What is this I'm hearing about people giving a modder crap for making a Cassandra female romance mod?

Funny thing, prerelease, I would have been happy if she was Bi. I had a lot of fellow female fans of Cass back then.. they were a little bummed and I was bummed for them.

But that's not how this went down.. and I have to respect that. Just like I wish I could have romanced Sera pre release... Now I'll do it as intended.. with a female toon,

Lol. Well the thing for me, is that you couldn't even pretend that Cassandra could be bi, unlike for example Tali. With Tali, despite the bad experience with voice acting, and other issues, you could still dream about it in your head. But Cassandra turns down the female inquisitor. Way to stop me lol.

Actually, as long as people are being respectful, Bioware seems to have a history of encouraging fans to play with their characters.  They released modding tools for modders to be able to mod their game.  http://forums.nexusm...ing-dragon-age/

In fact, the Dragon Age Toolset is still available on their site. http://dragonage.bio...om/dao/toolset/

They also held a fanfiction contest.  http://themarriedgam...ners-announced/ Which kind of says, 'let's see what you can do with our characters'.

Allowing people to play and mod their characters actually can bring more people to their game.  I played their game console only, until I found out about the mods. Then I bought versions for the PC as well, because, mods.

Like JK Rowling and like JRR Tolkien, Bioware seems to realize that giving these tools and allowing players to expand upon their creations in non-monetary ways will help ensure the longevity of the game and the re-playability. It also ensures a fan base is still here when they release their next iteration.

Modding the Dragon Age game is not so much an 'in your face' to the game designers but more of a compliment in that 'we love your creation so much, we want to do more with it and we want more.'

That was DAO. Modding has been a thing of the past for them since DA2. And especially now with Frostbite. Practically a different company. DAO was made right on the cusp of the EA buyout.

I'm not surprised. I expected this earlier.. lol. I also expect a mod to romance nugs. You never know with some people.

I'm not surprised. I just think it's time for a good debate about the issue. Or if not debate, just some fighting.

Fighting won't get you anywhere, though.   You can't force people to stop wanting or making these mods.

The only way to prevent them from happening is...well, make all the LIs open to both genders.

Cassandra, in particular, is a pretty popular character (esp. for a f/f romance) so I'm not surprised hers was one of the first romance mods.   I think there's one for Solas too and Cullen (two more popular romance characters).  Eventually, all of them will have one...even the less popular options (like Blackwall or Sera).

I guess you, as a Cassandra fan, should be proud in some weird way that she was one of the first.

I wish Cass didn't act like she was enjoying the flirts from a female PC so much, just makes it look weird that she gains approval & smiles when a female inquisitor flirts with her then randomly gets awkward & says she's uninterested when at Skyhold

No, you're right. Fighting won't get anywhere. Personally, I just want to air out my opinions, maybe convince someone to respect setting a bit more. That would be enough. But the fighting can be funny.. even if I don't partake. :P

She probably thought it was harmless at first

It's flattering if anyone compliments you, despite sexuality.

Well, for many people at least.

I agree. I was a bit surprised that a female inquisitor could go so far with the flirts, even takes her hands. At least, with Sera, it's pretty clear at the beginning when she cringes in the tavern when you want to make clear you wouldn't be against a closer relationship. XD

Yeah, some of that is too misleading.

All I can say is that Cass is in a somewhat self-doubting, fragile mode at that point. She questions herself on many things. So maybe she accepts the encouragement on that level. Sera doesn't need that.. and is proud.

Doesn't Dorian do the exact same thing?

Nice to know #TeamNat is growing strong on Twitter.

I'm not sure. Haven't explored it enough. :)

I see some of the resemblance though. They both need a good friend more than Sera does.

I do liked how Sera behaved with me. First time I tried to give my feelings, she made me understand immediately that it isn't going to happen,  and second time, I thought she was going to be hostile since I insisted, but she was very nice, and kinda cute, telling me that we had a commong thing, we liked girls. She won 50 friendship points.

I agree about Cassandra.

Some of the flirts are very vague and seem like they're just the PC being friendly.

I don't know about the Cassandra ones as I never picked them, but others I've seen were kind of like that.

One thing I really don't get about these mods is whether people actually enjoy them. Almost every single one of them I've seen (YouTube only, not in my game) looked insufferably awkward to me, for reasons already remarked in this thread (the VO issue, for one). I can't see myself ever wanting that no matter how crazy I am about a romance.

But I guess as long as they work for some...

Eh Dorian is definitely saucy, even after he comes out as gay, but nothing as personal as hand holding.

Yeah, never could figure that out with some mods either. They're always tacky.

There's a difference between understanding and agreeing with. It's not a hard distinction.

A very astute observation. And not only is it clearly not anything a reasonable person would ever agree with, it doesn't even make any sense

The Cass F/F flirting was just weird, is like she's interested or curious about the potential relationship & then it just stops dead at Skyhold, i haven't actually seen the male version but i heard the F/F rejection scene is identical to the male version just without Cass coming back & starting the relationship officially afterwards

I was always under the impression that "The Talk" occurs because that's the point were Cass realize the Inquisitor's actually interested in her.

Yes, some are vague, but I think one or two are obvious enough for Cassandra, Josephine and Sera, and Cullen ( didn't try on other characters, but it's likely it's the same ). For Sera, the flirt in the tavern was pretty clear to me, and she clearly understood the meaning even if it wouldn't be considered as a ' serious ' flirt. And I am sure she understood when I see the difference with a female inquisitor where she is a bit excited.

Well there you go. Disgusting behaviour. Disgusting.

Thing is though, when you spend your time arguing that it is socially acceptable to DICTATE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT SEXUALITY, don't ****** and moan if the concept is a double edged sword.

Yeah, that's a thing, now, apparently.

That was a bit weird to have exactly the same cinematic until she turn the female inquisitor down. With a male inquisitor I thought it was her face where you can see she has feelings for you, she is conflicted and all, and she happens to have exactly the same face when she talks to the female inquisitor  until she turns her down;
