What is this I'm hearing about people giving a modder crap for making a Cassandra female romance mod?

And that is why some of us are bothered by said mod.

Fictional characters have no rights. I bought the game, therefore I own the game and what's on the disc. I own. The characters on my copy. Therefore I can alter them in anyway I deem fit. Like I buy a book. I bought a book but I don't like a certain part of the story. I'll write over that part with something I deem appropriate.

Is it wrong that I got to the "My dear" and immediately it switched to Vivienne's voice in my head?

No, my dear.

Actually, you really need to read the EULA. ;)

So long as I don't make money from Their IP. Then there is no issue. When I buy a game I am not renting it. I bought it. Therefore I own it.

this mod gets a big dislike. whats next ? to use a mod to remove all gay romance options ? or to use one to remove all heterosexual romances ???

On topic for this thread.  I see both sides.

On one hand, I don't think it matters what other people do in their games.  Someone wants to mod their game away?  Not really a big deal on my end.  Go to town because it doesn't change the canon for those characters after all.

On the other hand, I do cringe a bit at 'make the gay person straight' and 'make the brown person white' mods.  I know that it's just a game, but the player doesn't live in the game world, they live in the real world where that line of thinking brings some pretty crappy feelings along with it.

For most games these days you don't actually own the software. You own a licence that let's you use said software.

But legalese is incidental to the topic of this thread.

I don't care what you do in your game, but I'll silently judge you if you change characters to suit your needs.

Morrigan/Sten/Leliana to be more like the cinematic, making Isabela white, "beautifying" Aveline, changing their sexuality etc etc. All gross.

Bullying the modder is beyond juvenile. There are far worse things in this world and I doubt these kind of people waste a minute a month on them. Pathetic

Man.  With more years behind me than ahead of me it scares me to say people will never cease to amaze me.  Mostly, that is not a good thing.

This all works just like my TV does.  If I don't like it, I don't down load it.  Same as changing the channel on my TV or shutting the thing off.  I don't have to berate, belittle, judge or threaten.  It doesn't affect me in the slightest.  I have the ability to move right on by it without getting my knickers in a knot over it.

I thought we'd all grown up some since the days of Elder Scrolls and the frequent sh*tstorms that ensued because of some content a modder designed and shared that offended some other persons sensibilities.  Never mind that a download wasn't required, forced or considered cannon.

I guess there will always be some asshat that has to be offended or upset about something.  If they don't run across it they will surely seek it out!

I would hardly call it talent when the game acknowledges your character as male during the entire thing, and your Inquisitor is entirely silent.

Here's the thing... Cassandra isn't real. There is no morality issue with this.

It's just a gamer's wish to romance her character with a little self-insert, that's it.

You know what? I'm done with being PC. It's a noble intention, but it's become perverted in it's nature over the years, thanks to the dumbassary of people. Because people's priorities have become so messed up and selfish, that it's no longer about trying to keep the love. It's about going on witch hunts, and bullying the next person they can find. I've seen "SJWs" get turned on by their own kind so easily and quickly, because they made a comment that others didn't like. We've seen Bioware themselves, people who champion diversity in their games, get turned on by the same people they work hard to make happy.

I'm not out to offend anybody, and nobody should. But we as a society need to stop enabling these Social Justice Bullies, by constantly apologizing to them until they've been satisfied enough to think they've "won" or something.

I agree completely.

I experienced this online on fb from a person I went to high school with. He took offense to something I wrote, (I was talking about how much of a douche Perez Hilton is), and I apologized for the offense. And then I regretted it, because it made me feel brow-beaten. Its like he purposely misconstrued something I said just to have something to be angry about.

I took him off my friends list without a word, and to this day I regret being as gracious as I was to him, because I feel like he used me in order to vent his feelings of societal anger. I was someone that never treated him with disrespect in real life or otherwise.

Modding is modding. Looks, clothing, sexuality, background, its all changing things from the original game, and its all the same as far as I'm concerned.

And someone brought up fanfic and its so true, what's the difference? Do people who write slash/fanfic get this amount of grief over what they write about?

I usually just try & ignore mods like that, it does annoy me tho when its described as "fixed" or "improved" when a characters sexuality or race is changed, the Isabela mod was especially bad with that

Here's my question:

If they were instead modding Dorian to be straight, would you all be so quick to defend it?

Honestly? Yeah, I probably would. It doesnt really matter. Its for a single player game, so it doesnt affect anyone. Also, this doesnt change the canon

I've seen people use that to justify why it's ok to make Cassandra bi but not Dorian and Sera

It doesn't matter because clearly if you're modding a character's sexuality you don't really care about integrity of the canon.

Plot hasn't stopped people from making a 'Solas for all' mod.
