much, at least as far as any mass world changes goes. Thedas isn't suddenly going to have smart phones.
