What is this I'm hearing about people giving a modder crap for making a Cassandra female romance mod?

I'm not being a smartass, but why is it awesome? ![]()
I think it's OK if you want to explore some content, without changing a character.. but awesome? Just on a gaming level, it has little production value. Second, it might do wonky things to Keep upload data.
I won't get into other issues.. seems like beating a dead horse at this point.

It's not for me, but overall I agree that the overreaction is unmerited. As I stated earlier, I do have my own reasons for not supporting the mod. Some folks have lost their minds over this, which I can't understand. I draw the line at personally attacking the modder, especially when she really meant no harm. It's not like she was calling it the Improved Cassandra mod or anything (one mod that uses that title actually does offend me a bit, but I ignore its existence as much as possible.)
Besides, it's not like BioWare is going to suddenly change their canon for Cassandra over a mod, so I'm not going to sweat it.

At this point, i'd rather it was all just removed, for sanity purposes..
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, too, atm.. A good love story can enhance almost any story, but the topic has become too dominant and intrudes on the story now. Those types who obsess over this are better served with other games anyway.

That's how I feel about it. The romance generally compliments how I approach the main story. I liked Cass with my Circle mage. Gave a little extra for me to explore about Chantry/mage issues in a way. Something the game needed. While in ME, I liked Jack and my Earthborn Shep. Both kind of screwups who changed for the better. Kotor and Bastila, Anders in DA2.. all work great for main storyline.

I even once saw someone make a paragraph on why it's fine to mod Cassandra and others but completely wrong to do it to Dorian and Sera. They even used Dorian's personal quest as an example
There's even a Black Sera mod, and I heard people praising it because "that's how she should be canonically" because there was an old concept of her with darker skin
Black Sera?? Oy Vey! smh
I actually think modding Dorian straight is weird because of his personal quest.
I can't imagine any female standing there while he tells you that being with a woman is a person he wouldn't like and so on with this on the brain:

But to each her own on that one. ![]()
I personally don't mind Cass or Sera being romanced modded but I do understand it when others say they have a problem with it, and I don't think they should just be dismissed.

I think it's far cooler that people of all persuasions want to play Dorian's romance as intended, instead of modifying it. I remember one of Gaider's last blog was how surprised he was at that.. that even straight guys wrote and praised him about it.

Being tough has nothing to do with that.
I think we went over this earlier. Even my own mom falls in this category...and is sort of the "man of the house" rather than my dad. She even has a bullet scar on her neck.
But she's straight. People aren't easily categorized.

As for character mods in general, I think I should clarify my earlier position:
Personally, I don't use them because *I* feel like I'm damaging the characters' integrity. However, I will nonetheless defend people who mod their games and those who make those mods from others who would prevent them. Why? Because it's Not Their Business ! Why the heck do they even care? I hate intolerance and attempts to limit others' freedom just for the sake of others who profess to be "offended". I claim the right to free expression and action as long as it doesn't harm anyone, regardless of how much it offends others. Also, as one of my favorite DA2 quotes goes, some people try very hard to be offended.

'Does not have a traditionally feminine occupation' does not mean butch or lesbian.

Just wanted to say, I wouldn't touch this mod with a barge pole. Like I said this whole thing has been attention for it.
I respect modders, and the freedom that they give, but this kind of advertising will always be a no no for me.
Still, bandwagons are important.

So, yeah, I may say "I hate XXX" here and there if I don't like something. But I'd never say XXX shouldn't exist as long as doesn't do any harm.
I wouldn't try stopping people either. It's not my place. I just wouldn't mourn if some higher authority stepped in and ended it.
That said, if I have any reason to care what others do, it's only because they're objectifying a character I might like. Turning them into some tool for their own purposes. When it was intended to be enjoyed with more sincerity than that.

I just had a convo with someone earlier who stated that relationships between two men is disturbing because men lack the basic traits women have such as caring and nurturing. How ironic that it was coming from a straight male. lol!!

Sounds like somebody who needs to go outside more. People come in all forms.
I don't know how caring and nurturing I am personally (umm.. I love my pets at least
), but my dad was always that for me. My mom was rough around the edges. Sometimes it's just upbringing, I think. My dad was raised by his mom (my grandma), while my mom grew up overseas, with big brothers, in a rough country environment. It makes sense to me why she turned out the way she did.

How is Cassandra butch? Because she wears armor that was designed to provide protection rather than emphasize her curves?
This is like criticizing women for wearing sports bras because it smushes their boobs.

To be fair, Femsheps looking for love in ME2 had Garrus as an alternative.
F!Bhalspawns were stuck with Anomen.
So homosexuality is a no go but beastiality is aok? Lol.

No what you own is a license to use the content on the disk as the creators intended.
This hasn't been definitively determined. Especially as the player has never signed any contract stating that this was the limit of the player's property rights. What you don't have is the right to distribute the content of the disk. That is completely differentiable from modifying files on your own computer and giving other people the tools to modify their own files.

Also, why is anyone offended by the backlash?
You can bet your ass a bunch of SJW's and pro LGBT people would flip **** if someone tried to do the same thing to a character and make them straight in a mod. A bunch of god damn hypocrites.
This is just BS, its manufactured rubbish to use as an excuse to hate on separate social issues.
Gay men wouldn't care one bit if you made a mod so that anyone could romance Dorian. They'd care if BioWare patched Dorian into a straight or bi romance option. But the gay community doesn't care if people MOD games to get romance options. They have done the same themselves with Alistair and Kaiden in Me1.
This is just people looking to create an issue so they can do this "See how hypercritical X is!" The fact is some straight men are so insecure about themselves they think asking that games be representative means SJW are out of control. So they look for hypocrisy where there is none and blame the LGBT community. As a man I am not afraid of SJWs taking my games away because that isn't what they are doing or asking for. I have no problem with Anders hitting on me because I am 100% secure in my sexuality so a gay man wanting to get in my pants doesn't turn me on and make me hate myself for being turned on nor does it make me worried that someone might think I am gay. I could care less who questions my sexuality. Why? because I don't question my sexuality. So people asking me out that are the same sex be they digital or real doesn't scare me. It just makes me say, "sorry I'm straight" and then forget about it. Seeing gay, lesbian, or transgendered characters doesn't make me think SJW are out of control, It simply makes games look like the world I live in. Not everyone I am friends with is straight so seeing this kind of thing in a game doesn't make me roll my eyes. Its a non-issue for me.
Stop blaming SJW or the LBGT for things they are not responsible for. I know there was more than one post on the Dorian thread after it was announced that he was Gay of telling female fans who wanted to play a female inquisitor that they could always use a mod. Funny how the LBGT community was suggesting modding Dorian as a solution, no up roar over it at all. Granted in HINDSIGHT it would kind of break his companion quest but who the frak cares? its a fan mod and the LBGT community is not as rabid or foaming at the mouth as so many of their critics claim.

That's not an example at all. They obviously intended to distribute it.
So no, I really don't think it is debated.
But what were they distributing? The mod might not have contained any DA:I files, it might have only contained instructions for changing them. That would mean that there was nothing which could be challenged. And even if the mod being distributed did contain some DA:I files, that still might have been fine to distribute depending on how those files were being used. Since the essence of a mod that alters a game is the alteration and not whatever source code it happens to contain in addition, then distributing the mod might not be violating the copyright.
