Why only 30 saves total?

Seriously, I have a habit of making multiple saves for parts I like to replay so the fact that there are only 30 saves total means that I have to severely limit how many saves I make with characters. Plus, this means I have to delete characters if I have to many or accept only 1-3 saves per character which is problematic if corruption occurs.

What are you playing on? I'd heard for the PC the save total was closer to 250 (across characters)...(I know I've definitely gone over 30 in the 2.5 runthroughs I have on Inquisition currently).

As for just getting rid of save file limits in general....I certainly agree.

I have 60 on the PS4. It's weird to go from no limits to a hard limit. I'm assuming its not there just for kicks, but for a reason (new engine and all). I don't know if it is too much to hope it can be bumped up at least to 100. Time will tell I suppose.

I also hate how they took away thumbnail screenshots from the save files. Which saves to preserve has become a terrible guessing game.

Yeah, I hated that. I make saves right before conversations, companion quests, etc...things that I want to relive. This was especially important to me with DA:I since I hated the gameplay (combat and fetch quests/other random tasks to farm power) so much that the thought of playing through the entire game again to get to the parts I liked was just...ugh.

I have a PS4 and I usually create a lot of saves so I really hope that this issue is fixed.

The limit exists for an obvious reason - the game has to read all of them to present you with the loading screen showing a list of charcters, in game time, in game location and nice pictures. If you were to allow the user to keep 10000 save files then the game would hang unresponsively for 10min while reading all these files and building the character list which is obviously completely unacceptable.

hah, why do you need so many saves? 30 is kinda plenty. On characters you don't play you just need one - quicksave and on character you play 3-4 are more than enough (including autosave and quicksave). So you can have 3 characters you play simultaneously and another +-20 characters you want so save for later (or if you share your game with someone else you can come to other similar agreement...)

This is the reply I got from Mark Darrah concerning the save limit: https://twitter.com/...775872689795072

"The issue is actually the way we enumerate the list itself."

You realize Origins allowed for 1,000 saves back in 2009?

Some players do not overwrite old saves, as it can lead to a dirty/corrupt save.. Also, for being able to go back for any unforseen circumstance.. The ability to play from a certain plot point, but pick a differnt path, etc.. Testing content over, and over again.. There are numerous reasons, one would prefer to save each savbe for an entire playthrough..

With a game that boasts over 100hrs of play, 250seems a bit restricted.. My 1st game took my 187hrs, and i only did have of Western Approach, and half of Hissing Wastes...

I had 25 saves for the ps3, but when patch 2 was released, the save limit raised to 30. It doesn't bother me.

Ouch.. Only 25-30saves?  For ALL of your characters? Or per character?

Across all characters, Rizilliant.

My guess is that it has something to do with cloud storage. When all our saves were local saves, the number was limited only by the size of the drive. Now that they're backing up our saves on their servers, they don't want to have it balloon too far out of control.

Wonder if autosaves and quicksaves count toward that total, because if all you've got is 26 slots, 2 autosaves and a quicksave means that you can only ever have 6 characters total at one hard save apiece.

I don't think storage is the issue here. You get few gigabytes on your email account for free and we paid for the game/s...

For ALL of them. And yes, quicksaves and autosaves count towards that.
