I mean, these things must be cool as well to mount! In Dragon Age: Last Flight it's revealed that a group of 30 griffons had survived the  failed experiment to make griffons immune to the taint. Why it didn't work? (The joining only works on creatures capable of magic/intelligence ?)

Anyway, i really hope to see these creatures again. Any rare creature in fiction that is tough to be extinct is an amazing sight. I would love to see the party reactions.

It is extremely unlikely. In fact, I would not be surprised if Gaider hasn't already stated that there will be never be griffons.

Yes. I've read somewhere that some griffin eggs did survive...

I'm not sure how griffons would fit in. Maybe we will get soldiers who are griffon riders and see them in the background or just fly them in cutscenes.

In Last Flight, Valya recovers thirteen griffon eggs which had been held in a form of suspended animation by a long-dead Grey Warden mage. The eggs hatch and have presumably remained in Valya's care at Weisshaupt.

Perhaps we'll see them in an upcoming DLC, given the speculation that one might be set in the Anderfels.

Whenever they figure out how to introduce flying mounts into the game without allowing you to also skip over all the content in a zone.

Joining the griffons didn't work because they have an innate hatred of the taint. After they were Joined, they usually tore themselves apart.

It's going to be a design choice more than anything else. If they think they can introduce flying mounts without it being game breaking they might just do it, seeing as how flashy it would be and how big a selling point it can potentially be.

Whether they might actually figure out the design this is different. Personally I don't see it happening anytime soon. Even now mounts are pretty much useless aside from in the huge locations like Hissing Wastes, and if they introduce Griffons they'll have to include mounted combat and the mounts themselves aiding in combat because hey....it's griffons, not some sissy showpiece mount.

It's one of the reasons I'm pretty sure we're going to get a Weisshaupt DLC (the other one being the endings).

There seems to be a battle within the order, with no news coming outside of Weisshaupt. My personal guess is

I has extremely disappointed they weren't at least mentioned in Inquisition given the events of Last Flight.

Last Flight takes place concurrently or slightly after Inquisition and on the opposite end of the continent, so it makes sense that no one mentions it.

I don't think so

Every since origins knowing their extinct means they can't come back ever, unless
There is a prequel during the time of the older blights with the griffons

So if they did a prequel which in fact for now it's not possible. But maybe in the future

The Griffons have barely been rediscovered. They won't be grown for a while yet. Plus they likely want to breed them to get their numbers back.

I want to ride a griffon guys. Can I ride a griffon? Please?

Griffon's mature relatively quickly, but I'd say it really depends on how long the writers decide Inquisition lasted. If it was a year or less, I don't expect a big enough gap between it and 4 to allow the griffons time to get ride-able. If it lasts a few years, maybe put some awesome DLC in between to help pass the time as well, then maybe we'll pass the 16 or so years we need to have some fully mature griffons to ride in to battle.

I wouldn't be surprised either way.  After all, dragons were supposedly extinct too.  I don't know what capacity I'd expect to see them in though.

People get excited about horses. They'd go wild for flying mounts and aerial combat. Bet that would be a programmer's nightmare. /sigh

BA-KAAAAAAW!

That's how I imagine a griffon would sound if it existed in the DA universe.

I can't imagine BioWare would have had them brought back in the novels if they weren't planning to show them in a game at some point.
