Yeah, I've run out of stuff on netflix. I'm down to watching old ladies solving murder mysteries. This is why I came out of hiding and back to drama on BSN.
According to this thread: https://twitter.com/...541713418944513 the modder was attacked in a very personal way.
That is truly unfortunate. Bullying is never OK, especially when it strikes close to home.

That reminds me, I still have season 2 of Longmire to get through.

None of that bullying is cool, I agree.
But to be fair, I remember seeing the same type of outrage when a deviantartist tried to "whitewash" Vivienne and made her white. Straight erasure. Black erasure. Mustache erasure. Don't **** with DA fans. ![]()

Not a bad show. But that's an old fart solving murders. Slightly different than old ladies. And less British.
This doesn't compute to me.. Well, not entirely. If you don't want to explore heterosexual content, then why care about hetero characters romance at all? It's part of who they are too. And same goes for other sexualities. You can't seperate it.
Also, I hate seeing Cass reduced to "content". I use that word sometimes myself, so I'm not attacking you. It's just a lame word for literature or art or films. Content is something to be consumed. She's not real, of course, but she's a dynamic character. Not some theme park ride. She needs to be seen on more realistic, personal terms. Or rather, all characters do. And as characters, you wouldn't want to change her sexuality. It's not right. When you think of her as merely content, it brings a level of detachment to it.. where it encourages using these characters for our whims. Like ingredients for some food recipe.
I do play through the game at least once, before modding. With BW, it's pretty easy because I can avoid unpleasant triggers simply by pursuing the alternates they have available.
That being said, I really, really like Cass. I like her moxie and I think she and my Quizzie will get along just fine, should I decide to pursue it. The world Bioware created is a 'jumping off' point, a 'guideline' so to speak. Their characters are there to play with. They've invited me into their sandbox and given me the go ahead to play.
How I desire to see the characters hurts no one. Not the original writer, certainly not the company I gave way too much money to and probably will again. Nor does it hurt anyone else in their games. It doesn't detract from or change their game one dot.
I understand that you feel that it's not right. For me, it's not an issue of 'right' or 'wrong'. It's simply an issue of where I want to go in my game and how I want to do it. I also don't see any reason to forbid anyone else from pursuing their game in their fashion.
I feel you seek to understand where I am coming from and I truly appreciate that, but I really don't think we have much common ground other than loving the game. I am generally quite reserved and don't post too often (more recently than anytime since I joined), so I thank-you in the discussion and in keeping me engaged in this conversation. I found it fascinating to hear a reason for disliking mods that was beyond a simple prejudice and had more to do with story mechanics.
From what I am reading, though, it seems like the line stops at intellectual property and the way the developers and/or original writer see it. And that is okay. For me that's just the beginning of the story. From there it travels wherever my imagination can take me. ![]()
What brought me away from the game long enough to play in this thread is the fact that someone was treated so poorly for sharing their dream. Now that's a shame and the solution was simple... don't like the mod, don't use the mod.
I just find it really sad when people become so hurtful of one another. One day, I hope that changes.

Well, I can't stop you. I just think there's too much entitlement in your position. Thinking your role more than it is.. simply because you bought the game. And the thing is, your role is big already. Our role, that is. We are offered a lot of customization and options with our own characters. I find it.. not sure the word.. greedy, I suppose... to want more.. To want more control over the whole world and it's inhabitants. To turn a story into a "platform" and "jumping off point".
Does it hurt me? Not at all. It doesn't really affect me. I just wish we saw the story from the same jumping off point. That we referenced the same things. That we were similar fans. Yet you want to do more and live in another imaginary land. Which makes me distance myself from you as a fan. I don't relate to you at all. You might as well be a fan of another game.

Hmm.
Accusing someone of rape over a game mod is going a bit too far. Sounds like some turned up the hyperbole to over 9000. The accusation doesn't even make sense, considering the mod rewrites Cassandra's personality. Modded Cassandra isn't saying no.
I still think the mod is in poor taste, but people could have criticized it without using personal attacks.
So who was the modders name because I hope people will stand up for her and show her we care and don't approve of bullying
Does anyone agree?
She needs a friend
I am out of likes, but I certainly agree. I tweeted to the hashtag earlier today. I hear she's reposted the mod, which must have been quite a step, I for one would probably still be in tears.

You'll never run out of that here... ![]()
Although... sometimes, the BSN can be very close to "watching old ladies solve murder mysteries".

Agreed. If anything, she needs all the support she can get.
I don't think anyone with even a shred of decency would think that something like this mod warrants any kind of personal harassment, regardless of whether or not you like the mod's content.

