i was quite disheartened by the removal of the Spirit/Entropy schools (sure spirit is still in the game, but it's purely defensive and focuses pretty much only on barrier) while making the mages pretty much your run of the mill, stereotypical medieval fantasy wizard. While completely ignoring the more witchcraft esque nature of the school of entropy.
outside of combat:
Entropy was an interesting school of magic because of it's darker nature. not quite blood magic but very similar, and the two schools could be easily confused by a non-magic oriented spectator. In DA:O the multiple schools of magic was a point of interest in it's lore and i was excited every time i found a new codex into the nature of magic. It had a mystique to it because of it's complexity. and how it wasn't defined by something so simple as control over elements as it's been made to be in DAI.
In combat:
It added a new depth combat in the mages ability to set up the field to give themselves and their companions the advantage rather than just going of the higher damage.
it was interesting to play around with the curses and hexes of the school of Entropy. the minor mind control abilities it added that where very similar in everything but the execution to the forbidden school of blood magic and it's domination.
I enjoyed playing with that school more than any other style in the dragon age series because of it's ritualistic nature.
probably already been brought up, but that is my opinion on the matter.
