Probably my go-to, can't-live-without parties are as follows:

DAO: Zevran (regardless of romance), Morrigan, Sten, and Alistair. And my dog. I love my dog.

DA2: Carver (until he leeaavves meeeee), Isabela, Varric, Fenris.

DAI: If I'm romancing someone I like to drag them everywhere with me, but other than that I always truck Sera, Dorian, and Bull around.

Hmm. I was forced to mix it up sometimes for banter purposes, but I'll go for the core groups in each.

DA:O - Leliana (Warden's beloved), Morrigan and Alistair. Alistair was my Warden's Bro, the Garrus to her Shep. She and Morrigan had a strong bond, and cared deeply for each other - Morrigan's first feeling. Honourable mention: Shale, for being downright hilarious as well as the greatest tank in existence.

DA2 - Isabela (romanced), Aveline and Merrill. Varric has to get a mention even though he was often left out of the rogue slot for Isabela. Aveline was my Hawke's rock. Varric was again her Garrus, and Merrill was the naive little sister type they all doted on and were protective of.

DA:I - Cassandra, Varric and Dorian. Varric for same reasons as before, Cassandra replacing Aveline as the stalwart "anchor" for my Inquisitor to stay grounded (I know, I know... Couldn't think of a more apt phrase!) Plus, the two of them are hilarious together. Dorian was witty and amusing, but he and my Inquisitor grew close after In Hushed Whispers. She helped him with his father and told Mother Giselle to back off, so she has his trust and he's got her back no matter what. Honourable mention goes to Iron Bull - treats my Tal Vashoth Inquisitor with respect from the start, and they grow closer when she helps him adjust to his own outcast status after she orders him to save his men over the Inquisition's best interests.

DAO : Ogrhen, Zevran and Alistair, Anders (I really miss this anders...)

DAII : Merill, Varric, Isabella

DAI : Dorian (I really can't play without him in my party, he's always here ), Varric, Cullen (romance, too bad he's not a companon, party banter would be great ), sera because she's funny and cassandra

Dragon Age: Origins --Everyone except Wynne (her lectures got tiring). 

 

Pairs (for the banter)  Zev and Oghren had great Deep Roads Banter, Alastair and Morrigan, Leliana and Sten, Shale and everyone.

 

I liked to bring Alastair as my tank plus he's adorable, Zevran as my rogue, and would go back and forth on Morrigan and Wynne (if I knew I'd need a healer).

 

 

Dragon Age 2: Varric, Varric, and Varric, Fenris, and Anders (for healing and commentary until Act 3)

 

Dragon Age Inquisition: Varric, Bull and Dorian or Varric, Bull, and Vivienne.

 

I like Cassandra but I like the banter between all of them the best.
