After finally deciding to buy the game, I'm having difficulty on which system to buy it for.

I'd probably prefer my PC because I haven't played RPGs on my PS4 but many people have been telling me Origin didn't use their time wisely making the controls for PC so I'm hesitating.

I also have a Geforce GTX 560

I play on PS4 so take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt...

PS4:

You most likely won't experience as many technical issues.

From what I've gathered about what people have said on these forums, playing with a controller is better.

PC:

Chances are, you *may* encounter technical issues, more so than PS4.

If you're not digging the mouse and keyboard controls, I suppose you could always sync a controller.

You get to mod some stuff. Or toolset... dunno which it is. If somebody can clarify this with me, that would be good.

Up to you.

What HB said, basically.

I think console players are still getting some technical problems, and console patches are slower to come out, but there have been far more threads about PC performance than console (maybe PC folk just shout the loudest - they're more likely to be on a game forum I reckon, since games are srs bsns for them (I say this as a PC player)).

You can use a controller on console or PC - I don't know what compatibility is like with PS4 controllers, PS3 was shite as far as I'm aware, so XBOX controller was always the way to go. I use kb&m and get on just fine with it, but I know many people don't.

With PC you'll get access to cheat engine to take the sting out of the materials grind, to do various things like add schematics, give yourself gold, edit attributes, etc, if that's something that interests you (there was a duplication exploit in the game on all platforms but it has been patched out, inexplicably). You'll be able to use mods, most of which are aesthetic at the moment (new face textures, hair colours, changing the colour/design of your 'at home' outfit, etc). I crash a bit during normal gameplay if I have cheat engine open, so I'm restricting its use to giving myself money and mats, but others have no problem. I currently don't use any mods.

On PC you'll be able to use the cinematic tools and various post-processing shader suites to make your game even more awesome if you want to take interesting screenshots (not just simple screengrabs like the PS4 share button, but full control over the camera and visuals/lighting).

But if none of those things bother you, I think there's very little difference. You'll be able to crank up the graphics higher if you have a good PC, since consoles are locked out of the full ultra settings, but at a distance on your tv you'll not see a difference, and the game is beautiful anyway.

Edit: on crashing - during my 308 hour first run I crashed about 5-6 times. It was split evenly between random crashes while in an inventory, and crashing as coming out of a cinematic cutscene, and with one crash happening after I lost control of my character as she kept trying to run into a river over and over again, and then it crashed (idk either). The latter I managed to stop happening by lowering the cutscene effects and spell effects settings (thankfully these two settings don't require a restart of the game). The former happened so rarely I wouldn't know how to ward against it. I started using cheat engine and a cheat table at the beginning of my second run, and I was crashing more frequently, when just out and about, doing nothing in particular. I haven't had any problems without it.

I have a 7970M 2GB card, 8GB RAM, and an i7-3630QM 2.4Ghz cpu. CPU is important in this game, since the suspicion is that the DRM from Origin takes up a hell of a lot of your power. You should ensure you have all of your cores available and nothing taking up any cpu power apart from the game. It will max out at 100% for some people - on the menu screens. It's a hungry, hungry game.

I bought two versions. PC and PS3. Not a PS4 version but still on a console.

I gotta say between the PS3 and PC version I'd take PC version any day. I'm not sure what these "technical issues" are that a lot of people are having. Between 3 characters that I have put a lot of time into I have only run into a handful of issues. And those were a couple of crash to desktops and once where a quest for Cassandra did not update when I killed one of the Templars she was wanting me to find.

Its been flawless on the PC for me otherwise. Even the latest patch seems to be working with fixing companion idle chatter and what not.

And the game is simply beautiful on the PC with a powerful graphics card. stunning in detail.

A serious post from the loony lesbian lady? I must be dreaming.

In all seriousness, PC is the best choice... if you don't mind the horrible controls (which you can get used to). As long as you don't play it on the Xbox One, you're fine.

A 560 is pretty old, you'll be turning settings down or running at low FPS. Of course I think the console version only runs at 30 so it's not breaking any records in the FPS department either.

PC UI takes some getting used to, if it really bothers you, you can always use a controller.

PC has mod support and a cheat engine if you're into that. Certainly the latter makes repeat playthroughs less grindy. Helping you get materials easily.

There's no serious benefit to the console version, there almost never is. The main issue right now for you is your old GPU.

I've been playing with a 550 Ti on mostly medium settings (other specs: i5-2500@3.3Ghz, 8GB RAM, Win7) without any real issues. Played for something like 8 hours in a row yesterday, and only got the occasional 1 second freeze.

I also haven't experienced any of these performance/crashing issues people keep going on about. Yes, my game crashed, but only because my card was overheating and needed a clean. XD Now there're no issues.

Anyway, to answer the OP's question: PC.

Definitely PC.   Here's the thing people don't understand about the PC controls issue.   When we say the PC controls are bad, we mean.... they are only as good as a console control scheme.     Buying it for console doesn't solve that problem.

Things that are usually 'standard' mouse/keyboard controls are just not there.    Not being able to rebind your mouse buttons, no cursor edge-screen scrolling, etc.    If you already find console controls acceptable, you will probably be fine with the PC controls provided.

Its more the pain of having the vast flexibility of the mouse/keyboard layout and then being limited to only 1/5 of its potential.

Provided you have a decent system, its definitely going to look and play better on the PC.