Yeah, as much as I find the mod itself distasteful, the apparent vitriol directed against the modder is uncalled for.
Yeah, that level of modding is basically trying to be the writer. When we clearly are not. Nor intended to be.. like in NWN/NWN2. I think they'll make an announcement if they want to give the player that power again.
We are the players/characters. Not the GMs.
You say it's not okay for someone to try to "be the writer", but changing a texture is also overriding the design decisions of the game's artists. What about mods like Skip the Fade? That overrides a design decision as well.

The overwhelming majority of people DID manage to criticize without resorting to personal attacks. Rape accusations are par for the course for this kind of content. Judging by that tweet, it wasn't even the mean comment that did it in, it was everything else. The troll comment was just the last thing to happen.
Having all of those other things happen to you I can understand getting upset about, but I still don't get why someone would complain about bad comments online. Yes, bullying is bad, but a troll saying something stupid and then leaving, never to say anything to you ever again, is hardly bullying. If they dox you or get a hold of your personal information and do something legitimately bad and damaging (like SWAT your house or where you work), then you should definitely take some steps to remove the issue.

"Hey guys I made a mod"
"You raped Cassandra as a character"
--
Is stupid and hurtful, but it's entirely devoid of meaning and doesn't make sense in ANY context. It's a hollow insult that shouldn't offend anyone due to how vague and nondescript it is. It's a non-sequitur. Ignore it or laugh at it, and go about your business. Obviously, more people exist who aren't trolls or retards and support her, so totally backing away from the internet (only having recently put the mod back up) is childish.
I don't think anyone with even a shred of decency would think that something like this mod warrants any kind of personal harassment, regardless of whether or not you like the mod's content.
Yeah i don't personally like the mod but i get really upset seeing the modder harassed like this ![]()
It's a mod people. Don't like it, don't use it! What an amazing concept!
Seriously, if somebody wants to make a mod that lets females do Cassandra's romance, great! If somebody modded Dorian's romance to work with females? Wonderful! Somebody making Isabela white? Fantastic! Make Varric as tall as a Qunari? Go for it! Make Morrigan black? Why not!? That's the beauty of mods- you can do some subtle "lore friendly" tweaking or throw in Thomas the Tank Engine. The vanilla game experience isn't going anywhere. People harassing a modder need to get a life. Nobody is forcing anyone to use a mod. Again- don't like it? Don't use it!
Yeah, as much as I find the mod itself distasteful, the apparent vitriol directed against the modders is uncalled for.
It's a lack of tact and maturity that is all too common these days. One of the reasons I stay as far away from the likes of Tumblr as humanly possible

I think Magic was making the point that DAI wasn't made to be easily edited the way NWN's was.
As for modding DAI itself, there is something about using a mod to change a character's sexuality that I and other people find uncomfortable. And I mean that for any character, not just straight ones.
It's a lack of tact and maturity that is all too common these days. One of the reasons I stay as far away from the likes of Tumblr as humanly possible
It went from a place of fan art to the mirror of 4chan
That is truly unfortunate. Bullying is never OK, especially when it strikes close to home.
She made the mod, she knew it would upset people. She should have expected this behaviour from the community. And what about the people she upset by making the mod, and some of her comments on tumblr?
My friend got upset because she likes short haircuts, and gets called 'gay' a lot, and was assaulted by people in LBGT. She was very upset by this mod. She voiced her opinion to someone, and she was instantly dismissed because 'insert its different cause your straight comment'. So my sympathy for the modder is 2%. Did the modder give any consideration to the people she would upset, by making the mod? No she didn't, she went ahead and posted it, and boasted about it.
Bullying is never okay, but she is not the innocent victim she claims she is. She can't do what she has done, and expect people not to react angrily. This is typical hypocritical SJW behaviour at it's finest.
<sigh>
So much nonsensical outrage for something completely optional...
Did I despise the "improved" Isabela mod? Oh yes. Do I find the no-mustache Dorian off-putting and a disservice to the character? Yeah. Did I think the Cassandra mod was a poorly thought out idea? Yep, and I flinched too. Oh, not because of the mod, but because I knew the modder was going to get a ration of grief for it. I didn't think that death threats would get involved, but the only reason why I went to Tumblr at all is closed (DG's blog) so I only have second-hand information about how bad it is.
Have I really ever cared enough to write an angry tweet or message those people? No and why should I? I never used the Equal Love mod (ironic that this is okay and "straight-erasure" isn't,) but I have buddies of mine of the forums that have and enjoyed it. I would never use Cassandra's mod, but principle has nothing to do with it. The animation and dialogue were meant for a man and I know that it got awkward with the mod, at least according to the modders description. I'm sure some folks will enjoy it despite the issues, so more power to them. ![]()
So I'll treat it like I have with any other mod I didn't care for: Ignoring it.
As I've said in other threads, I pick my battles. This is another one not worth fighting. Does someone using this mod change my game? No, so why should I care? I'm more worried about the exploding outrage from certain other groups if my hunch is correct and Maevaris is a companion in the next game. I have other fish to fry.
