I had a LONG session yesterday. The first little bit I played routine to level up my characters a bit.
When I went up a difficulty level, I wanted to throw my controller at a baby tiger. Not because it was too hard. Because 85% of the games were people just running through levels, never stopping or backtracking to open side doors.
I checked and yes, for most of those games we had proper team balance. Players were just trying to get through the levels and not do anything else.
Is this some kind strategy that I'm not getting or did I just happen to play with some of the dumbest people in Thedas yesterday?

For me, the store is such a huge source of disappointment right now that I don't really care to take the time involved with stopping to open doors.  It is even more ridiculous when the chest yields a common item.  With the way the leveling system works, finding a nice balance between quick runs for XP and the gold you acquire from in game missions/pot along the way is sufficient for me.

I also am not a big fan of how it breaks up the flow of the game.

This - especially the last line. Bioware need to completely rethink treasure rooms and their loot system. The fact that more and more pugs are skipping treasure rooms suggests that there is indeed a problem atm

So, I might well just try to play Perilous for the XP, since I can forget about people opening treasure rooms?

treasure rooms are worthless. you get the same items from chests in perilous that you do in routine. The extra gold you get is pointless because it slows the runs down too much.

Perilous seems to be used exclusively for run and gun level grinding. The loot is often times not worth the time or risk fighting the boss. Occasionally I will loot every room if I'm playing with friends. I actually got really lucky yesterday with my chests. I got a lot of unique and superb items.

Currently, everyone I run with skip doors as well. Until Bioware fixes the loot system, I have decided to just focus on experience. I am now over 100 promotions and going strong. With over 1 million gold spent, I haven't received a beneficial item in over a month. Granted I am only missing three items (caliban, PBtM, and thunder strike).

Perilous also has the worst gold scaling compared to the increase in difficulty.

I'll open doors to free chests and break pots while someone else opens the door to the next zone, but that's pretty much it. Seriously though, they need to take common items out of those chests.

Here we go again.

It's less common that I run into PuGs who won't do treasure doors, but it happens periodically.

It's a foolish task this speed running on perilous most of the time.  If a team plays like a group you can get all the pots and all the doors and not lose much time at all.  Things fall apart when the team gets split.  On a lot of perilous pug runs you have no choice at all but to speed run because one or more team mates will give you no choice.

I love it the very rare time we get a whole group that goes after all treasure, things go smooth, the team sticks together it takes almost no time to get the extra loot and the games are cohesive.

Bioware just has to make it worth it somehow. I played yesterday with this cocky AW who said "I don't do chest, I got everything I need", so he ran off to try and solo the whole thing (like AW typically do), he didnt revive any teamates and ended up getting downed at the end anyway cause he's a loser.

At OP: No, I don't think you miss anything. I have a theory why people do speedruns and promote obsessively-compulsively. I presume that comes from two reasons. First is that the game lacks sense of progression otherwise as manifest drops are completely random and challenges are limited and cannot be re-accomplished multiple times. Second reason is that gold difficulty, perilous, is quite difficult. And people cannot beat it easily. Instead of devising a clever strategy or perfecting their builds and team work coordination, they chose to pursue a simpler route which is promote and promote. Once you get to some insane numbers of cunning and willpower and constitution, it is way easier to win on gold difficulty. So, to put it short, I have very little respect for promotions and I don't appreciate speed running as I find it to be a useless substitute for actually playing the game and enjoying it.

Treasure rooms for sure feel relatively worthless. Still, whenever I play with pugs, people almost always take time to open them. I just take it as part of fun. Especially when we get juicy Revenant ^_^

Treasure room and AW nerf threads are OP (overpowering the rest of the forum). BioWare plz nerf these threads!

lol don't worry the AW threads will cease to exist when Bioware inevitably nerfs the filthy AW class.

NO!!! Just no. This will spawn a new series of "Y U NERF AW!?" threads!

Don't worry man, there are plenty of women out there. Maybe some day you'll have your own  ;)

It's a trap!  Don't do it, guys.  If you absolutely MUST associate with them at all, do yourself a HUGE favor and limit it to casual, non-exclusive dating.

I find them more crunchy.

Fun fact: an Arcane Warrior's score is dramatically reduced by an Archer with a Long Shot ring, 5% party crit chance bonus and 0.5% cooldowns from party crits. Stamina amulet helps.