Also, after some re-configuration of the controls, you can get the game to play like many MMO-style games that are on the market.    You just won't ever get the controls to feel like the old Dragon Age games.

PS4.

I've played both versions and the PS4 is by far (just my opinion) the superior choice. And you can take screenshots on the PS4 anyway.

PC. And this from a PS4 user. On PC you have the mods. I could kill for anything that could make the party banter work in my game...

What I find interesting about the banter on the PS4 version is the fact that from playthrough to playthrough, they either wouldn't shut up or they'd be stone cold silent.

I'd go PC, if the KB+M really bugs you, you can get a controller for the PC and, you can use mods and trainers for single player on the PC, plus if your monitor is better than your TV, that is another plus to the PC version.

I got both and both are fine. I am playing on a laptop and it's good. The difference is only screen size - my tv is huge- and my PS4 appears to be slightly stronger than my laptop because the graphics come out better. But if you have a reasonably strong PC, then go for that. If you want your PS4 to have something to do, go for that.

I had the banter bug on PC (it's gone now), and all my playthroughs on PS4 had proper banter (I timed it), so no issues there.

PS4 has run more stable than PC, but with PC you can customize.

Turns out my computer can't handle the game at all. Waste of money smh.

I have a

GPU: GeForce GTX 560

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3570k CPU @ 3.40GH

Anything I can do now, besides call it a quits?

I play on PS4 simply because my crappy old laptop couldn't even attempt to run it (and even if it could - comparatively tiny screen) - but technology permitting I'd have gone the PC route. Not a huge amount of mods out there yet but already some very nice reskins etc

Well, maybe you can upgrade the computer a bit to run the game. CPU is good but need to have a look at the RAM and power supply to see what you might be able to do for not too much money.

PC all the way.  Before you dismiss this, I am an avid console player.  I bought the Xbox One for this game.  I have the deluxe edition, but after numerous bugs, and the way Bioware handled patch 4, I realized the only way to compensate for all the bugs was to resort to mods.

Quite a few perks are bugged, or a complete waste.  You won't realize it until it's too late of course.  Also, quite a few skills are bugged too, but you won't realize that until it's too late as well.  So you'll end up spending lots of gold to either get perks that do work, or to respec your characters over and over and over again.  Then there is the low drop rates of fade items coupled with the horrible farmville item gathering.  Sometimes while playing this game I have flashbacks to Lineage ][ and half expect to run into some material farmer who doesn't speak English.

Plus, the console versions are just as bugged, but it's far more difficult to resolve problems.  My only recourse on the Xbox One was to re-roll or re-install the game.  I bet I rerolled characters, who were level 12-18 30 times or so before I gave up on the console version.  Eventually the saves were corrupted or the game itself.  I admit the PS4 may not be the same, and I'm sure there are console advocates who will speak out against what I've said here, but I can tell you the console was a horrible mistake on my part.

Mods that make the game better and/or compensate for bugs

1.  more crafting materials from war missions (you send out a mission that takes an hour of your time and get 5-10 mats of stuff that really isn't that great).  Now you get 30-40 of the items.  This helps make up for the horrible game mechanic of having you stop every 5 seconds to watch the bend-over pickup animation for a single herb or 5 ore, etc.

2.  bigger inventory.  I use this mod, in addition to exploiting the infinite amulets (1 time) to make up for 3 perks in the inquisition tree.  I set the inventory mod to 90 (must be a new character for this to work).  Works great.  In fact, while I'm at it, the infinite amulets of power are great to make up for the fact that a good portion of the perks do not work at all, or not how you think they should work.

3.  higher drop rate of schematics.  Consider my last playthrough without this.  I spent 8 hours farming one of the elven tombs for the ornate battleaxe schematic.  And when it was over, I realized I lacked a single mastercraft with 5 hidden blades and had already cleared Emprise Du Lion (or whatever it's called with all the red templars).  GAH!!!!

4.  community patch - fixes two mosaics that you are not able to get in the normal game.  You can look it up if you want details on which ones you can't get.  But it's completely unacceptable that Bioware was unable to make a fix that this simple tiny mod does.

mods that are just fun

1.  better eyebrows

2.  more race-specific pajamas

I should probably mention the loading times were much worse on the console.  The loading times aren't great though, even on the PC (even with an SSD), but that's ok.  It's still 2-3x faster than the console.  Also the PC version let's me still play with the xbox one controller.

There is some advantages to console.  You don't have to worry about setting up your graphics.  The game is a bit picky on graphics and the console versions are carefully crafted to not cause problems.  The same goes with sound.  I have sound cut out on me on the PC version.  Mostly when I play a mage.

One final BIG reason to go PC, is the limit to saves is 250 on PC and 30 on console.  And that's 30 shared on all characters!!!!  What a horrible horrible crappy idea.

I have something very similar for a CPU.  I picked up a GTX 760 and it works great.  It does cost $$$ but it is a nice card.  I'm sure there are even better cards out there.  How much RAM do you have?  Make sure your power supply can support a more powerful card.  If you can handle a 560 I am fairly confident you can easily upgrade to something like  a 660 or 760.

Any chance you could trade it in and purchase it on the PS4?

That's the beauty about console gaming. You don't have to worry about upgrades.

Plus, you'll have less chance of technical issues if you do so.

I doubt it. Bought it off amazon and used the key so it's practically useless now. My only bet is if I update my game card in the near future
