Ok is it me or do the horses feel out of placed, almost rushed like it was a last minute decision ? When trotting at normal speed the horse almost glides instead of walking. Now I only have two horses so i dont know if they get better but as of now they are just a small fraction faster then just moving around on foot. What do you guys think ?
Lets talk "mounts"!

Oh... I thought this was a thread about romance options.
I dont see how you came to that conclusion. The title is ...... I dont even ....

I've only ridden a mount once, and it was for the quest you had to do it. Other then that I'd rather just walk around, I barely get banter as it is (can literally go through the entire Hinterlands and only have one fire), so anything that completely cancels any chance of it I won't be using.

I was super stoked when I found out mounts were going to be available in DAI but as it turns out I hardly use them - I spam that search function like a fiend and being mounted up makes me worry I'll overlook something. Plus, I love party banter and being on a mount just kills that.
Dennet's codex entry: A Horsemaster's Notes on Mounts can offer a bit of (amusing) insight on the various types of mounts, so can the descriptions of the mounts for purchase at the stables, but if there's an actual difference in stats/speed I don't know.

I am embarassed to say that I also thought something like that when I read the topic title. There have been some other "naughty" topic titles around here lately.
But on topic: I usually don't use mounts because of companion's banter.

Mounts only move marginally faster, you can't fight on mounts and the biggest problem with mounts is that they interfere with party banters. Overall, having mounts in game was a waste of resource bioware could have put towards optimising the game.

I liked them. I find them useful when I want to go from point a to point b and then leave. Usually happens when I'm clearing a zone of quests and I can't be arsed with combat.

This. This. THIS.
I always spam the ping button and grab every bag, box, and crate I can find, also I always want to hear party banter.

The only time I ever use my horse is if I've forgotten to do a quest way at the other end of the map and want to get there fast.
I like to tell myself that riding is at least 0.2 seconds faster than if I would have walked.

Mounts were a good idea on paper, but they turned to be pretty much useless, except for "cosmetic" reasons (dracolisks and deers look... funny, to say the least).
This is another thing that could be improved in a future DLC. I don't think they can develop mounted combat now, but maybe creating some map with long roads where mounts make more sense, or where people react differently depending on your mount (like they do depending on your race), or a combination of both.
And of course, giving mounts to the companions (to not negate party banter) and/or allowing resources gathering while mounting could motivate people to use them more.

Apart from (potentially) missing loot and problems with party banter, it really feels bizarre when suddenly the rest of your squad disappears and Inky finds himself/herself riding towards the sunset - alone.
So to speak, of course ![]()

I use them on specific locations:
Large drop in the canyon for the merchant in the Hissing Wastes
Large drop to the final dragon in EDL
Rushing past the Dragonlings to the Feraldan Frostback
Rushing past the Giants in the Emerald Graves.
Stuff like that. Always use that big, armored one because it has the most hitpoints, I think.
They are a lot faster than walking though. Press left stick to sprint ![]()

Mounts are good for whenever I need to jump off a cliff.
Additionally, I can make the act look more spectacular by choosing one that matches my armor, I guess.

I use mine to jump over mountains. Can't bother going around? Mount that mount and spam jump over that big ass mountain/cliff. That being said I spent ages trying to get up over a mountain in the Storm Coast only to realise the way up there was around the corner so I would have been quicker walking ![]()

It's fine for roleplaying purposes I suppose. I just wish my companions would also use mounts.

Mounts in DA: I are kinda lame. I mean they're really slow. If you ride on a horse you need to feel that speed, but it doesn't feel that way in DA: I so I've never used them.
Someone has done a great job on designing horses etc...They're all pretty.

I actually use mounts quite a bit.
Seeing as I find most of the "open world" extremely boring, I use my bog unicorn like a fast-forward button.

They were shown off pretty early in development, so they aren't a rushed decision though I'd argue they are a bad decision.
They don't tie into any game systems other than movement, which they complicate as much as they aid because of the clunky dismounting / summoning. Worse they actively detract from the party systems by taking away the illusion of having one. Add to that the obvious problem of having mounts without mounted combat and the whole thing becomes silly.

I find them actually nicely done and I have never had any type of gliding issues with them. My mounts of choice are either the Chestnut (Fereldan Forder) from Hinterlands, the Imperial Warmblood from Tevinter or one of the harts.

You don't have to jump there. There is a ground level entrance on the western side
Mounts are good for whenever I need to jump off a cliff.
PETA greatly disapproves.

There is obviously a lot of care that went into the mounts, and they're amazing, which is why I feel kind of sad and embarrassed that I so far almost never use them (my husband does a lot though, and he switches them up, they are so...majestic!) I *really* don't want to miss any banter, especially since in my first playthrough I got so little I felt like I barely knew my characters. Currently in my second playthrough and the banter appears to be more plentiful...don't want to miss out. Also, gotta get that elfroot.
Maybe I'll use them more in subsequent playthroughs. I do like them!
