No, she wasn't. I was there for that discussion, and nothing even remotely of the sort was said.

Actually, there was one comment to that effect. It was not directed at her, specifically, and it may have been deleted along with the modmaker's first post, but I will acknowledge that it happened.

Which doesn't change the fact that the discussion was pretty civil, and was not an attack against the person who made the mod.

Until you stumble on that 1%. I rather to be on the cautious side, so it's a matter of willingness to take the risk and whenever you deem it's worth it, as with any things in life. In this particular case it is not worth it to me, it might be worth to you and that's fine.

and since this person put the mod back up, they clearly think the risk is worth it/realized it was silly to be intimidated by faceless screen names

Well, she insulted people in both the straight and LBGT community with this mod. She provoked them, so she is just as responsible for what happened as the 'rape commenter' is. She also said upsetting things to the straight community on tumblr, and that is also a form of bullying.

Did she harass people sending them messages to their personal blogs and other pages? Did she call them names and said they're rapists?

If the answers are "no" then there's no excuse to treat her in such manner for perceived "insult". You are responsible for your own behaviour; "she made me do it" is nothing but a pathetic excuse straight from abuser's book, someone who can't even own up to their own shortcomings. And that you have the gall to suggest the victim here is the one who is doing the 'bullying', not the group who harassed her for perceived slight... that takes the **** cake.

You might want to word your arguments better, i have no interest arguing about whenever I'm a dull person or not and whenever sharks and turtles have any relevance in my not wanting to actively put myself in a risky situations.

My arguments have been worded fine.

I mean, disregarding that I never posted an argument directed towards you to begin with, the arguments I've posted in here have been fairly sound.

I don't think anyone called you dull, and my turtle/sharks comparison was exactly that. A comparison. You explicitly said:

Perhaps, but the possibility of even 1% of it not being just words is enough for me at least to not take that bet.

99% odds in opposition to whatever the risk is, are very, VERY good odds to have. Not to mention that something like odds cannot be taken in a vacuum. You can take steps to reduce the chance from 1% to 0.00001%. If you're afraid of getting shot up somewhere (even when the risk of danger is so comically tiny it may as well not exist), then I recommend you not go literally anywhere. Don't even stay in your house, because home invasions are a thing (grossly uncommon and unlikely to happen to the average person at all in their lifetime, but they are a thing). Literally everything you do involves some kind of risk, but I'm still willing to bet that you have some kind of daily routine.

Depends where you go on 4chan, the cosplay board is usually OK, the Mass Effect General thread was OK but really really boring, just people posting pictures of their waifus, griping about Garrus not being a love interest for male Shepard and being obsessed with some girl called Claire Chan.

The /b/ board is the one that's full of trolls of the boards that I'm most familiar with

4chan is a place full of loving individuals no matter were you go.

Don't worry! You can go to any board and be safe!

I went back 25 pages to that discussion to find it, and nothing was there. If it existed at one point, it was deleted.

I meant beyond the obvious, BP.

Like why there's a debate about Cassandra having this mod while not so for Solas apparently?

There is a mod for Solas though

I'm afraid it's been a long time ago since I interacted with "The Bro Army" so I don't have any delicious stories.

I do remember watching a guy playing through Amnesia and the first upvoted comment ont the video was something along the lines of

"Pewdiepie has played this game first so you can't play this game, disliked!"

Mind you this is the fandom that belongs to the most popular person on youtube

See pictures

Spoiler

LOL that kid looks like his balls haven't even dropped yet, more like "I will find you and I'll get my ass kicked when I try something"

Did she? I'm not familiar with the person and what her experience with modding community was prior that and I rather not to jump to conclusions. I kind of doubt she even thought to ask herself and if she did she clearly misjudged her willingness to deal with consequences. Should we blame people for their own naivety? Maybe? Is it worth it or has any meaning besides our own ego-stroking? Nope. Should someone do it anyway? Whatever.

What I expressed initially was that I understand the implications a verbal threat can posses (in general) which led to:

Perhaps, but the possibility of even 1% of it not being just words is enough for me at least to not take that bet.

your very first sentence to this was:

You must not do much of anything then.

Again,  you are talking to yourself. I did not suggest that one can avoid all risks. What I said was that I see why someone would be worry about threats and that I understand why someone would want to minimize their exposure to it and that's about it.

Good riddance to this mod... although I'm sure another will just pop up. And others for Dorian/Sera too unfortunately.

Too bad for you that it's already been reuploaded by several people (including the mod creator on another site)

4Chan is strange, you might also run across a thread where they track down pedophiles, or put together a massive donation to a charity for female game devs

or a green text about finding dead bodies, it's really hit or miss

also the actuality of any greentext story is suspect at best

That's the heart of the problem. They're besmirching the fandom with their abusive attitude. 2 good examples are the assault on the modder, described in this thread and the assault on Greg Ellis on twitter.

Greg Ellis was responsible for getting someone harassed by his fans. He posted her details on told his followers 'to smother her with kindness' which resulted in her getting sent death threats and people calling her at her place of work to harass her. Most of the criticism which was directed Greg's way happened after he did this.

He was unable to take any criticism at all and blocked people who literally said 'hey Greg this isn't cool' and also blocked people who just favourited the replies of people who criticised him.

They are also known for naming whales and saving suicidal people.

That's giving the developers a rather silly amount of credit and denying rightful credit to hard working modders.

You speak as if, when you a become an employee of a game development company, the light of heaven shines down on you. Your work is now Capital-A Art. But if you're a modder? Your work is nothing but consumerist drivel, feeding your own selfish fancies.

That's just entirely untrue. Developers have the same skills many modders do and make the same mistakes many modders do.

There are parts of every game that aren't given great attention. There are characters modeled in a hurry and used multiple times. There are systems built sloppily, bugs left unfixed, mechanics that don't work or work poorly. Modders often do a better job, and they deserve credit for it.

Have you ever built a mod? I have. It's not easy.

Some modders go on to become developers. One of the people working on the next Mass Effect who came out in support of the creator of this mod has stated he has modded games himself in the past

So basically Tumblr and 4chan are mirrors of each other :P

In some cases it's actually true.

Remember some guy murdered a woman and posted pictures of her after he killed her on b.

Eh, change sexuality all you want, but touch Dorians fabulous 'stache.........beware the sacrilege!

I've seen a photoshop with Dorian's 'tache removed, it's hilarious because it makes it look like Dorian grew it to appear older than he actually is, he looks a lot younger without it

Is certainly weird, seeing 1 part thats strongly in favour of females in gaming & another with a highly supported "gays & chicks are poisoning the gaming industry" thread, which is the 1 i saw & why they apparently hated DA:I, on the same site

I think it is still safe to assume to most people on 4Chan, even /b/ aren't actually murderers

iirc he was located in part due to people being disgusted at what he did, but I am a little fuzzy on it

I'm sure that's exactly what Greg Ellis intended to happen. I know my first thought when I hear "smother her/him with kindness" is "threat them with death!" and harassment.

jumping jesus on a pogo stick, wtf is wrong with people.
