What is this I'm hearing about people giving a modder crap for making a Cassandra female romance mod?

And the reasoning behind it.
Meh, if I had to sneer at every single mod that I don't like, or the underlying desire that made people want the mod in the first place, I would go (more) insane just looking at the front page of Skyrim's nexus.
I myself won't use any mod that changes skin color or sexual orientation because I find it all fine already and don't like messing with a creator's vision, but if someone wants to do it, well, knock yourself out. It's not like it is much better or worse than the thousands of mods for various RPGs that make X characters prettier according to Y standards of beauty.
In your own home, you can be as much of a racist/sexist/homophobic etc. arse as you please, I don't give a damn. It's when it translates into hateful speech that I have a problem, and a mod is not hateful speech unless the modder says something like ''I made Vivienne white because black people are all ugly and stoopid''. Otherwise it doesn't affect anyone else and I see no reason to be up in arms.

I certainly hope that's true. I hope BioWare including a transgender character in their games doesn't being a trend, or worse, a slippery slope. And since BioWare has frankly not done an overwhelmingly good job of having likeable, competent, masculine male love interests in their games, Garrus being the very impressive exception, I wouldn't want to see one or two of them being gay every time.
'Masculine male' sounds kind of unpleasant to say. Whatever.

Pretty much. Saying "ugly and stupid" is certainly not called for. But people absolutely have the right to say "I don't find this attractive or compelling and am not interested in spending my time with a story concerning it."

Bioware has one of the most poisonous and vapid fanbases I have ever been across.
To take video games so seriously tells me all I need to know about these pathetic hate-filled bags of gas and how empty and delusional they are. It's not even funny anymore, it's just HATE on top of HATE and I have no damn clue how people grow to be this way.
If anything is killing gaming it's fans.

Perhaps, but I still fail to see how the existence of these mods is affecting others (or should be, because apparently it is affecting others). I mean, the majority of people who use them only want to romance a certain character, which they otherwise couldn't (or wouldn't, because they didn't want to play a different gender/race).
That doesn't prevent people from having an opinion. You have to deal with it. There are things that you see on your tv that don't affect you personally, you are still going to have an opinion about them and talk about it with your friends. Sometimes, you have even people writting to companies after having learned something to tell them how they disagree with what they did. An artist is going to be judged for its content, it can be positive or negative. I'm certain that not everyone would be happy with a romance mod with Leandra or Bethany because you loved them so much for example in DAII. That's not only a big retcon, but it is also not supposed to be an healthy relationship with a character that was your sister or your mother. Why anyone would like to add such ( horrible to them ) content in its game ? would wonder many folks.
I'm not really hostile, I just personally find it very weird that people are so desesperate to romance a character that doesn't want your gender and was pretty clear about it ( Cassandra : " You are the herald of Andraste and... you are a woman " aka, nope darling I don't like women, I'm so sorry ) You don't have the voice, and it retcons the character, you know that she doesn't want what you want to be and you are going to deny it. The only thing you'll have true is the same romantic behavior that you knew was specific to a male, and a body. This is beyond me.
( No need to explain your reasons, I'm probably not able to understand your point of view ) Oherwise, I don't really care, yes it doesn't affect me, but if i want to give an opinion in a topic, I will, like probably many folks.
If people don't want to be judged about mods, how about they don't create topics about them anyway ?

I'm tired of social justice warriors who care more about ****** fictional characters than actually justice for those who are actually living it especially when they are just as guilty of shipping straight guys together because that's hot. Pfft. I'll ship cullen and dorian all I want! If I had the time I would mod everyone bi and listen to the crying. Feedin' on your tears.

People sharing their opinion about something does not equal hate. Accusing someone of hate simply because they didn't agree with you, or overtly support you, is itself a pretty hostile attitude.

I don't think the so called 'SJWs' are the ones complaining about this.....
Every time see that acronym I think of a 90s R&B group called SWV , btw.

Maybe maybe not, but they are usually the ones crying about not changing fictional character's sexuality. Either way I'm just sick of it. They aren't real. Care more about living people that would be nice.

Good riddance to this mod... although I'm sure another will just pop up. And others for Dorian/Sera too unfortunately.
I understand the excuse that "this is just a game"..
To a point. I understand it.
But the thing is, these aren't just games. They're stories. I see no reason to modify it than I would a novel or film. It's someone else's creation. Not my little sandbox, not my story, and the characters aren't my personal toys.
I prefer a certain level of respect for the story.Else you have little left that sets Dragon Age apart. It's not Skyrim. The story is mostly what it offers. Take it away and there's little left. Turning it's characters to suit your every desire just puts too much priority over the player perspective, rather than the storytelling perspective. Its ultimately self centered.. and as a general rule, I hate selfish people. On just about every subject. If I could suppress every self-centered whim among gamers, I would. Unapogetically. I'm an assh*le, I know ![]()
It should be enough that the player perspective is catered to within the confines of your own character. Yet people want more.. "More more more. Customize everything! The world is ours!" I hate this. The characters might not be real, but I think for art's sake, they deserve some type of respect.
Sorry if this is a late reply.. I found it on google and just bumping.. I might not be around if someone cares to argue. ![]()
