I love my Royal Sixteen Hart that my clan gave me for not getting them killed. I use it when I have to go back to an area that's pretty much cleared out but there's a few unfinished quests.
Lets talk "mounts"!

First time around I didn't use mounts all that much, but in subsequent playthroughs I took to editing in a lot of herbs and metals to avoid the resource grind - with less of a need for constant pinging and grabbing, I've found the mounts are a great addition. The horses especially fit in very well with the world, and their looks and sounds do a lot to heighten my immersion.

I dont see how you came to that conclusion. The title is ...... I dont even ....
Oh you sweet, sweet summer child!
I don't use the mounts much (same in Skyrim), but they do look awesome!

I was excited about them, but found them to be a complete waste of resources after all. The fact that they kill party banter is enough to make them utterly worthless. That aside, they're also not particularly fast and if you care about gathering or otherwise interacting with anything, the frequent dismounting/remounting is annoying too. Lastly, they look ... wrong. WAY too big. Knock about a foot off their height and you have something far more realistic than these monstrosities. Yes, yes, Shires are a thing, but most breeds are much smaller, including any breed that was ever bred for riding. On these giants, we look like a kid, one with a really bad seat to boot.

Am hoping that a future patch, DLC, or mod can add Mounted Combat like was also done in Skyrim. But for now, I prefer using boot leather to glean as much banter as possible.
Mounted Combat barely worked in Skyrim (used it once thinking I'd be a cool archer, I wasn't) so I really don't think it'd work in DA. The only game I've played where Mounted Combat works, is all the Mount & Blades..but thats what they are meant to do so it makes sense

Never got the hang of Mounted Archery - had to stop to aim and fire - but did become proficient at using a 2H fairly well. And many folks used a popular mod to improve behavior, add barding, etc.
Am willing to wait for something similar here; currently use Mounts to travel cliffs and dunes, and speed the occasion well travelled trail.

Yeah, mounts are great for cliffdiving and...well, not much else really....

As with Skyrim, could be more useful for those not wanting to utilize or limit Fast Travel.

I like the view of my elf Inquisitor sitting on that lilac hart. He looks gorgeous.
Then I dismount and walk. ![]()

Don't really use mounts. But I can say the same thing about the Elder Scroll Games as well, I like searching the areas for mats and secret areas.

I like the mounts but there is room for improvement. I play Rift as well and, the mounts there rock. Many are premium/DLC/Cash shop items so, it COULD be a great opportunity for Bioware to do something similar with mounts.

I never use them, the inquisitor is pretty fleet of foot already and thereS no real reason or incentives to use them. The disconnected open world environments are not that big to begin with and full of fast forward camps if needed.

They should allow banter if mounted.
I´m willing to ignore the fact that tree people disapear as soon as I mount a hourse as if they have a nasty allergy.
Would I be bothered if they continue talking while I ride from A to B? I think not.

There are mounts in the game? I've seen some horse pets and stuff, most likely there for Pokemon like collecting, but surely you're not meant to ride them. I once tried and it didn't feel like a person was meant to move like that.
In other words my game wouldn't have felt any bit worse without mounts.

I don't use mounts a lot, thou I admit the Avvar Mixed Draft looks amazing on a Qunari Inquisitor...
In general, they should just be way faster than they are.

Mounts aren't fast enough to be all that useful IMO... not only do you have to stop and dismount every time you want to pick something up (or do anything besides ride the mount, really), you can be instantly knocked off by even the weakest creatures unless you purchase a Forces Perk to prevent it. I guess they provide a small sense of roleplay value, but even that is diminished by the fact that your companions disappear in a cloud of smoke when you want to go for a ride.

Brecilian Sure-Foot looks adorable
. Her painful shout when proded into dashing not so much
.
I agree with others that they are not so practical. Dismounting every time you spot a herb is uncomfortable, party banter is non-existent (but it is even when on foot) and the maps aren't that huge to justifying this kind of transport. I still like just to mount it from time to time and slowly moving forward while enjoying a scenery or dashing to some point when I am tired of running around.
And I like a lot that Herald gently pets the horse when they stop.

The only use for mounts is in the hissing wastes before you unlock all the camps

They are great at getting you from the top to the bottom of a cliff quickly without any damage.

Ok is it me or do the horses feel out of placed, almost rushed like it was a last minute decision ? When trotting at normal speed the horse almost glides instead of walking. Now I only have two horses so i dont know if they get better but as of now they are just a small fraction faster then just moving around on foot. What do you guys think ?
Except for the Hissing waste mount ARE out of place, and why's that?
Because people pestered Bioware FOR YEARS with an unnecessary feature that never fitted the games but in a effort to please a bunch of f.....s after da2 hysteria devs choose to implement it just like gamepad support for PC but obliviously it's bioware fault.
