DI with Indra and drill rounds. Wallhack and recon mine spam for days.
Destroyer with GPS and PPR and Geth Trooper with Acolyte and Hurricane were the characters I used the most for my first platinum matches.
First Platinum game was searching for Bronze game (to try something out) and running over to revive someone.
I ran past a Prime while hearing a Banshee scream
WTF!
Oh Sh1t!
Not even using Gear ![]()
Justicar / CSMG was my kit for the first Platinum game I intended to play.
My other early favourites were
Huntress / CSMG
Valkyrie / Talon
quarians, though I was never a "platinum noob" as that would imply that the mode's infestation of horrible players was at any point better than me
I think it was the Human Sentinel.
Kind of surprised we don't see that one more. Batarian Sentinel with the Harrier and his racial passives is a damn tank as well as long as you avoid instakills.
On topic:
Any infiltrator, destroyer, AJA, Collector, any Batarian, any Krogan other than the Warlord, Drell Adept, Valkyrie, Turian Sent, QME, Volus Sent
Flamer GT
Talon GI
PPR TGI
Claymore AIU
PPR Destroyer
Raider Valkyrie
Wraith Huntress
All very solid Platinum "starter" kits, IMO.
"Newbie"
may also mean that you don't have the best gear unlocked yet.
This means that you depend on characters who can set up + set off their own explosions.
Sadly I did not know this as a Newbie, but since the Explosion-Power scales with difficulty,
today I would end most platinum matches as #1 with only the Avenger equipped.
Human Adept / Valkyrie / Fury are my favourites
Human Sentinel / Paladin would also be "self detonators"
but don't seem to have enough "power" to actually rock Platinum.
They still can be good choices.
My advice for Newbies would be to TOTALLY spec for explosions and still take full fitness.
This means TAKE
--> Explostion damage
--> make sure to have good cooldown times
--> and always skip the 4th tree completely which results in less weapon/power damage but still grants full explosion damage
(which is the only important thing on platinum).
Since BE's melt armor/barriers like butter but fail against shields, I always have the acolyte equipped and have it already
charged while moving around. The good thing is that every Newbie should have the acolyte. It is a light-weight, too
and doesn't harm the important cooldowns.
Black Widow SI
I still use him quite frequently, especially when not playing with friends.

Newbie =/= noob.
I did actually use the Jugg for my first Platinum games, as part of the very last weekend challenge. In my defence I'd only played around half a dozen Gold games at that stage, and without help from BSNers (Krjn and Maverick) I doubt I would have got through it at all. Mind you, I think I only died once in 4 games, and I remember extracting from White with 1 second to spare after a long walk from the basement. Good times.
I am now much more likely to use a BatSol, HEng, TSent, Justicar, QME, KroSol or Krentinel, usually dependent on what everyone else is using. It's sometimes not fun being the only non-infiltrator! That said, I'm still not a great fan of Platinum, but I do like the credits.
When platinum first came out, chosing Geth was preferred faction. They were an easy farm with somene playing a Salarian engineer, because his decoy/other pets worked against everyone to the point they finally got nerfed.
Easy farm maps were
White w/banshees getting stuck on counters/hilarious, nuking double primes and more, and pulling Pyros over the counters
Glacier with its room of shame
Hydra w.back room
Ghost w/back ammo box room
back then the Piranha was so OP and Arc grenades./cloak it really didnt matter what kit you chose as long there was somene playing an GI/QMIDemolisher and anyone slapping the Piranha on, or using the Typhoon/Krysae.
Then everything got nerfed..maps got fixed and you have what platinum is now
great time and lolz back then it was the fastest way to get creds then to max out your URs and rest of inventory
Kind of surprised we don't see that one more. Batarian Sentinel with the Harrier and his racial passives is a damn tank as well as long as you avoid instakills.

BatSent with the highest level shield recharge gear and appropriate character build gets better than a 1.72 second shield recharge, right? That is pretty sweet indeed.

If you just stacked up shield recharge you could get to a 1 sec recharge. Plat still has enemies that have damage bleed through because of the shield recharge mechanics though. But with a power that neutralizes phantoms and other bothersome enemies like Possessed Captains and a staggering power that can be spammed with shockwave, that recharge is pretty ridiculous. You can stack cyclonics and stronghold and still have a really good recharge with a huge health pool and DR from blade armor. I personally think the Bat sent is a more effective tank than the Jugg but instakill enemies still have to be dealt with carefully.

Similar to D Wrecks and sabreracer, my first Plat game was an accident. I was pretty much only playing Bronze and Silver at the time. I searched for a Bronze match with my gearless Human Engineer and wound up in Geth White Platinum. (Apparently the matchmaking system hates HEs.) Everyone was hiding in the basement. I managed to make it to wave 6 by using every bit of consumables I had but we wiped when the escort drone took us on a leisurely stroll through turret town. It made me consider playing Gold, so that was good.
As far as intentionally playing Plat, I used TSent Falcon/Hurricane to do the Plat map mastery challenges.
I dislike the slow guys, so Geth Jugg and Krogan Warlord are out of the question.
Ideally the character has decent or better durability with some sort of 'panic button' to minimize deaths. For example
Turian Ghost w/ his Stimulant PacksTurian Cabal w/ her Biotic Focus shield restoration evolution
Alliance Infiltration Unit w/ her Defense Matrix
Salarian Infiltrator w/ his Cloak + Energy Drain
etc
slow guys??? you need some Space Magic
to fix that my friend.
any kit is platium viable, just need good weapons for handled easy the bad guys
and the painfull exp to play many games for gain skills, i think the mobility is the 1st skill you need learn
My first was a Vorcha Soldier with an Acolyte
After that, I believe I started to play the Valkyrie a lot, the GT and GI a lot and probably the HA quite a bit also
I normally only play Plat in an invite group, and when I'm pugging I'm typically satisfied to stay in Gold

Quarian Female Infiltrator with Widow. It was the first really effective combo I had.
Are you asking what I actually used as a complete newb or what I started to use when I wasn't being an idiot?
Actually used as complete newb
Used later once I wasn't a complete idiot
What I use nowadays
whatever annoys marksmad and ark171 (lonerenforcer) the most
That would be the Arcane warrior
Not only is it "OP as **** (!)" it also means you're playing DAMP instead of ME3
God @#$*&^! dammit I've only played that character 16 times. And it was only because I was experimenting and I wanted to fit in with everyone else who was doing it, just like when I was in college.
Wait that sounds really bad. Ignore that last sentence.
Also DAMP is a really stupid acronym especially when there is much cooler abbreviation of DraCo for Dragon Age Co-op.
