Does anybody know if there is a creature model resembling a Formian for NWN2? It resembles an ant-centaur, so I guess if all else fails I could just use a giant ant.
Formian?

Yep, that's the one, although really it's now a standard D&D creature.

If you could make a skin for it exporting from NWN1 is a very basic thing.

The NWN formian models didn't look all that crap either (unlike most NWN creatures).

Imagine how much better they'd look with an actual normal map.

Creatures that are supposed to have segmented body parts generally work very well in NWN1.

Absolutely:

I just exported the idle animation for this, it'll take a few days to export the other ones but I guess Formians will be soon on the Vault.

Nice! Well that would solve this problem. Thank you. ![]()

The formians look even better now than on the screenshot. But I found a very annoying problem: they can't use weapons (I didn't test in game, but in the toolset, whatever they've got in hand is 100 times bigger than it should. Still trying to understand why...)

What about that thread where people were talking about the weapon scaling for creatures in the 2DA file?

Posté 22 février 2015 - 09:03
Yes, I remember, but in the toolset the weapon might look too small or too big, but the scaling coefficient would be in the range of 0.5 to 2. Even from 0.1 to 10, the item in hand would not hide the whole area, which is what I get here. Before changing the values in the 2da (which could make it work in game, you're right), I thought it would be better for module creators not to unequip weapons for the formians so they could work on the area.
Update:
- the change in appearances.2da (weaponscale) works. But as I explained above, it's not good enough.
- getting rid of all the NWN attachment points, and recreating them from scratch not only fixes the orientation but also solves the scaling issue!
I'll probably prepare a tutorial on how to import NWN creatures for use in NWN2. I know, it exists already, but a few crucial steps are not detailed (or even missing).

MDB and gr2 files now ready. It looks like formians can cast spells (normally, only the queen), use single-handed weapons, shoot arrows and bolts with bows and crossbows. The formian worker cannot use a shield or carry another weapon in the left hand (unless I change the left side of the formian worker model, but then I'm not sure the other animations, like idle or walk, will still be fine).
I also noticed the formian myrmarch needs to have the right arm slightly shortened, otherwise the weapon is attached to the wrist (same as the mindflayers).
I tried to add the dual weapons fighting, and the two-handed weapons animations, but I'm not sure if they will be good enough to keep. I'll make a few tests in game.

If it helps, Formians are typically illustrated wielding a spear or javelin.

Yes, but in case you can't throw your javelin, you probably will use it as a staff...
Anyway, some pictures:

It's not too bad, and it shows that my version of the whip finally works! ![]()
Let's check the combat with two weapons now (well, later, real life calls).

Everything's ready (animations, models, blueprints, including properties and creature's weapons
).
I just need to add an animation for two-handed combat, and it's good to go.

Those really do look like an alien race. They'd probably be good for a sci-fi adventure. Very nice!

Some source books have them being from the Lawful Neutral plane according to wikipedia. They do appear in Faerun as well, since they showed up in the Anauroch in NWN1: Shadows of Undrendtide.

Working for me, looking good. Do they have voices/soundsets in nwn1?

There's a 'Formian Warrior' soundset. Does it show up in your toolset? I see it on one system but not on my non-networked PC. Possibly it was added in with the NWN Complete release.
If there is a difference, perhaps it would be worth gathering up the NWN soundsets as a separate mod?

I checked my toolset. I see the Formian Warrior, but it doesn't play a sound when selected and you click the play button. NWN2 creature soundsets such as the dryad seem to play.

I opened up the SSF files for the c_form*, but all it shows is the c_aasimar* sound set. I checked using NWN Explorer and it shows the same thing. Looks like there are no unique sounds for the formians. Unfortunate.

The beetle or umberhulk soundsets might do the trick.
