What is this I'm hearing about people giving a modder crap for making a Cassandra female romance mod?

I wonder if it'd be better sampling only a specific age range. Both non-gay and gay alike we'll have grown up a bit by 30 to know themselves... more or less. Except in some cases. You'd probably get a more accurate figure this way than sampling highschool kids, for sure. Who are either living in fear or just simply haven't figured themselves out yet.

They did. They have figures for specific age ranges. 45 to 64 and 65+. The percentages of straight people very significantly increase.

I think it's mostly that not all parts of the US are as tolerant as others.

Isn't just the US who can have incredibly nasty anti-gay people, i know a family friend here in the UK who suffered terrible abuse for coming out as a lesbian, i also remember a guy who was like my uncle as a child who was openly gay & who to my knowledge got murdered after contracting H.I.V by homophobes who thought his mere presence was dangerous to "normal" people, so was really bad here too :?

Ouch.  I can't speak for other counties.  I just know tolerance varies from state to state and county to county in the States.  It was only last year my state got its gay-marriage ban overturned.

And there I go continuing this off-topic tangent.

To start, the irony of using a mod to change a companion's sexuality, when a major in-game plot point for another companion is that their father tried to change their sexuality.

Which is why it is called a mod. It is a modifications to the game. And this particular mod has nothing to do with the other character but even if it did, so what. It is a mod.

Mods can still be ironic.

I think you're just expecting people to think like you... which is going to go nowhere.

You don't see it as a matter of respect... or *gasp* sanctity, if you will. Fair enough. I think that's the issue here though. That some would rather take the story seriously. While others just see it as a game and "platform". The latter doesn't really see a story.. but views everything as a jumping off point.

So? They can also be sad, pornographic, pathetic and crash your game regularly. The implication is that mod maker will need to start conforming to player demand.

Or perhaps, tempest in teapot, mod makers should make what they want and players can choose to play them or not.

Modders can make what they want.

And like with any other creator, their works are open to criticism.

I don't think they should necessarily stop or conform to anything... unless bioware wants them to. I'm not anybody, anymore more than other players (or mod makers). I don't have any power to do that. Which is kind of my point. We are nothing. And I wish that point sinks in. That we shouldn't assume more power or control than what we really have. We are here to be entertained by the end product.

As for the thread in general, it's more about discussing the implications of issues to me. And probably a lot of people here... I think.

I in fact do, but don't care to have others insist that I have to, nor do I feel the need to be told that because a mod can be iconic that I should shut up and not call that kind of reasoning what its.

Well, fwiw, I don't want you to shut up. I like the exchange in this thread. For the most part.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm a little confused.  Forgive me, but, did I miss something over the last day or so?  I mean, this mod is interesting and has been worth a civil conversation, but iconic seems like a very strong word.  I don't argue that some mods achieve that status (the Dance mod and the Equal Love mod come to mind) but has the Cassandra mod really hit that point?  Or are you just talking some mods in general?  Just making sure I didn't lose the context of this conversation.

I don't think DAI -- and DAI on PC specifically - is important enough for any of it to be iconic.

I could be wrong though.

I could be wrong, but I think Corvus meant to say Ironic instead of Iconic.

I don't think her mod is, but that is my opinion. I was responding to TheJediSaint statement that, "Mods can be Ironic".

I don't know if it's fair to accuse someone of being disrespectful and then immediately *gasp* patronizingly.

I also don't understand why it is disrespectful to explore potential what-if scenarios.

The gasp is more of a joke about myself using the word "sanctity". It's too serious a word, even for myself.

As for disrespect, I do believe it is. When people reduce the creators to one of their peers, it's disrespect. I believe artists have power. It's a deep belief. That isn't to say all modders are doing that.. not at all. I'm addressing a specific mindset. People who assume creative power and control, simply for buying a game.
