You know guys... I'm generally always all for sexy stuff being included in games, Maker knows I'm a pathetic pixel pervert, so this makes me feel like a devil's advocate, but the amount of butthurt crying in these threads does bring me much joy...

This one, and that one about Cass and Josephine being ugly and manly are particularly good

Josie is neither. Whether Cass is "ugly" is a matter of taste, though honestly I think she'd look great if her hair wasn't so bad; but this is Bioware, they can't get hair to ever look right. Manly? Well, yeah, kinda. There's no problem, that just isn't to many people's tastes. And since Josie's romantic arc is usually considered inferior, it leaves a lot of players with no options they like.

Still confused why people think having less (not even zero!) desire demons in one game means that's the trend forever and always.

Despair, fear, and terror fit better with the theme of this specific game. Desire demons would be sipping martinis far, far away from any rifts, because (1) the emotions they feed on aren't encouraged by terrifying tears in the sky and (2) getting pulled through rifts is unpleasant for spirits. Even their "good" side, Purpose, would have little reason to be near rifts, and plenty of reasons to actively avoid them.

On the other hand, compassion spirits would be drawn to soothe the death and destruction near rifts, and get pulled through as Despair. And despair, fear, and terror demons would have obvious reasons to be attracted to rifts. Rifts terrify people.

If desire demons come back in DA4 i hope the "im just feeling myself up while trying to offer a deal" animations are changed, looked silly as hell IMO

This.

Know what other type of demon wasn't in? Abominations - those weird meatloaf looking things when someone gets possessed.

Nudity isn't a problem. I was momentarily surprised by the female nudity in the Sera romance scene* because I hadn't encountered anything like that in a game before, but I didn't find it offputting the way desire demons are, because the sex scene is done maturely and serves the story and the characters. The desire demons, on the other hand, aren't characters, they're just vaguely female-shaped teenage sex fantasies.

* I've only seen the one with Sera; I'm assuming there are others with some level of male or female nudity, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you ask me, the chain of reasoning would have gone something like this.

1. Desire demons? Yes or no?

2. Sure, let's do desire demons!

3. Except, now that we're clear on the fact that our audience includes players of every gender & every shade of sexual orientation, we should probably vary the desire demons to reflect that. Male desire demons, female desire demons, maybe some androgynous desire demons? Hey, androgynous desire demons! I'll start sketching right now!

4. Wait... wait... wait. Male desire demons?

5. Okay, which will generate more rage: dudes who LOVE boob-fondling female desire demons but will RUSH to the forums to protest if they have to see a single hip-cocking, ab-rippling, hair-combing male desire demon because EW THAT'S GROSS, or leaving desire demons out entirely?

6. Silence.

7. Soooo... pride demons? We'll make 'em real big.

If that was the reasoning, there wouldn't be any gay characters in Bioware games, though.

I disagree. Firstly, because everyone has to pick their battles--and I think (given the way that all the Dragon Age games have trended) that Bioware has decided to go all-in on being inclusive. They're okay with the anger & think the rewards are worth it.

They've also (and, man, am I GRATEFUL) opted in favor of giving female characters relatively practical, full-coverage armor. So they have in general moved away from objectifying their characters for the benefit of the male gaze.

Desire demons still make sense in the world, though. But in order to keep going with them, they'd have to fight for these sexualized, as-naked-as-possible creatures. It's already against trend. And then doing it properly? Just not worth it. Pick a different battle.

It also would have looked strange to have purple naked women next to all the other demons coming through the rift who are twisted and monstrous. They aren't really the the type that works well as mooks (its also weird for pride demons to be mooks that just attack you but at least they look the part). They could have added in a quest where you have one trying to get you to make a deal with it but they have already done that multiple times and they shouldn't be trying to force one in just to say they have them (and of course, meet the ****** quota)

If the problem is half naked women that would a bit weird since you have naked women sculptures scattered around the place including on your equipment.

That's a good point about Desire Demons actually.

Interesting.

I'd like Desire Demons in DLC or the next game though. And some sort of lore wiggling around (not hamfistedly) to let male looking Desire Demons happen as well. Though I guess we can, I dunno, somehow assume things like the Warden and Hawke are bi to an extent? *shrug*

The amount of bemoaning the lack of scantily clad female desire demons is somewhat alarming to me.  Seriously?  *This* diminishes the game's quality for some people?  I can't think of something less inconsequential to determining the games quality than this.

Honestly, I just don't like a lack of any previously established demon type.

I'm gay so it very much doesn't have anything to do with their bewbs.

YES, I miss the Sloth Demon! It was cool!

The thing is there *was* a desire demon.  Imshael was a desire demon.  It is true that there are fewer overall I suppose, but so long as they aren't just deleted from the lore, I don't see why the game has to have a demon quota of every established type so far.

I don't have a quota. I don't even think about the exact number I want. I just want more. And I'm going to continue to want more, sorry :(

I still don't see the real reason why the Desire Demons had to be excluded from this game.
