SJW doesn't mean sh*t anymore, is just the go-to insult for anyone talking about "liberal ideas" now, no matter how small
in my experience its very easy to tell the difference, if some drops "shitlord" you can safely assume SJW not liberal

I'm also pretty sure that having an opinion on this topic has nothing to do with being liberal.

Personally, I don't care about justice or liberalism per se.. although that might be part of it..subconsciously. I mean, it is pretty lame for straights and gays to be forced another sexuality.
What I really care about is storytelling, creative ownership, world building and consistency.. and I hate the latent, piggish consumerism that stands out when it comes to mods like this. It tells me that people care more about feeding their own whims, rather than being fans of how the rules of a fictional world/character works. It's player centric. Not world centric. So this isn't really a justice issue to me. Just more about hating on the consumer mentality.
As a musician, it's the same way I might feel about plagiarism or sampling my music.
Hey. I'm an artist and you will respect my integritah.

The difference is that people who actually fight for justice will never bully others.
But what happens is that abuse has become the normal behaviour for the so-called paladins of political correctedness.
Most of them go to tumblr and twitter to vent their frustrations regarding the rest of the fandom. When not there, they concentrate in 4chan, for instance.
And you often see them having a patronising, condescending attitude right before appealing to verbal abuse, harassment and bullying.
That's the heart of the problem. They're besmirching the fandom with their abusive attitude. 2 good examples are the assault on the modder, described in this thread and the assault on Greg Ellis on twitter.
And this is growing out of proportion.
The thing is, they always do this in groups because they don't have the courage to stand for their beliefs on their own, SUCH AS MYSELF, for example.
So people like me become an isolated voice in the community.
Which is why I'm distancing myself from certain fandoms inside the gaming community. And speaking against abuse whenever I see it.

I think every artist has a right to not have any integrity too! Heh..
If they want this stuff to happen, they'll say so. And afaik, Bioware hasn't.

Funny that. I've stayed away from this fandom for awhile.. past couple months? Not sure.
It took this drama to bring me back.

That's giving the developers a rather silly amount of credit and denying rightful credit to hard working modders.
You speak as if, when you a become an employee of a game development company, the light of heaven shines down on you. Your work is now Capital-A Art. But if you're a modder? Your work is nothing but consumerist drivel, feeding your own selfish fancies.
That's just entirely untrue. Developers have the same skills many modders do and make the same mistakes many modders do.
There are parts of every game that aren't given great attention. There are characters modeled in a hurry and used multiple times. There are systems built sloppily, bugs left unfixed, mechanics that don't work or work poorly. Modders often do a better job, and they deserve credit for it.
Have you ever built a mod? I have. It's not easy.

Hey, I'm attacking the gamers actually.. the ones who want this stuff. The modder is just a small piece in the puzzle. Barely anything actually. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. My hate is much more thorough. ![]()

Actually the modder is the whole point of the thread! I should know, I made it!

I'm sure that some modders out there are much better then some developers when it comes to the craft of video game design. Unfortunately, this mod isn't that impressive in my opinion and most of the sexuality change mods for Dragon Age sure that distinction.
If players want to change a major character's face that the developers have obviously worked hours and hours and hours on, and have meticulously crafted to best represent that character, that's one thing. You might have an argument there.
But for every one major character like that, there's going to be 10 minor ones that were put together in 1/50th of the time. And it's often going to show. There is rarely any significant artistic drive there - developers need a face to slap on a body and some low or medium level employee slammed it out in a few hours or however long it takes. Players aren't in the wrong for wanting to improve them as much as possible.

Things change and topics derail.
It happens.

To be fair to the developers they have the handicap of working under a budget and deadlines while modders have the time they need

Well, you gotta make due with what you got. A lot of small details are very difficult to replicate in anything but a professional studio. A lot of very worthwhile mods wouldn't have gotten made if they had let that stop them.
But yes, I'm sure they do suck.

Considering how often it's dropped in sarcasm, not as much. The first time I ever saw the term was on reddit. Granted, my time on tumblr is pretty much dedicated to funny gifs of video game characters and kittens with explosions in the background, but I'm liberal and hold a decent amount of SJW-y views. I just think I have a better time being nuanced about them.

Oh, I know that. But I'm redirecting my disapproval. I don't think they should take the brunt of criticism. They're filling a need. It's the need that I dislike.

They're limited in what they can do with these mods. They can't hire the VA to record the missing romance lines. They can't change the animations so there'll be clipping, etc. These types of mods don't really work so much anymore with moving the focus to the cinematic game experience and fully voiced dialog.
I've used a similar mod for BG2 but since then, they haven't really worked that well (BG2 was mostly a text based dialog system and characters were represented by little sprites). I saw a scene with this mod on tumblr and the animations were definitely off...I'm not interested in this mod, though I was never one that cared for Cassandra as an f/f romance either way.

Who said there was anything wrong with modders enchaining background NPC's? That's fine in my book.
It's just that sexuality/romance mods are usually terrible, awkward and not worth it, because a modder can't get exactly get the VA to record new lines for their mods. Add that to changing animation, NPC's response to the romance and making sometimes sweeping revisions to the story (a Dorian bisexual mod would be ridiculous) and we how their usually just not up to it.

My point exactly.

I don't see how changing sexuality is "improving" anything.
This isn't about changing clothes. There is nothing to improve. Sexuality just is. It's not better or worse. It's just supposed to signify a reality.. a reality one can't change.
