Sooo you're saying the krogan had a massive fleet and were kicking the galaxies collective *** because they bred quickly and were able to build ships and man them faster than their more advanced enemies could destroy them regardless of their enemies superior technology, tactics and experience at interplanetary warfare?

Sure. That makes sense. >_>

It does actually. The Salarians simply did too good of a job.

They needed the Krogan to defeat the Rachni, so they gave them enough access to technology that will make them effective enough to do it.

Of course, after you give them the tech, you can't just flip a switch and make it all go away. The Krogan are not only brutes, they had some impressive scientific minds here and there. Again, they are no Salarians, but if the technology gap in conventional weapons is not big enough to to make up for the Krogan advantage in numbers - you need to resort to something like the Genophage. (essentially a weapon that symbolizes Salarian power.)

The krogan were used as little more than attack dogs in the rachni wars. Just because these brutes may be able to pilot the ship doesn't mean that they can figure out exactly how it works and harness the proper resources to build one of equal power.

I'm sure they would be able to reverse engineer something from what was given to them, but for it to be on par with the Council races to the point where they're winning space battles left and right is asking too much of my suspension of disbelief.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't taught how/allowed to pilot and were instead ferried around by the turians from battle to battle. They would be given new shiny space age weapons and armor and shoved out the door after some moving motivational speech punctuated with raised fists/voices.

All I can say is that I think you're making many assumptions here, and that while any headcanon is valid, I think that the current lore that required the citadel coalition to use a WMD like the Genophage to neuter the Krogan, is quite believable, and easily explainable.

Essentially the Krogan are just another creation that tried to destroy it's creators, it fits the theme of ME.

I am indeed making assumptions. Valid, logical, reasonable assumptions that fit what we know of the Mass Effect universe.

Keep in mind - while I can't tell you the exact timeline - the Krogan rebellion started after the Krogan received a seat on the council, not immediately after the war. They had just enough time to learn all the basics of advanced technology, and probably received help from other races as gratitude for their part in winning the war.

Probably. Too bad they blew it.

No turians during the Rachni Wars. First contact with the turians was made during the Krogan Rebellions several centuries later.

This is the timeline:

The krogan never had a seat in the Council. But they did have some 400 years time (between the end of the Rachni Wars and the start of the Rebellions) to expand and build up a military arsenal.

I was sure that in one scene in the Citadel archives we saw the Krogan councilor punching the Salarian one, but I guess it wasn't a councilor? My bad.

No turians? Okay. So the salarians ferried them around then.

Why were the rachni considered such a threat anyway? Did they even have ships?

The Rachni did have a fleet. One of the news stories that you can overhear in Mass Effect 2, if you saved the Rachni Queen, mentions that there are reports of encounters with strange ships that resemble Rachni ship profiles.

So they're like those hive aliens from the Ender series then? Interesting...

Or the bugs from Starship Troopers, or the Zerg, or other creepy crawlies from other stories...

Were the bugs from Starship Troopers capable of interstellar travel as well? I just remember some barren rock planet and that's it.

There's a Lovecraft story about interstellar creepy crawlers. Forgot the name of it but they weren't very powerful. Not that I can recall anyway. They had had this whole thing with hooking your brain up to a machine and taking you on journeys with them. It wasn't pleasant.

Yeah, the bugs from Starship Troopers have interstellar travel capability, both in the book and the movies as far as I remember. All with "organic technology" theme.

I think I vaguely remember the bugs from HP Lovecraft, and it's not that surprising, when it comes to good creepy intergalactic horrors, HP Lovecraft has the market cornered.

The bugs were quite different in the book than in the movie. In the book they also use firearms.

(The book is much better than the movie. The filmmakers changed so many details that barely resembles the source material)

I think they were called the Mi-go. But yeah, they had this thing with extracting human brains and sticking them in these special cylinders that could be attached to external devices.

And if you're familiar with Cthulhutech the Mi-go also created this warrior race (the Nazzadi) from human DNA to take over Earth for them. That plan didn't work out so well for the bugs though...

Speaking the Krogan...

If the Krogan Rebellions are any indication they seem to fail when it comes to logistics. Of the two attacks on Asari worlds that we know of, both operations fail when counterattacks cut their supply lines. In one they were forced to surrender and the other forced to flee from the system.

I guess they had no Sun Tzu .

That's the down side of having an entire race of Berzerkers with blood-rage, most of them don't do well in jobs that don't require them to smash skulls and headbutt thresher maws.

Why is the asari Valkyrie named after a human mythological spirit?

I'm sure they have their own myths and legends. Surprised there isn't an asari Amazon character...

I always headcanon all this stuff as simply the closest human expression used as translation for Alien concepts and words.

But I guess it could also be a new "class" that was named after contact with the humans, and was named in honor of certain human cultural concepts Asari found appealing.

Highly doubtful. I fail to see how some asari commando would read up on ancient human culture and name themselves after a "chooser of the slain" of all things. Is she roaming the battlefield for the dead or something? Ridiculous.
